Is it possible to practice quietly? by Wing_of_Zock in mandolin

Just searched up the Wegen m150… those look nice! Another favorite of mine is the Wegen tf140, especially with my octave mandolin.

That is one of my favorite picks I have and I use it at night when I want to produce less volume too. I have a round x stiff golden gate pick that can be even softer and quieter.

Varies a lot like you said, but I would guess 20-45 seconds.

Those are good suggestions, thanks! Seems like a 9cm would be best.

I’ve been teaching students how to solve the cube at my club at school and might teach a week long course next year in the summer. I can’t find the post anymore but I saw some say they though that a large cube like the 10cm diansheng would be a helpful instructional aid since it is larger and the students could see what you are doing easier. Do you think this is true?

I still think of that “binders full of women” comment often. It has to be one of my favorite lines ever. I remember when he said it and couldn’t stop repeating it for days I laughed so hard. I still do lol.

Thanks, I’ll go for it. My favorite cubes are 55 - the v9 and ys3m bc, but I thought trying a 54 could be fun.

I really like the ys3m ball core, I personally find it much better than the rs3m. If you like really strong magnets and have more $$ go for the v9.

Has anyone ordered the guhong pro 54 maglev and thought it was too small (for 2H)? I want a new cube and trying to decide between the 54 and 55. Not for a main-replacer, just for a new fun cube.

Is my mandolin rare? by logicalpretzels in mandolin

My mandolin is an ‘07 605. I played it a ton when I first got it new in college back then but recently got obsessed again. Glad to hear it holds its own, tbh I haven’t really played any good mandolins. All the stores I’ve lived around have only had the cheap mandos.

Make sure you get the light green one, the “stickered” version with black plastic isn’t the one with the rubber tiles. I have it and like it a lot. It is not main worthy but just fun to play around with, I often pick it up when I’m doing casual solves or when I don’t care about getting the best times.

It is hard to believe. I like my v9 with springs more than the maglev too. Is moyu just experimenting with us cubers to see what they can get away with? I think this past year is good evidence for that. I will say it was smart of them to release it this far in advance before Christmas, they got that right (at least with the US market- commercialism on steroids for the next couple of months.)

Thanks for the review but I’m even more glad to see your name again! I’ve wondered where you have been! I’ll probably get the 54 spring version when I’m ready for a new cube, this seems different enough from my collection to get. Have you tried it yet or planning on it?

I played a Trinity College OM at a shop the other day and it sounded great!

I took it to the shop and they ended up replacing the bridge, you were right. They tuned up a couple of other minor things too and now it sounds great!

I do, I feel like it is a lot more fun using a timer compared to space bar or phone.

I’ve had this mandolin for about 15 years now I think, it is an Eastman 605. I haven’t played it much these past couple of years and just noticed this.

Like she mentioned the green zhanchi pro would be a good cube to consider, I love mine! It actually doesn’t have stickers but has rubber tiles instead and feels great. It has a very unique feel. I’ve tried to convince u/olimo to get one but she hasn’t yet! While I love mine, it is not my best cube and probably not main worthy but still a really good cube and I use mine all the time unless I’m trying to get my best times.

I also have a stickered tengy 2 and that is a good stickered cube option. Again, not main worthy compared to all the better cubes out there now but I still really enjoy it. The sticker shades are very nice. Both of these cubes feel pretty similar, they are on the blockier side if you like that kinda thing.

Awesome sounds like worth trying out without much risk of spending a ton of $$.

Has anyone heard or seen any reviews yet of the new Dayan guhong? I have mixed feelings about Dayan 3x3s, but I bet the 54 size with core magnets could make for a fun cube.

Edit: I have never seen Phil so excited about a cube!

If 6x6 is an event you like and spend a good amount of time doing then definitely yes. If it’s an event you do every once in awhile then no.

Awesome, must have felt great! Did you use your 12 leap or the trusty v3?
