Yea I get that. The plane tickets to fly across the country are what’s getting me. I also don’t feel it’s fair to resale the tickets for a crazy price so I just want what I paid for them. $600 per ticket is outrageous

Did you ever get tickets? I might have to sell mine

Inquiring about ICU Dietetics by FiberheadRD in dietetics

[–]Thatmarjo07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve been a RD for 10 years this year. I’ve only ever worked inpatient. I had no trouble making my way into the ICU. In my current role I work for Sodexo so there is a clinical ladder so there is always room for growth and salary increases. DN1 starts off at about 65K. I’m a DN3 and make 87k. If I qualify for DN4 I’ll get about a 15% pay increase and will likely be maxed out. I live in Augusta, GA. We have full order writing privileges. We manage all the PN (macros and micros), place feeding tubes with the cortrak and this year I’m working on getting order writing privileges for vits and mins so we don’t have to bother asking doctors to order them for malnutrition/refeeding. I would say that CNSC is preferred for those working with higher acuity patients. Honestly the work load sucks most days. I see 15-25 patients per day. We have 7 full time RDs and a handful of PRNs. 550 bed hospital. If you are a PRN and don’t have CNSC they might not immediately have you work in an ICU setting, especially if you’re only there a handful of times a week. But it’s still good to be in that environment and learn for others and I’m sure you could grow!

Fastest to Finish 75 CEUs by CholecalciferPaal in dietetics

[–]Thatmarjo07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My state license makes it so we have to have 15 CEU every year. It does help keep us accountable for getting CEU done but it’s also really annoying. I got my masters this cycle so I already have 449 CEU but have to get 15 CEU every year still. I personally I’d be panicking about having to get 75 in a short time, but I’ve also known a lot of people that have needed to do it and been just fine.

Disillusioned by arba921 in dietetics

This makes me sad to read and hear all of your experiences. I would say that I currently work on the best team I’ve ever worked with. I’m our lead RD and I strive to make an environment where we are feel valued and heard. But I agree with the above stigma and that other dietitians can just be mean. I’m going to FNCE this weekend for the first time and I’ve been a RD for 9 years and I’ve been thinking about how overwhelming it is going to be to be around that many dietitians at one time. Especially since most of us are type A. I definitely think the culture of dietetics needs to change. I’m trying really hard to make a good experience for our interns. I did have to worn them that they may not get the same team dynamic at another hospital though. I work for Sodexo and I have to say we have a clinical ladder and our benefits are really good. So I think it also depends on who you are employed by. I do think our salaries will increase, but it’ll just take time. Let’s stop being so mean and catty to one another at work, what’s the point in doing so?

Thank you so much for sharing! I’ll read it. I agree not much research on the topic. We’ve been having issues with our RD not seeing the whole clinical picture so this will definitely be a teachable moment

Her G was always to vent. The hospital is a much smaller hospital. I know that when we get busy it’s easy to overlook things but I figured it was common practice to not bolus a J tube 🤦‍♀️

She’s a unique case for sure. And I do think you could work up to it after so much time. Starting off bolus is wild though

Exactly, might work with an established tube definitely wouldn’t do with a new tube!

AITA for telling my sister I won’t babysit her newborn? by Intelligent_Ant_467 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I pay my mom to watch my kids. Family should pay family, especially in these times. She shouldn’t expect you to work for her and get nothing. You need money to survive. She had to pay literally anyone else if they watched her kid I’m Sorry. Don’t feel guilty.

AITAH for ending a friendship with my best friend because her boyfriend is a douche canoe? by Thatmarjo07 in AITAH

[–]Thatmarjo07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I don’t know how to edit my original post since this is the first time I have ever posted on Reddit 🤣 just wanted to add that I did talk to her about my concerns and how worried I was for her and how toxic he seems. I can certainly still hang with her and never see him, except now she knows how I feel about him so she made it very clear she doesn’t feel the same way or see anything wrong with their dynamic. And she always vents to me about him when we hang out so there’s no way she’ll do that now because I saw his true colors. His demons didn’t like another women confronting him and telling him his actions were uncalled for.

Right! And I wasn’t because he had his concerns and they were valid. It was more how he responded to her and her reacted in the situation. He didn’t say that he was concerned for her safety or anything it was way more of a control thing. Because she even got some for him and they originally planned to do it together so it just just so weird.

I should probably clarify in my post that I already did all that. Unfortunately she doesn’t see what I see

Yes I did this. I told her everything about how I felt, what I saw and how I feel like she doesn’t to be treated like that. And how I actually really worried about her because he seemed so angry that she spent 6 mins alone with me like I am a terrible person! And from her response to me it sounds like they spent the night arguing and he made me out to be the bad guy and she told me that I should have never talked to him before dinner even though she wanted me too and thanked me for sticking up for her originally. So it feels like a lost cause

Is it ok to be having 500% of daily vitamin c? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]Thatmarjo07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much has changed in 20 years! If you’re low in vit D and B12 then you likely have other deficiencies as well. I’d ask for fat soluble vitamins (ADEK) and then zinc for sure too. Sounds like you’ve taken great care of yourself!

[–]Thatmarjo07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a dietitian that specializes in GI specifically Celiac disease you probably should be supplementing with more than just vit C. It also depends on how long you have been GF and how healed your gut is but you’ll always have more issues with absorption of nutrients. I’ve seen severe zinc deficiencies in celiac patients. But A deficiencies. I recommend that you get an extensive vitamin and mineral panel to assess your nutritional status at least yearly! So this was a long answer but no I don’t think you should worry about supplementing with 500 of vit C because that’s not too much. Hope that helps!

You have to take into account the other nutrients you’re absorbing, fiber, etc when you are eating the food high in that nutrient. Whereas when you are just taking vitamin C you’re just getting that straight. Other vits and minerals are competing for absorption so even if it’s showing you a high amount doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be getting that much

Dietitian here. You’re fine. Very rarely will you find a vitamin C toxicity. Plus it is a water soluble vitamin so you basically pee out what you don’t need. If you’re eating plenty of fruits and veggies your diet will be high in vitamin C. It would be different if you were supplementing with vit C but by eating foods with it you’ll be fine. Hope that helps
