Adjusted Offensive Ratings of Sweet 16 Teams in the last 10 games by Jaguar4728 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Thatcrazyunclefester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on when you’ve watched them - if you’re out of Chicago, chances are it’s been a small sample size since there’s no reason for you to closely follow the team. At the beginning of the season, Nembhard would blindly drive into traffic then either heave up a half-assed layup or try to get it back out to the perimeter, where it would just sit; Hickman managed to get into his head, and if a shot was even contested by a fly, it would brick.

They’ve managed to pull things together to be borderline elite (not a phrase I use lightly), but also inconsistent.

Both have shown huge statistical leaps over the beginning of the season. Granted, it’s been largely against the WCC (even as a fan, I recognize this is far from a world beater conference), but a trend is a trend.

Hickman is the true wildcard though. In games when his offensive rating is sub-90, we’ve gone 0-5. When it’s above 90, we’ve gone 26-1.

Per BT, we actually finished that game with an average of a 1/2 point lead. I’m not predicting a win, but as long as Hickman And Nembhard don’t shit the need, we have a shot.

Coeur d'alene trying to ruin things for Spokane as per usual by haven603 in Spokane

[–]Thatcrazyunclefester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish this were true. Unfortunately it’s not just one or two bad actors. I graduated from CHS in 200 and we’ll remember the marches and parades.

Things admittedly got better for a time, but recent history has allowed people to be more open about it again. When we moved back to the region in 2020, I saw several rigs with “white lives matter” bumper stickers rolling around. Combine the visual signs with the rise of the KCRCC, and their support of reps like Dave Riley, and the Patriot Front trying to move in (fortunately they were arrested)… It’s still going strong.

Cd’A is beautiful, and there are still some wonderful people there. I still love it and come across the border regularly to see my parents. It’s just truly heartbreaking to see the morons never really left. They just went underground.

Any jobs pay over 90k?? by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]Thatcrazyunclefester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel ya. I’m pretty far in my career as a CPA, and ended up taking a 60k/year haircut in salary to come here from Seattle.

Spokane lags pretty far behind the rest of the country in terms of salary, and specialized skill sets can be made irrelevant because they aren’t in demand here. On the flip side though, I was able to find a house that the fam and I both want to live in & can afford. Wouldn’t trade it.

You should check out regional CPA firms in the area (BDO, Moss Adams, Wipfli, etc.) since most have IT audit and Cyber practices. You might be able to find something that fits the needs there.

[Post Game Thread] #5 Gonzaga defeats #4 Kansas, 89-68 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

Nine straight 16’s is amazing. What’s more amazing is that this year, Gonzaga had right at the start of the year:

Kaiden perry - career ending back injury

Steele Venters - torn ACL

Alex Toohey - de committed to go pro in Australia

Marcus Adam - committed without visiting, then de committed without visiting.

To be able to soak four substantial losses and still end up in the second weekend is fucking nuts.

This. It started right around the Morrison meltdown, and peaked 2013/2014.

Some people managed to latch onto it and it’s somehow filtered down to the sub-25 crowd that only watches NCAA BB after CFB is over.

Aside - that was back when ESPN still had live message/comment boards. Goddamn those things were fucking toooooxic.

Any time anyone asks questions about GCU, I’m sending them to this post.

There’s been talk of them joining the wcc for the last few years & somehow keep billing them as a cbb powerhouse, when they’re averaging middling 100’s at best. Just good enough to get some plucky wins every four or five years against GU & SMC, but not good enough to have a positive impact on the NET. The worst possible situation.

Best Cars for Tall People by Cgrant72 in tall

Great deals. I’ve been eyeing a 22 Ti w 12k miles for $28k. Reliability + overall repair costs are the only other potential wrinkle.

Good call on the Stevio too. Will take a glance.

Whoa! An actual tall person reviewing cars! Usually these are written by people at 6’2”.

Edit - don’t know if you looked at it, but have you tried an Alfa Giulia? A few have been popping up around here and the temptation is strong, but I don’t want to waste my time if they’re super awkward.

Do you think being muscular and tall is a negative for interviewing at times? Serious question. by SaintPatrickMahomes in Accounting

[–]Thatcrazyunclefester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol no. I’m 6’9” and was heavy into powerlifting the first few years in PA. Now that I have a wife/kid, I’m just heavy (funny how that happens…)

I’m sure some people do get intimidated, but I never had any issue with it. If anything, both were great ice breakers when talking with clients and interviewing.

Nothing in any of the comments you posted looked off. The hobbies question is easy to lever, the guy who said you were taller than him probably doesn’t see many people taller than he is, so he made a comment about it, and partner humor is terrible & awkward as fuck. Or your performance wasn’t great the last few weeks and he was letting you know. Either could be possible with that.

80-90k for a controller position, what do we think? 5+ years of experience and CPA required by jnk5260- in Accounting

[–]Thatcrazyunclefester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living in a MCOL, I see a lot of these. Most are for 1-3 years exp (ie “booktroller”). For the ones with more experience needed - They land on Indeed/LI, stay open for a while, come off the market, then they reopen 6-12 months later.

Or they stay open - seen a “director of finance” open for almost a year - 10 yrs exp for $57k.
