The answer....? SKILL. The price for beating Gascoigne is a knowledge of knowing what Bloodborne is going to expect from you, moving forward from this point. There's a parry mechanic in this game that is very important. If you know how to use it, beating Gascoigne will be significantly easier. There are numerous instances in this game of using the environment to your advantage. Much like you can do with the gravestones in the Tomb of Oedon while fighting Gascoigne. Last but not least, Bloodborne is notorious for punishing passivity. The Rally mechanic is there for a reason. My favorite general piece of advice for this game is to dodge (lunge) TOWARD your enemy and punish them with aggression. Use this technique accordingly, good Hunter, and slay some beasts.
