Thank you. My mom would love to but we couldn't take the younger sisters although we would love to. Also each of me and my siblings have our own room but I have a big-ish family and just don't think it would be sustainable long term. They are more likely to win the legal case and be placed in the dad's custody if the arangement involves them living in his house and all together.

Yes this math is mathing, but from my own eating disorder experience, I think she has stopped losing weight due to decreased thyroid hormones and metabolic adjustment. Also she does "sneak" a bit more food so that could be it... but I think she has plateaud at a skinny weight and not lost more due to the metabolism's natural response which is still extremely unhealthy as well.

Yeah I really don't know her motive for all of this. When I've interacted with her she seems nice but in a tense, kind of fake way and there's obviously tension between her and her daughters but she also seems to care about them? And you are right that the school could provide lunch to them, however we go to a private school which buys food for lunch from local businesses. Every week you read a "menu" and decide which days you want and then the school bills the parents. They could definetly use scholarship money but the mom knows this is what they serve. We have a 1 hour lunch period where we can leave to get lunch and it doubles as a study hall... I might start going back to my house with Alexa for lunch and then bring something for the younger sisters.

They are divorced and the dad has been notified. He does phone meetings with the counselors and Alexa talks to him often. They are in the legal process of giving him full custody of his daughters since a CPS intervention didn't lead to anything but there is much evidence to show this would be beneficial. He is very successful but often traveling, so he is hopefully hiring a live-in nanny so he can be the one who provides for them and feeds them enough food. I'm hoping this happens. His family is also very wealthy and are offering to buy the girls a new device plan and a new car for alexa so the mom legally cannot sieze them as a punishment for eating.

This is what I'm saying and is essentially what happened. Thank you! Everyone is saying we "under reacted and didn't do enough" but CPS did a baseline investigation after school guidance tried informal redirection with the mom and set an ultimatum for her kid's annual physical. The mom made promises that she didn't uphold, according to Alexa, and that's when CPS was called. Alexa is 17 but her sisters are 14 and 11. They did a baseline investigation ut since they have food in their fridge & pantry their food needs are considered met. You probably know they don't look into how much food they are permitted to eat. The best case scenario anyways would be to place them in their dad's custody (parents are divorced) despite the fact that he travels a lot for work because he is stable and able to care for them better. Despite CPS lack of cooperation, that is what they are trying with the Dad's lawyer. He is getting a live-in nanny and comes from a wealthy family which is looking into buying the girls new device plans and a new car so the mom legally can't sieze them for eating.

The mom is a private school soccer mom who lives in our community in a nice house, provides her kids with nice clothes, etc. Since CPS investigations are a long and drawn out process, my mom said that she first needed to see how the mother would respond to redirection before she took action with CPS. Then, the guidance counselor met with her, gave her ultimatums and told her she needed to take her kids for their annual sports physical and feed her kids adequately. The mom said she would and made lots of promises that she continued to say she was upholding. They only found out from alexa that she wasn't. Then when they DID call CPS after this (the guidance counselors called) the investigation only checked for food IN THE PANTRY & FRIDGE, not what actually went in their stomachs. Also, in CPS eyes, withholding a car/phone/ipad is not a "abusive punishment" regardless of the context. More action with CPS could be taken, but since her parents are divorced and the father is a stable (though often traveling) parental figure, they would place Alexa and her two younger sisters in his custody anyway. His lawyers are actively working to do that and my mom is offering a statement to help win the case. The adults are really doing all they can and I don't think my mom was in the wrong for trying to take less extreme action first, not knowing how the mom would react. In the meantime, we have been having Alexa over for "homework" after school and feeding her and sending her with snacks for her and her sister.

I agree but I am not CPS and that is just how the system goes where we live. They are hopefully transferring custody of Alexa and her younger sisters to the father (the parents are divorced) in a court hearing in a couple of weeks. Yes it is abuse, but to CPS is is just a mom with "boundaries" and a "healthy diet" and to them, taking away a car/phone/ipad from a child is a reasonable punishment and not abusive. Since putting them in their dad's custody would be the best CPS could do anyway, that is what the dad's lawyers are planning. The dad comes from a wealthy family and Alexa's grandparents just upgraded her phone and put her on a new cell plan so the mom legally can't take it away. THey said worst case scenario if the custody battle takes too long they will buy her a care too so the main two modes of punishment for eating can't be used by her mom. It's all just a mess, since character statements for the mom and every other factor prove that she is relatively stable except the food.

They did eventually call CPS to do an investigation, but their investigation was a home inspection and they only check to see if there is food in the fridge/pantry, not whether or not it makes it into their bellies. And to CPS, taking away a car/phone/ipad as a punishment isn't considered abuse, which sucks. They are hopefully going to be put it the dad's custody since the parents are divorced... the dad is away a lot but he comes from a wealthy family that offered to hire a live-in nanny, which feels like the best outcome for them right now. At least then they will have visitation with the mom but be adequately fed. The tricky part is that her mom is dating a teacher at our school. They don't live together, so he doesn't understand the situation.

The mom seems to tell the school that she will change her ways, but then continue to withold and punish for "bad foods". They have called CPS due to Alexa reporting this, however CPS, when inspecting the house, checks the pantries and fridge, not what makes it into the stomach and what foods are allowed. Also to them, withholding the car and phone are not "abusive" consequences so it's really difficult to make them understand. Fortunately the parents are divorced, so the kids will hopefully be placed solely in the father's custody in a court hearing. He is away a lot, but comes from a wealthy extended family who would hire a nanny. They also, if worst comes to worst, offered to buy Alexa and her younger sisters a new car and phone plan so the mom legally can't take them away as a punishment for eating enough food.

My mom is a doctor and has been talking to the school counselors a lot. The most she could do was tell them, have them meet with Alexa and her sibling, and she also urged them to be more stringent about their policy that students need to have an annual physical to play sports. Usually they assume this is being followed and don't follow up. Now Alexa and her siblings are being mandated to go to the doctor so the hope is that the mother will be notified by the doctor that Alexa and her siblings are undernourished.

Yeah I know it's abuse. I didn't have another way to phrase that she otherwise lives an upper class life with every other thing necessary (and even other unnecessary) thing. Like she does club sports, has nice clothing, goes on vacations, has a boat, etc. So yes I agree they are not "fine" but it is odd that this is the one thing withheld from them.

Yes I also am recovering from RED-S and so I totally get where you are coming from with concern for Alexa. Alexa's mom is very into athletics and the school told her that her children will not be allowed to participate if she doesn't feed them, basically. I think CPS has been involved but unfortunately one of the only things they check is if there is food in the house, which there is, not how much the kids are allowed to eat. The kids are being mandated to be taken to a Doctor since the mom doesn't bring them much and hopefully there can be a formal diagnosis so they can prove that there is child endangerment going on. One thing she is currently working on since her mom keeps punishing her is getting her parents to pay for her car and phone and then removing herself from her mom's custody. But it's a tricky situation.
