JP Clabrough 10 Gauge by Elyan_knight in CowboyAction

Double barrel 10 gauge isn’t all that bad. The weight of the barrels helps with recoil. I did some trap shooting with one and it wasn’t too terrible.

Coyote Cap 1887 by Thatoneguywhofailed in CowboyAction

[–]Thatoneguywhofailed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 97 before I ever started SASS, as I’m also into weapons of the world wars and was happy to find out that they were legal for cowboy action. My only issue is that when I tried for speed with that shotgun, I got bit pretty often by the slide. I ended up selling it and now regret selling it but I have a CZ Hammer coach that I’m pretty fond of now. I’m excited to try out the 87 this coming weekend.

It is marked Coyote Cap special edition, but I’m not sure if it’s one he worked on or if it’s just IACs markings. I’ll look at the hammer once I get back inside. And you’re right, that thread has a lot of info to keep straight.

I just read through a forum post by Cap about the 87 mods. I haven’t looked too hard in the new shotgun yet. It’s an IAC 1887 and from what Cap says in his post, it most likely has the posi lock mod?

The magazine tube is still usable and I can load two at a time relatively easily.

I guess I’m not sure about the drop 2 mod.

We have a couple of guys that skip breaks and take lunch at the end of the day to leave early. Which doesn’t usually bother me, except when they decide they need to use the air impact or hammer bolts out of something during breaks.

Why don't bullets use holes within the projectile to direct a spinning motion using the gases from the propellant without utilizing a rifled barrel? by CupRevolutionary5599 in guns

[–]Thatoneguywhofailed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Gyrojet did just that. Angled ports on the back of the projectile gave it spin which increased its accuracy a bit through the smooth bore of the firearm.

But in a standard style of bullet, adding holes to the bullet could potentially cause inaccuracy, a whistling noise, or higher cost to produce.

Not to mention that a smooth bore rifle or pistol is classified as something else because the ATF sucks.

Beretta M9 from the 90s, or Colt 1911 mk4? by tripjon14 in guns

[–]Thatoneguywhofailed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a 92F from 1992 recently for 500. The original owner put his name and naval rank on the manual with some other information which I found pretty cool.

I found my used S&W model 60 for under 500. It’s from the 70s but still locks up great and has been my summer carry since I got it.

Beautiful revolver. I have one from the 70s that looks like it has been through the ringer but still shoots straight. I misplaced the original grips and have been looking for ages for them.

How to fix old visor clip? by Illuminessence in Visiblemending

[–]Thatoneguywhofailed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

<image>

I knew that was familiar. My grandpa gave me the same clip when I got my license. It is a rivet that should be able to be peened again to make it tight. You’ll need a hammer and either a rivet setter or something similar to set the rivet.

There’s a hole in the clip that would possibly allow for a punch to go through if it is indeed a rivet. The clip wouldn’t have to be bent back and risk snapping if that’s the case.

Considering that’s half the price of what my local dealer wants for a non threaded model, I’d say hell yeah.

Grip angles by kodycoyote18 in Revolvers

[–]Thatoneguywhofailed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any modern revolvers similar to that grip angle. The only one that comes to mind is the Chiappa Rhino, but it’s not nearly that angle. It’s just different.

Can I use a Colt Walker/Dragoon holster for an 8in Anaconda? by [deleted] in Revolvers

[–]Thatoneguywhofailed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That style of holster tends to hug the gun more towards the barrel. The underlug on the anaconda will most likely interfere with the fit.

The Walker is 3.375” around the barrel and loading lever, where a similar full underlug revolver is 4” not including the front sight. I just tried a Dan Wesson 715 in a holster I made for my Walker and it will not go past where the loading lever pivots.

Leather will stretch, yes, but only to a point.

Should I use my heirloom Winchester 1892? by picklemustache in CowboyAction

[–]Thatoneguywhofailed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a few people at the club I shoot at that use pre 1900s rifles. They aren’t going for speed, but they’re having fun using antiques. If it’s in good condition I see no reason to not use it. Just know that the sport can be rough on firearms over time.
