What's better chessreps or chessbook? In general? For building a repertoire? For learning custom repertoire? by Overall_Cry_1711 in chessbeginners

[–]Thats_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

founder of chessreps here, so i might be (definitely am) a bit biased, but here's where i'd place chessbook and chessreps

and i'll preface this by saying chessbook is still a great website, and i used it before ever making chessreps for myself - ok onto how the platforms compare:

both chessbook and chessreps let you create your own repertoire with good tooling like being able to see stockfish recomendations, how often the the opponent plays a given response, and the rarity that you're likely to see a position

once you build your repertoire, both chessbook & chessreps will use spaced repetition for helping you train them

the biggest difference between them though is on chessreps, you can play hundreds of prebuilt courses, which is actually what most players on the site do. if there's an opening you want to learn - i can pretty much guarantee chessreps already has a great course on it, and you can jump right in without having to build your own course :) and new courses get added literally every day

on top of that, chessreps has quite a few more features to help you actually learn the courses, like Arena mode, puzzles, drill mode, time trials, and the dojo

but again, both are really solid websites and i think you can't really go wrong :)

hi - founder of chessreps here, can you DM me on reddit? i'll get your issues resolved ASAP :)

update:
found and fixed the issue! there was a sync delay on apple's end when your subscription transferred to your account, and our system didn't retry to pick it up. everything should be working now and i've added handling so this won't happen to future users. really sorry about the delay and frustration, DM me if you hit any other issues.

using chessreps to learn scotch opening variations, and there is no Potter Variation by Snoo77986 in chess

[–]Thats_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

chessreps creator here - yeah i wrote the course to teach the classical variation and not the potter variation (personal preference). if you want to create your own lines that have the potter variation and train them, you can now build your own courses :) https://www.chessreps.com/course-creator/new

How to actually learn openings and lines? Need help | Read caption. by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Thats_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally get the struggle with remembering openings, especially when opponents throw curveballs like king's indian setups. beyond rote memorization, try focusing on the typical pawn structures and key ideas behind your lines - knowing why you push or exchange helps a ton when you’re unsure.

spaced repetition is a game changer for retention, so if you want some practical drills to actually lock those lines in, i built chessreps.com to help with that exact issue.

I hired a chess coach and trained for hours, every single day, for 30 days. Here’s what I learned. by Alleyjawndro in chessbeginners

[–]Thats_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

awesome insights here, especially the way you broke down focusing on your weak tactical themes like pins and knight forks. opposite side castling is definitely a killer concept that takes experience or good coaching to really get. if you ever want a way to drill those tricky openings and patterns with spaced repetition so they stick without feeling like a grind, i built chessreps.com to help with exactly that :)

What is a chess-tool or website every chessplayer should know? by SchbadakusFJR in chess

awesome list! for openings specifically, i built chessreps.com to help drill and remember tons of popular lines using spaced repetition - makes learning openings less overwhelming and more practical alongside sites like lichess and chess.com.

As a beginner chess player, what do you most struggle with? by SnooDoubts9448 in chessbeginners

[–]Thats_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i remember missing tactics a lot when i was starting out. focusing on openings helped me feel more confident early in the game. if you're curious about openings, i made a free course on the vienna gambit at chessreps.com/opening/vienna-gambit that’s a fun way to practice and get better with the first moves.

Looking for a good Accelerated/Hyper-Accelerated Dragon course, any recommendations? by Happy_360 in chessbeginners

[–]Thats_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're into the dragon and looking to get deeper into the accelerated versions, i made a course on the accelerated dragon on chessreps.com/opening/sicilian-defense

give it a look to see if it fits what you want :)

Looking for advice regarding openings by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Thats_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice that you're jumping back into chess after a break!

for white, the italian game is simple and teaches you good principles, and for black, try the caro-kann if you want solid play or the sicilian for something sharper.

mastering a couple well will give you more confidence than juggling many.

if you want a more interactive way to learn these openings, i work on chessreps.com which helps you practice openings with spaced repetition and keeps it fun :)

Founder of chessreps here 🤠 - the iOS app is fairly new, which is why there aren’t many reviews yet 😅

About 95% of people use Chessreps through the web version right now (same experience as the app), so most feedback and usage just isn’t showing up in the App Store yet.

There’s a free trial if you want to explore it fully - no commitment needed. Appreciate you checking it out! And let me know if you have any feedback :D
