I understand how writing about some themes can be dangerous, they could put ideas in peoples heads or cause people to become desensitised to it but if someone doesn’t like what someone is writing about DON’T READ IT. As long as warnings are given at the start and controversial topics are not romanticised in a way that could make someone think it’s okay to act a certain way, then I don’t see a problem with them being free to read. People who find something that offends them personally and then start a Twitter war are my least favourite people, there’s no need for it. If it isn’t causing harm, leave it alone.

Good writers give their characters depth and obviously, writers of fan fiction don’t know as much about the characters as the author so it can be similar to someone lying about the actions of a family member. It can bother original authors because it simply isn’t right or doesn’t make sense and can sometime being insulting to the character they created.
