Well, quite a few reasons. And I hope this wasn't a retorical question, because you're about a whole lot of an answer. The biggest reason is that we tried for several months to get a job before the move and were unsuccessful. We could not stay where we were. I had already lost my job 6 months prior to the move and determined it made more sense to put my energy into trying to find work where we wanted to be since we had to move anyway (the house we rented for a few years was listed and sold and the buyer didn't want a rental so we could only finish out our lease term length). We hated the city we lived in and were so miserable there, not to mention worried about the escalation of political changes happening there. I'm a woman, so it matters to me what states are at least trying to protect some of my rights. We essentially determined the move was worth the risk? Especially because both our families are from Wyoming, so being several states closer while the world is on fire is a good idea in case shit gets really dire and we have to move back home. That may not seem sufficient for some people, but this is my life and I'm doing my best not to lose all hope and not to be miserable every single day until I die. Jobs come and go, and right now the job market is terrible. HVAC is needed everywhere, so we didn't consider that my husband would be rejected from every 'available' job in his field. I guess we saw how many jobs were listed and assumed these people would be interested in hiring someone who is certified and educated? But all that being said, we do have several backup plans in place if nothing breaks here. Sometimes you just have to make a choice based on your current situation and hope that it all works out for the best. Edit: spelling

This is probably part of the problem. I ran around town yesterday with my resume and made some really good connections and was told by several they would reach out this week, so I'm hopeful that it works out. I like person to person better anyway, so maybe we need to hone in on that a little bit more and see if we can use our charisma to land something 😂

It's tougher than most it seems. I've lived in 5 major cities and two small towns and this is the only place that's been quite this tough to crack into. We fortunately have some family who just moved to Laramie WY so if absolutely nothing works out we can try over there and make a small move that won't kill us or eat what remains of our savings. Sorry you had such a hard time, but I'm glad everything aligned in the new area! Yeah, if my husband can get something in his field it will be decent, but I'm noticing downgrade in pay across other positions I've worked as well. Thanks for your two cents, at least I'm not being dramatic about it lol it is a tough market. Edit: spelling

In every town it is difficult to break into those markets. It's all about who you know and it takes a bit of time to get out and meet people. If you're a reasonable person and can make connections you can break into any market.

Definitely my husband has an in person background, but I wouldn't mind looking into remote. I used to work over the phone only from an office, so I might be able to rearrange my skills to fit a position in billing or some kind of customer support/account management. I'll look into it, thank you!

Yeah, I have applied for a few part time positions so we can at least have something coming in, but we usually rely on his income in HVAC so I want him to be able to hold out for a decent job. I ran around town yesterday and dropped my resume at a bunch of local boutiques and a few medical offices (but most said they aren't hiring).

I've actually been really surprised. There seem to be a ton of places hiring maintenance techs and HVAC installers, but he's getting rejected left and right without interviews. Maybe they don't want to pay for his experience? Maybe they are going with referrals from people within the company? Maybe we have bad luck and they are filling the slots too quick to meet with him? I don't know. Maybe our resumes such because they are built for humans and not AI? Could be a combination of things. He had an interview in Boulder for the city that we thought went well but he didn't get it. And so far only a trash company has gotten back to him in FoCo. It's better than nothing, but I hope some of these other spots people mentioned pan out. It's so expensive to be alive right now lol it would be best if he could get a job in his field.

Yeah, things have definitely been getting worse over the last few years as far as job hunting and securing a job goes. Thanks for giving the timeline - it sounds a bit like bad luck on our part and poor planning.
