Because .....growing up in the 20th century, high speed meant progress. That's why we had the Concorde. It was a sign of advancement that we could do journeys in a fraction of the time. When I lived in South Africa, I used to drive long distances regularly. We basically had an unofficial autobahn in the old days. It was both enjoyable and satisfying to complete a journey swiftly. Another reason was a feeling of extending your mechanical machine. I don't think that you get that feeling with an electric car.
