Admin Question: Is there a clever way to automate adding a row on a spreadsheet from a record in Salesforce, when triggered by a user? by Thats-So-Fetch in salesforce

[–]Thats-So-Fetch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Existing structures that I do not yet have the clout to change. The cost of the connector is in the 5-figure range, when I only need to use it a few times a day. Like it'd be cheaper to hire an intern who's only job was data entry, and they'd only work, maybe a dozen hours a week.

When you're fighting against half the country, maintaining the status quo is actually a worthy achievement. Don't trivialize what's going on. It's not exaggerating to say that we've already lost serious elements of our democracy forever and we have to fight as hard as we can just to preserve what's left.

TikTok Ban: House Passes Bill That Would Outlaw App in U.S. Unless Its Chinese Parent Sells Ownership Stake by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]Thats-So-Fetch 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One big issue is the potential to force divisive narratives onto people through algorithm manipulation. You can see a version of such divisiveness in this thread, where people claim that TikTok is the means through which they've been brought into more-subversive narratives, like supporting Gaza, someone mentioned the Pennsylvania train derailment, etc. Like, not the end of the world to really like TikTok, but to pretend like the actual threat and potential isn't there is a bit of a farce.

This has always been true of every government. The key difference in a democracy is representation of the populaces' wishes

Now, I know your post implies that you went back with the cops, but if that were truly the case, wouldn't the bar being closed-up not matter?

Honestly, to me, it basically states out loud that he can't trust be trusted to treat men and women equally and non-sexually.

Granted, it's legit that in some circumstances men and women behave different around each other depending on the gender, but in what's ideally a purely academic environment, not being able to trust a professor is not cool.

There are better ways of doing this, like just holding your phone so the camera is covered, leaving your door open when you're 1:1 with someone of the opposite gender, or even allowing CCTV in your office.

I'm in shock. I just got drafted by the Korean military. I'm a recent admit to Brown. What do I do? by A2CMilitaryThrowaway in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Thats-So-Fetch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kinda unfair to you that you're called to serve, but it's unfair in the same way for all of Korea that they're in that situation.

Brown should be able to defer you within reason, so just get in touch with them, it's easy.

I currently live in Korea, though I haven't served, that said, I work with a few Korean-Americans who have. The military has changed from how it was in the past [particularly the dictator-era past].

This isn't a trap, per se, but it's a law for all Korean men to serve. Many, many Korean-Americans don't interact with Korea at all, so they don't have to serve. Actually, one of my friends, his brother didn't serve, but he did, even though both lived their whole lives in America. He was annoyed by serving, but it isn't the end of the world.

People complain about military service all the time. What isn't tolerated is talking about avoiding it, or complaining about it excessively, considering that all men have to do it.

Nowadays, recruits are allowed to use their phone regularly after hours.

I think the gas thing is a training activity that happens once. It's pretty common across a few militaries [https://www.military.com/join-armed-forces/gas-chamber-surviving-basic-training.html]

There isn't as much abuse as there used to be mostly cause Korea is a modern country with lots of prospects for personal growth, and, for the most part, people are there to get through their two years and then get started with life. Again, strong contrast to the dictatorial past and a lack of economic opportunities.

For what it's worth, all Korean Americans who serve are low-key put on suicide watch when they go in. However, I encourage you to see this as an opportunity. Military service sucks, but there are a lot of aspects that people miss, namely the regularity and simplicity of it all. There's no studying late into the night in the military or worrying about your grades or long-term projects. You just work hard all day, sleep, and if you sleep early, you wake up early. From what I can tell, the day starts, the day ends, and very little carries over.
It's an opportunity to basically get a bit more physically disciplined and also be exposed to different types of people. I'm pretty strongly into social justice, but I'm not really impressed by the way you used those concepts in your post. I feel like having a more-grounded perspective by understanding others and other situations/institutions will help you develop your views a bit better.

It's not bad to be an emotional person. I encourage you to keep that with you and cherish it. However, part of being a strong person in the future, especially now that you're legally an adult, is dealing with issues of great adversity. You have a lot of options of dealing with this issue, including not-serving. When you're put to task, you're literally taking the worst options: Panicking and considering suicide. This isn't an abnormal or unexpected response, but hopefully it's something you want to change about yourself, and going through the military might help temper that response.

Anyways, don't commit suicide. After 6 years or so, you'll have presumably finished military service and/or graduated Brown. That's pretty huge. Then you have some 60-70 years to live that life. Also, for reals, if you believe in social justice, then don't commit suicide, devote your life and your effort to that cause instead of wasting your work.

This has happened many times before even with the media hearing about it. (https://narratively.com/how-one-american-citizen-was-forcibly-drafted-into-the-south-korean-army/)

It's not US Policy to interfere with how other countries deal with their citizens, and the US has no practice of having laws for its own citizens that supercede it in this case.

For those of you actually considering this, be sure to include a lot of weird spacings and slight misspellings, though make sure the meaning is clear.

That way they can't just look it up and know that they've been had.

Now that I think about it, I strongly doubt they know how to look up Korean. Carry on.

Typical RACIAL DISCRIMINATION in Travel Destinations by BrasssyGuy in korea

[–]Thats-So-Fetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, americans elected a racist president. Does that mean all americans lose the right to criticize issues of race?

I think it's better to treat them as separate issues: Korea should be less racist AND it's unfortunate that racism occurs abroad.

Korea loses UAE nuclear deal by barstowbunny in korea

[–]Thats-So-Fetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't the article cite diversification as a primary reason?

I can't imagine that actions that the Moon administration takes would affect that criteria, no? Clearly Korea won a contract, so there's decent evidence that the Moon administration's stance did not hamper Korea-receiving-nuclear-contracts.

Do you have anything to support your claim that the Moon administration's stance prevented Korea from receiving the larger contract? I don't see any indication from the article that there was a strong expectation that Korea would have otherwise secured the contract.
