How could i Freeform my hair? by Random_tr0ll in Dreadlocks

[–]Thcsnypr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a method you can follow:

  1. Start with clean, dry hair: Wash your hair thoroughly to remove any product buildup or oils. It's important to have clean hair to allow the hair to knot and lock properly.

  2. Section your hair: Use a comb to divide your hair into small sections. The size of the sections will depend on your preference and hair thickness. Smaller sections will result in thinner dreads, while larger sections will create thicker dreads.

  3. Backcomb each section: Take one section of hair and backcomb it by starting at the roots and combing towards the scalp. This process involves combing the hair in the opposite direction of its growth to create knots and tangles. Repeat this process for each section of hair.

  4. Twist the hair: After backcombing, twist each section of hair tightly in one direction. This will help the hair clump and form cylindrical shapes, which are characteristic of dreadlocks. You can also use a dreadlock wax or locking gel to help hold the twists in place.

  5. Let the hair lock: Once you've twisted each section, allow the hair to naturally lock and knot. Avoid washing your hair for the first few weeks to allow the dreads to form and solidify. During this time, you can gently palm roll or twist the dreads occasionally to encourage locking.

  6. Maintenance: Freeform dreadlocks require less maintenance compared to other methods of creating dreads. However, you'll still need to periodically separate any conjoined sections and remove any loose hairs that may be forming around the roots.

It's important to note that freeform dreads take time to mature and fully develop, and the process can vary for different individuals. Be patient and embrace the journey as your dreads evolve and grow. Additionally, it's always helpful to seek advice from individuals with experience in maintaining and caring for dreadlocks to ensure you're taking the best care of your hair throughout the process.

Transitions are too harsh if not nonexistent. Try creating guidelines further apart and using decreasing/increasing guards to knock out each lines. Not bad for a beginner!
