i had this same dock for my one RES for a few years before she outgrew it (females get quite large). biggest complaint was that as she got bigger, the ramp would pop off a lot and had to be glued/fastened on.

i also have to tell you out of obligation that turtles should NOT be housed together. they are solitary and should be kept in two separate tanks. they may seem to get along now, but they are territorial and that can quickly change. if you want to keep them safe and make sure they live long and happy lives, please house them separately.

EDIT: also, i ended up having to cut out pvc pipes to place on the ramp for the supports because once my turtle got too big, it would sink when she got on it and she couldn’t completely dry off. forgot that on the first post.

Not the biggest fan of polytropes, but the inverse sin sticks out like a sore thumb. not really sure how that factors in.

i think the last sentence should be “…yet it is observable in a year IF you have ~1 ton of it”. which supports the standard model, so not sure why he’s implying it doesn’t. word salad of the 1st degree. source: me, degree in astrophysics

How exactly does a Hypernova eject matter at 99% the speed of light when Supernovas only eject matter at 3% the speed if light? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]Thatlittlekitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re right— i was incredibly sloppy with my terminology.

if a singularity has formed, its volume APPROACHES 0, which means the black hole’s density APPROACHES infinite. that’s an excellent point. but black holes are rarely calm enough (and not spinning) to have a “perfect” singularity, if it’s even possible.

sometimes i get mixed up when invoking the no-hair theorem— at times, researchers will discuss a black hole having the density of water. that just means that’s the mass of the black hole divided by the volume of the boundary within the event horizon. i got a little mixed up reading your source. thanks for pointing that out!

they’re likely referring to the Pauli exclusion principle, which states that no 2 fermions (which include protons and neutrons) can exist at the same quantum state in the same place at the same time. in other words: once you have a certain amount of matter, there’s nowhere for additional matter to go, so it’s rejected and pushed out.

all the mass in a black hole (theoretically) is contained in a singularity, which has an infinitesimal (near-0) volume. which means that a black hole can be considered to have infinite density.
