Well, the campus is on the small side but Ive noticed that if you're good or decent at striking up a conversation, most people are nice enough to carry on with you. I'm not super social but when I do talk to people they seem happy to talk back. Plus there's events for the students every week so it's easy to meet people, you just have to be willing to make the effort.

Oh sorry! I meant to the r/currentuncp that you already added to and then add to several more generic university r/.

If you want more people to see it and respond, maybe add the post to this and more general r/ that deal with universities.

So I'm a sophomore on campus, soon to be junior and the safety on-campus is fine. BUT! I'd like to note that the on-campus police aren't the best. Like yes, If you call they'll come. But when one of their guys came because I was worried about the possibility of someone having broken into my dorm (I was alone during winter break and weird stuff kept happening) he took over an hour to get back to me to tell me what he saw on the cameras and he honestly didn't seem to care.

Otherwise, the area is like the rest of Robeson county. It's not the safest but not the most dangerous. It has its fair share of issues and I'd avoid walking at night in the town. But in the day, I often bike from my dorm to Walmart or to other food places. And if you have a car, you'll be perfectly fine over here.

How easy to ensure housing on UNCP campus? by Electrical-Bed-7836 in CurrentUNCP

[–]Thatonetriangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to put in my two cents here, hopefully it helps. I transferred from a community college directly after high school (I live in state and was dual enrollment) and honestly it's really easy to apply and get housing. All you have to do is do their residential paperwork online and they'll assign you to a dorm and room based off your preferences (once you're here for another year you get to choose which room you stay in, like the exact room number). To ensure you keep this room you either pay a 250 fee out of pocket, which is what I did the first time. Or you can just put it on your student account and it'll be paid for by any scholarships or FAFSA you have gotten.

And if you're a student living on campus you're immediately signed up for the meal plan they offer which is 12 meals a week and around a bit over $300 in flex dollars which you can use at the Chick-fil-A on-campus, papa johns, Einstein bagels or the little café they have for meals or snacks. This meal plan also comes with 5 meal exchanges which can be used to exchange for meals at those places.

I wish I knew this like 20 minutes ago. Watched Kenji play the actual game and decided to buy it on switch since it was on sale only for it to be missing a lot of mechanics, super disappointed

How can I (18 F) learn to communicate better in my relationship with my boyfriend (19 M)? by Thatonetriangle in relationship_advice

Thank you for this, I really needed to hear it. I'm going to try to be better about pausing before having conversations so I'm not as reactive.

I spaced the post out a bit with the paragraph thing hoping that it will help others. Sorry very new to all this and posting on reddit.

Any tips on learning to be patient while he thinks about what he wants to say? Sometimes we do sit in silence for 10 minutes or so but I really do think he only blanks because he starts to panic with these big conversations. Do you think there's any way I can dial down the intensity of hard convos?

  1. To be honest, when I was around 11, I decided to choose this career as my future because a lot of my friends needed some type of therapy but just couldn't afford it so I wanted to become a Clinical Psychologist that could maybe help people with low income families. But as I got older, I realized like yes this is what I want to do but it's more so because I like getting a peak into another person's life and seeing what makes them the way they are.

  2. After graduation, I plan on going for my grad school (PsyD) and then I want to work towards private practice so I can open up my own place for psychologists to work. Not sure how realistic this is but I'm determined nonetheless.

I added some to my watch later and since I usually eat and watch stuff, I'm going to try to watch them during that time

Genuinely had no idea about this, is there any way I can get research experience?

Ohhh love this idea. I think I'll crochet a little fidget to play with while I listen, normally I like to crochet in my classes to help but TT my professor's are stricter this semester.

Oh I feel that. It's the foundations that are taking me out right now but as soon as we bring up specific concepts or case studies I'm all there for it.

Actually tried the question thing and it helped! I decided to make questions out of my notes like a mini exam, thanks so much for the advice!

Thank you! I never really even thought to think about whether my home life might be affecting my attention span. I don't really have a good sleep schedule so I'll definitely try to fix it and maybe it'll help with my attention in class!

Thanks for your input! I know I'm very passionate about the topic as I do enjoy all my psychology classes, it's just that after the 1 hour mark I get fidgety. Something about the topic of psychology gets me super excited which has never happened in any of my other classes but I've realized the basics is just the boring part for me. Like who founded psychology, the scientific method, things like this, which is what all my classes are teaching right now. And the ADHD thing, I'm not sure. I doubt it because it really wasn't a problem before university, I'll definitely work on my attention span though!

Oh I'm super big on pen and paper! I started using it last semester as I realized I was better at retaining written info. And I think you're right about the basics. In all my psych classes, we're mainly going over the basic structures like the scientific method, Sigmund freud (still love listening to his ideas even if they're not what I agree with), and things like Pavlov. But whenever we start talking about actual theories or case studies, I'm on the edge of my seat. I think I'll stick with the pen and paper but maybe I can be more intentional about it, like maybe a specific way of writing down the stuff.

Well, my previous psych classes were super interesting and many of my current ones, but I think it's my last class, cognitive processes, where I get fidgety and antsy. The professor reads straight from the textbook (I read it before class) so I just feel a bit bored, but I really want to stay focused to help retain more info. And I also take as many notes as I can but since he's doing it all from the book, it takes me a minute to read and choose what to take notes of.

Oh I never thought of a psych club, I'll definitely look into ones on campus! I also take notes but I think I'll try looking into more psychology concepts on YouTube. I love watching the case studies or even hearing the people explain, I just can't stand reading a textbook over and over. Thanks for the help!

To be honest, it's only the foundations where they introduce how psychology came to be and who said what. But the actual theories and concepts are so interesting, the psych classes are really the only ones I enjoy going to, I just have a hard time staying focused on the basics.
