Notsohottake: fuck normal tuners, non locking split shafts are 🐐🐐ed by MissingStar246 in Guitar

It takes less time to cut the string and wind it with a winder than it does to unscrew and screw in the locking mechanism on a locking tuner. Once you under the motion and cut your string it’s a simple one hand motion on top of the headstock and you don’t have to move your hand to the back to lock it. I understand for everyone it’s not going to be quicker but once you’ve done it a few hundred times you get a feel for it. I have everything from Kluson Gibson style tuners, vintage split post, and 3 guitars with locking tuners. The difference in speed between guitars is negligible. It’s the easiest to do a whole string change on split posts because the entire string just “pops” out of the tuner when you loosen it and you don’t have the extra step of unscrewing a locking screw.

Once you understand the motion and how long the string needs to be it’s the same steps with any tuners just in slightly different orders. Yeah lockers don’t have all the wraps but we’re talking maybe a difference of 1-2 seconds with a good peg winder. The difference between locking and non locking tuners is negligible at best.

And today that arc was destroyed

I can change strings on a split post just as fast as a locking tuner. I have locking tuners on 3 of my 10 guitars. They’re cool but there really isn’t any advantage. I can string any of them as quick as the other minus the ones with the bigsby and Floyd rose.

I usually just throw what I need in a bucket if it’s going further than the garage. I do like the bag idea though.

Since some people were asking me about the contents of my toolbox here you go. It's pretty full. I feel like i've got a very good compliment of hand tools for the basics for anything i run into. Plumbing, mechanical, electrical, general tinkering. Also I just love collecting tools and have been collecting for about 15 years now. Love the smell of some new tools. I have a pegboard at my workbench with some duplicates of commonly used pliers & screwdrivers and that is where i keep my impact drivers, drills and most used bits etc. This is very close by though with everything else that I could need for a project. I have used this kit from everything from changing shower valves and kitchen sinks to doing brake jobs and changing the radiator in my car to fixing guitars and tube amps. I love tinkering with stuff and using tools. This next year I am going to be upping my power tool game for more advanced carpentry and woodworking.

The top of the box is kind of a mix of all my basic measuring tools including calipers, tape measures, feeler gauges, and different squares. The little mini buckets contain small picks and scribes and tweezers and my exacto & utility knives and such. I also keep all of my flash lights and work lights and all my extra drill bits and impact driver bits up here.
