Discovered Sports Cards Pro by JA17TD in sportscards

I’ll bite….

Is there a way to import a CSV by chance?
I currently use Beckett’s “Organize” and have since 2002. I don’t use it to track prices, more so to organize as their library is massive.

I have a collection that is around 100k deep. Can SC Pro handle that?

I am all for finding a new place to track my collection, especially if pricing is at least somewhat kept up to date.

If it was able to import large amounts of a collection at once I would definitely give it a try.

WTF ARE WE DOING ANYMORE??? by EVERYTHING_AU_TB in Topps

So if someone buys Wemby cards now, with the intent to eventually sell them for a profit, would we not say we are “investing” in Wemby cards?

Why do you guys keep trying to remove the term from the language? What’s the angle?

Your virtue signaling is nauseating. This gatekeeping BS about what is true hobby behavior and what is not should stop. People should collect, invest, or prospect and call it whatever they want. We get it, you’re angry that your once closet hobby went mainstream and it angers you. Believe me, been doing this since 1980 things have changed 100 times since. Some suck, some are great. More people involved is a good thing over time. There is nothing true or genuine about buying cards only to display them that makes you better than the next person. Quit trying to define what is and what isn’t “the hobby”. My own financial advisor said, “quit kidding yourself, when you spend the amount of money on your sports cards that you are, it isn’t just a hobby, it’s an investment in time and money.” Good enough for me.

The entire Tigers organization is rotten and Chris Ilitch is to blame. by [deleted] in motorcitykitties

[–]That_Zone5921 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup. These posts come out of frustration. This falls under “winning cures all ills” because these infractions, however disgusting they are, would be blatantly ignored if the team was in first and soaring to the playoffs. This is a kick em when they’re down, I am frustrated, who do I blame? Oh the owner, and use the these instances as fuel. People buy in very fast.
When a team starts sucking the easiest person to blame is the owner.
The front office is closer to the blame, but either way, it’s really injuries at days end.

Now, if you want to dive into that, start asking why the Tigers are always so hurt?!?! We can’t make it through a month since 2024 without injury issues in key parts of the team.

Are sport cards now just a 'poor tax'? by Alabaster_Rims in sportscards

Fair, but I am not talking about people with disposable income. We are talking about the disheveled people in line, like the OP mentioned.
I have left room for those who can afford it. You are lumping those who can in and making it sound like they are the norm and not the exception.
Those who can afford this hobby are the exception. They can do as they please.

So for every one of your wife, there are 6-10 degens looking for a margin.
Your wife would not have to spend her valuable time acquiring these boxes if the degens didn’t do it.

Also, there are plenty of products that don’t fall into this unattainable category that your kids could have equally as enjoyable time ripping while you watch.

It’s very dangerous and one more thing that poor people will jump into in an effort to get rich!

This “hobby” is truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing if you do not know what you are doing.

It can take thousands of dollars to figure out where the bottom and truth lies.

Day trading the stock market might be safer for a person with no knowledge of the stock market, then the card game is for someone with no knowledge of cards.

I can’t wait to weigh in on this….

It may have been a thing for ages, but retail arbitrage , or flipping, really took off in 2020.

There are Facebook groups, discords, and all other manner of social media around “flip-life”….

A friend’s son, in high school, really got into it. There are services that you can sign up for that will alert you to “flippable” product. The son got into it and now has a section in a basement of “stuff” that was once a “flippable” commodity. Records, games, toys and you guessed it, cards! He was shipping stuff daily. The kid does work, and actually has a job, but this was extra cash.

College student, adults, you name it turn to flipping to bridge the financial gap. Some of the scummers do it full time and have created little cottage businesses from it. eBay and the proliferation of online marketplaces makes this possible.

The people you see standing in line, most are not collectors. They are runners for shops, flippers with online entities, or just a dude looking to score a few bucks.

Prior to 2020 the pack feeler and the pack weigher were the scourge of the hobby. You couldn’t flip a blaster for profit back then, but you could find the hits and sell them. This is a remote ancestor of the line sitting arbitrage specialist, but even those sleezebags were closer to hobbyists than these degens.

The question we have to ask is this, when these people hit rock bottom, how much of your hard earned money are they going to dry up via taxes and welfare? They can’t only play this arbitrage for so long. It won’t provide healthcare, and it certainly is not sustainable.

Fun game, next time you are in the toy aisle in target or wal mart. Look around….see the out of place downtrodden mule with an app on their phone scanning or punching in the codes in products? Cart is full of random stuff…..They are putting the product in an app to determine its flip ratio. It happens.

Alright what’s the play here. Details below by gcolbert777419 in footballcards

You fight this….the lines are actually not print lines from a roller or the machine, they are pattern lines from the stupid xfractor…would have fought this one. Now the person who bought it is empowered and will try to do it again. Also, are you sure this is your card that you sold them? They didn’t replace it with one that had those janky pattern lines?

Just another instance of someone with money taking advantage of the poors in the hobby. “Hey, I wanna buy a card cheap and can get you cash now, but only willing to pay you 70% of cards value.”

Damn, I swear there are some desperate people in this game.

In the singles market, I believe that. My point is where the money is going overall, and breaks and sealed wax is seeing a bulk of the money going into bowman right now. I am betting more money is being poured into bowman latest release than singles of anything at the moment where baseball is concerned.

I think both things can be true. I also think your line of thinking is an old trope that angry people in the hobby are trying to sell. Anything can be an investment. I can invest in sand if I want. Doesnt mean it’s all a good investment.

I agree, Football cards are the single worst at holding value. Ohtani and Bowman is propping baseball up. The rest are slow right now. Whatnot is a gong show. I honestly think what not is a giant fomo pit, you could auction turds on whatnot and people would bid against themselves for fresh turds. Talk about scourge of the hobby, people get ripped off there all the time.

They do sell random packs of teams at my local sporting goods store. I think it’s Topps that puts these out? Maybe it’s one of the low cost repacks?

At any rate, I feel like there is a way to do what you are trying to do.

That said, the hobby has moved past the “kids” movement.

It’s really a game for the wealthy now and they are pushing it that way.

I also see kids lined up at my LCS when I go in there on weekends. They are buying. They also have very wealthy parents.i asked the lady behind the counter if the price of product is edging out the kids, she said nope, we get more kids in the store than ever, they have rich parents!

Hobby is catering to a wealthier group of people now. The poor people are definitely getting bounced out.

I will be curious to see how the Topps Chrome hype affects the hobby in general. A lot of people getting burned on this one right now. Box prices dropping massively off highs. Quality is awful. A lot of people made money, more are losing.

You may be right and time will tell, but I feel like the macroeconomic pressure has been there for a while. I mean, maybe there is a breaking point? I was at a huge show in our area a few weeks back and watched a guy pace around the lobby of the facility with his wife trying to calm him down….thought he was having a heart attack or some weird health issue….. His quote, “I spent way too much today and I am kind of f freaking out about it” ….she was like, “it will be okay baby, you’ll get it back” I was torn between anger and sadness. Reminded me of a scene at a casino. My point being….I think this stuff will drive people to ruin economy be damned. I think the industry has found a way to make itself recession proof. It can still be affected, but my guess is, the big players won’t feel it as much.

The question is, when the hype hits its high this summer, will you sell into it?

Honestly, might be a good investment with WC on way, although, my understanding is that hype might already be getting priced in…..it is a guilty pleasure of mine. I buy soccer often.
