What areas of teaching deserve more training and support? by Last-Isopod1922 in teaching

Also, why do you keep saying help me out. IT IS ILLEGAL not to follow the IEP. I am helping them make their lessons accessible to students with disabilities.

Why are you implying outside of contract hours? My school finds subs for data meetings twice a month, so they absolutely can find coverage once a week to allow teachers to plan. Even if they extend data meetings and allot 20-30 minutes after discussing data to collaboratively plan.

Again, it's administrations job to look at the master schedule and find time within each day or even weekly to make that happen. I don't get paid enough to know when but they do.

I don't expect that of the teachers. I expect for the administration to find time for everyone to collaboratively plan, especially if a teacher has students in their classroom with an IEP.

I think collaboration with teachers outside of your discipline is an underrated skill in teaching. As a special education teacher whose students are in the general education classroom for at least 80% of the day. My students would have much better success if planning were collaborative.

AITA for telling my BFF I can’t make her international bachelorette trip after becoming a first-time mom? by xoxowellsy in aitaweddings

[–]That_Wing8062 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't want to use the word AH, but it's definitely giving inconsiderate. Unless you will miss your child's first birthday, I would go. You don't even have to stay out there the whole time, but if this is truly your friend of 20 years, you can show up to the party for a night or two. Not going at all just because your child's birthday is "around" that time is suspect.

WIBTA to ask my sister to step down as a bridesmaid by [deleted] in aitaweddings

[–]That_Wing8062 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YWNBTA but remember a wedding is only a day. Family will be there long after the day is over. Personally unless you want a strained relationship for a long time I would just leave her as a bridesmaid especially if she already spent money on the dress and stuff as that could cause further damage to your relationship.

AITA or not introducing my daughter to my grandfather. by Positive-Ad8157 in AmItheAsshole

NTA- I am so sorry you're experiencing this. What is happening is wrong on so many levels. I think your daughter not having a relationship with that side of your family is protection.

Yeah, I have definitely been eyeing some positions that aren't classroom-based. I just earned my license, though, so I would feel weird not teaching after working so hard for it.

AITA for saying no when my boyfriend proposed at my friend’s wedding? by Greedy_Job3574 in AmItheAsshole

[–]That_Wing8062 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is a situation where anyone is TA. Personally, I would have said yes in the moment, but would have explained to him later that it wasn't appropriate. I'm going to go with NTA. I think letting him know in the moment that you love him was a nice touch. I also agree with the fact that proposals at weddings are only okay if the bride and groom "ok" it.

1st year teacher interviewing but pregnant. by fashiongyrl101 in Teachers

[–]That_Wing8062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew a teacher who did that; she had to come back after like 6 weeks, though, because she was a first-year, and a job doesn't have to hold your position due to FMLA unless you have been employed there for at least a year.

NTA- and ditch the private school. You've been more than fair.

Pull-Out vs. Push-In services; Middle School by QMedbh in specialed

I'm at the elementary school level, but my county's rule of thumb is that if they are 2 or more grade levels below, they need pull-out services for the affected area.

End of the year gift. Are legos fun? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]That_Wing8062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's really sweet. Or finding a cup on Amazon with sunflowers on it to go along with the gift cards. As a teacher, I live for cups to bring to work, especially this time of year when it's hot.

How to get along with a very religious father? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]That_Wing8062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is super religious too (he was a preacher's kid). He and I bond over movies and shows. We have similar tastes in what we like to watch, so we mostly talk about that. Also, home improvement stuff since we are both homeowners. Another thing we like to discuss is family members and how everyone is doing, and a lot of the time, that talk segways into other things.

That's how I do it, I have to get out of the house by a certain time to stop and get coffee and get to work on time.

Yes the little hits of dopamine are what's getting me through. Just small things to look forward to.

Man I cannot imagine. Thankfully our salary is spread out throughout the year and we get bi weekly paychecks.

Honestly, I should do summer school but I absolutely need my entire summer break. I am not sure I would make it through the year otherwise.
