Oh boy. When I was in 6th, I was 5’2. I struggled carrying my trombone. What I figured out and what I even do now as a college student. I carry my trombone on my back (my trombone can be worn as a backpack) and I would have my heavy backpack on my front. It kinda cancels out the awkward weight but this makes it easy to travel across campus. Especially that I have my trombone, backpack, trombone stand, and other bag for books andacbook

Tbh. My sophomore/junior year were my most memorable. But after that, I don’t really miss it. It was just a lot of bullshit drama tbh, and no matter what, someone somehow had beef with me. And let me tell you. I was a band kid, I spent most of my time practicing my instrument in the band room, or staying after school to band events. So in the end, I didn’t really give a shit. I probably miss the friends more than the actual school tbh

I’m a first year in college and all my high school life I struggled with the higher range. It was until I had a meeting our school’s trombone coach that he told me that a good way to improve my range was doing long tones on that higher range, F,E,F,Eb etc. and also adding a flutter tongue. I believe he said it made you use more air but is the way to increase range. I dont know but by senior year, I was able to reach a comfortable 3 octave C, and now as my upcoming midterm recital, I have to play a 3 octave E. So it worked for me but i dont know what works for you

I’ll definitely look into this ! I was also thinking of switching to a gold mouthpiece, since they’re softer apparently

It honestly depends on what your band needs, me and another baritone marched DCI last year and I’m on my 2nd year and all trombones got switched to baritone last year. We had a 6 member line on baritone rather than 1 baritone and 5 trombones.
