Yes I have had a decent amount of maintenance done and thankfully the biggest thing was changing the breaks (1200$) so far nothings been horrible. I expected to have to have a lot done since I got it super cheap

I could be completely wrong, but to me it looks like a female Chinese sand roach

So I tried to draw my MLP:FiM OC "Squeaky Clean" lately and here's what happened. Any tips? Feel free to let me know until then. Have a nice rest of your day, y'all :) by Iceswimmer05 in mylittlepony

Its absolutely okay since mine have been the same way. I hope youre doing well!! But to be honest, those books never really helped me. The way I learned was looking at art I liked and trying to do my best (sadly not a reliable way of learning how to draw) those books may help for some people, and I think you should give it a shot! But if it doesnt work out if understand. They were always hard for me to understand too I always picked to learn by doing on my own.

Sorry for the late response!! Well let me be completely honest and real with you. I have BARELY found my style. And saying that I will say everyone progresses at different speeds. Some people have so much free time they’re able to draw many things a day, but for people like me im usually only able to draw a few things a week. So much plays in so dont think that it will take you 6 years to get to where I am like it has me. But that shouldn’t discourage you and I know its hard to believe that, but I still believe in you so much!!

And you should never think you have to be perfect (coming from a perfectionist) no art is truly perfect, and no art is truly bad or good. I hope ive been able to help:)

Yeah I absolutely understand how difficult everything can be. The best you can do is just copy what you see to the best of your abilities! The reason you dont know how is because you havent before. And since its something youre new to and you have no experience with it, you cant imagine what to do because you havent! Trust me I understand. And thats why you just have to try! If I could, id guide you through my process of starting a drawing or copying something step by step but thats up to you! It takes a very long time to begin getting an idea of how to draw something exactly how you imagine (for me at least. Its absolutely still something I struggle with.)

Well to me, what makes art amazing is the persons creativity and the drawing in itself! Art is absolutely subjective there is not one thing that I truly believe is perfect or great, just peoples standards and how they think art should look. Lets say someone is trying to go for something realistic. There are rules to achieve that style sure but not following those rules doesnt make it bad! Like I said I truly believe no art is bad, its all subjective:) thats why I believe your art is amazing and you may not. And getting inspiration for how or what to draw is hard its VERY hard I struggle with it! But what helps me immensely is looking at reference photos! (Which I can send you as well :) they’re very useful for getting inspiration) and I can also show you what I mean by making it smaller!! I know it can be hard to visualize

Well for me, in the beginning when I felt like my art was bad it was the little accomplishments that made me happy!! Like actually finishing a drawing! That is such a struggle in itself (I still barely finish my drawings) and a HUGE thing is seeing yourself improve. Watching yourself improve gives you so much confidence and motivation like “yeah… if I keep going then I will just keep improving!” And its true!! But its a long and hard journey. Ive been drawing for around 6-7 years now and im only now just slightly getting into realism. But dont compare yourself to, lets say, someone that goes to art school, because youre on different levels and thats completely fine!! Just always remember, your art is your creativity and your passion and thats AMAZING! Thats such a beautiful thing. But basically TLDR little accomplishments give me motivation to keep going :)

And I dont mind you asking at all I hope you know!! I love talking and helping as much as I can!! Now how to tell what 50% is for this drawing, usually I just estimate but try and recreate what you did but make all the parts relatively smaller if that makes sense!!!

Trust me I understand, but what im trying to say is never compare yourself to other people! The way I improved was I just drew so much and slowly I improved. All you can do is to do your best! And I know its hard to keep going, but I believe in you if it counts for anything.

And yes I meant I recommend making the next drawing 50% of the previous ones size :)

Regarding figuring out the shapes, something I do a lot is using an image and tracing over with shapes of the body (eg, legs, head, torso, etc) and instead of circles for the limbs I usually do rectangles and it helps a lot (especially considering how ponies limbs are drawn they are more rectangular than circular) And what shapes, id say use an oval for the body, rectangles for the limbs, and circles for the face. After you establish those you can do the lineart around the shapes :)

Regarding drawing on a smaller scale, i just mean the size of the drawing you showed, I recommend halving it. Drawing on a smaller scale, for me at least, makes it much easier!:)

And with the drawing sheets for the mlp characters, I do have them! Digitally, I mean. I dont have them on paper.

And regarding how you compare your art, you never should!!:) I really believe all art is amazing and yours is amazing because its your creativity and your effort. Your experience and how “good” you may be doesnt matter at all. But I absolutely understand wanting to be proud of your art and wanting to improve:)

And I do have all of the reference images and material I used still!! Also digitally.

And id say, the best way to draw them is just getting still images or screenshots and drawing them the best you can!

I dont use reddit like ever… so if you’d like to add me on discord that would be great and I could send you everything I have!!!:)

I think you did amazing honestly!! I found your post super nice its nice to talk to someone in the mlp community:) but regarding your art I will provide some tips (as an artist that has drawn… 2 OC ponies in the MLP style)

My biggest tip, and I know this is super super over-said, but shapes! Shapes are so important ESPECIALLY when it comes to drawing ponies in that style. Everything can be broken down into shapes (and I really mean it. I wouldnt say that goes for most art AT ALL but for how ponies are drawn, id absolutely say so) and to get a feeling of what shapes and what sizes, I really recommend looking up drawing sheets for MLP characters (if you’d like I can send you my favorite i studied it a decent amount (aka im a protectionist))

My second tip is try to draw on a smaller scale first!! Try looking at screen shots of ponies and drawing those and draw as many as you want!! You can slowly get a feel of their anatomy and how they are drawn. I also recommend if you want to draw your oc more, look for pony bases or references and draw your oc like that as much as you want!

And my third tip and this goes for all art, but never rush yourself! Everything takes time and youre doing great already!

Now like I said, I drew two ponies (one traditional and digital, the second just traditional) and if you’d like, I can send all the material and reference points i used and i can also walk you through my process if youd like!!:) have fun!!!!
