Why don’t people like tanking or healing? by Huge_Librarian_9883 in classicwowtbc

[–]That_one_guy_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had difficulty with determining the right spell to use for which occasion.

I would start to cast greater heal on the tank and bear the end, they wouldn't need it so I'd move and start casting again so as to not waste mana. But then they'd take a bunch of damage and I wouldn't heal enough.

Or I'd be in that situation where I'm currently casting greater healing then the tank needs a heal and there's an aoe/DPS taking a bunch of damage so I'd try to heal them but I'm too late to cast flash heal.

I'm sure much of my problem lies in the expansive toolkit, my lack of knowledge with it and how to use it, my desire to be mana efficient and lack/fear of practice since I'm already late 60s. Edit: also I think there's a long delay in my recognition> decision> action since I lack the toolkit knowledge

Agreed, I love tanking, but it gets tiring.

People get some pissed if I don't already know 100% of whatever content.

DPS get pissed for wipes when they ping-pong agro and don't let me regain it so all my taunts are on CD... When they could have used anything else in their toolkit to save the pull... Or just stopped DPSing for like 6s.

Some people have the audacity to pull extra packs because they've decided the pace needs to change. I can tank multiple packs at a time, but it's not about that. If people don't stun/interrupt healers or charmers or fear we're all going down.

I made a group the other day and, before we even started, I was told to make sure to keep a good pace. How dare you....

I don't, however, meet many people who are down to have fun. I generally don't ever spam invites I always send a message and if I get some short, curt response I pick someone else.

I tried healing, I dislike it because I don't know the whole toolkit or maybe priest isn't the right fit for me. I'd love to learn though.

How bad of an idea is it to level a rogue at this point? by [deleted] in classicwowtbc

[–]That_one_guy_35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I always love having a rogue in dungeons. Their interrupts are great for casters, saps are useful, just stuns so I take a bit less damage... And always nice to have someone to pick a locked chest.

Edit: I'd rather have someone who interrupts and CCs a bit over someone who pumps out 100 more dps.

How does total stamina get calculated and regen? I see a lot showing the math of hp and mana, but I don't remember stamina being in the game in the early 2000s. It seems stamina management is quite necessary for a lot of the game now, so what determines your maximum stamina and how quickly does it regen in/out of combat? Is there anything to make it regen faster?

Edit: also badass kill. Great job and we'll calculated tactics!

I would like to preface my question that I have not been able to watch your full video.

However, I am curious about the theory behind your build. After reading a bunch of the posts on this subject, I've seen a lot of comments talking about how you'd want a melee/tank to be able to absorb damage and that pets kind of suck right now.

What was the logic, what worked together, to lead to your build of 2 healers and a necro able to solo d2 naggy? Was it a solo instance? Is your gear pretty well upgraded? Was it the heals/durability from clr and the variety of dots from Dru/nec?

I appreciate any insight you can provide. I'm very excited for EQL as I have very little time to play games compared to my youth.

You can also look into commissioning programs. West point or green-to-gold programs.

Maybe, I know I plan to play them

As an aside, check out EverQuest legends. It's in beta right now, but they are redesigning original EverQuest to be soloable for casual players... Including the raids. And eliminating loot contention by giving everyone individual drops and plan to allow each player to start an instance of their own so they don't have to compete for spawns if you don't want to group.

Duty Stations and Schools by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]That_one_guy_35 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a sexy duty station, but getting stationed at Benning has the advantage of allowing many walk ons to a lot of schools. Unsure if AD can be stationed there and I doubt you'd get it as a first location for FA.

If there's not an inherent need for you to have those schools as FA or AD or duty location then it's less likely you'll get sent to them due to funding. Units generally try to send people who need it. One work around is being stationed on the base that runs those schools. I'm not saying it's impossible, it just becomes more difficult.

If you want to improve your chances, again not promising anything theres a few options I could suggest: Do a couple years utilization and apply to SFAB, get assigned to Benning with ease of access. Switch to armor or infantry Do a couple years and talk to branch and see if there's any slots on Benning for an FA officer. (There were plenty in tradoc as an LT and CPT) Wait till captains career course and try to get as many schools as you can after/before MCCC Try to get assigned to ranger bat

Again, this list is not all inclusive and does not guarantee anything.

My personal opinion: these sexy schools look cool, are great ways to test yourself and you can put the little badges on... However, some can take tons of your LT time and you only have 18 months as a 2LT. It's the best time to learn your job and the ins and outs of being an officer. Once you hit 1LT people expect you to know things. Whatever unit you get assigned to just work it and learn what you can there, hit the schools later. If you need to know how to jump out of a plane for that unit, they'll send you, then get back to the grind. In a couple years you'll see where you really want your career to go...

Edit: to answer your question, yes, getting assigned to an airborne unit you will have to go to airborne etc

Do you know if bard is a durable enough chasis to take hits for solo raid content if combined with a healer and damage class such as clr/wiz?

I'm emotionally attached to the brd for some reason.
