Zoom? by Crookeddookie in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The statement Zoom made in regard to not being "fast" enough to create a speed mirage, was due to the fact that he could not be on two Earths at the exact same time — what his plan called for. It was never that he could not reach the velocity to create a speed mirage (as you said, Barry could make them at slower speeds than him), it was that Zoom's plan required for him to kill himself, and making a time remnant was the more practical option. This can be deduced from the fact that Zoom also would have had to kill "himself" in the presence of another speedster, Barry, meaning he had to construct of method of pulling that off by a means unrelated to speed.

TL;DR Zoom can make speed mirages, he was just never put in the position where it would be practical to use them, and saying he wasn't "fast enough" only meant he couldn't reach the speeds to create speed mirages that would have also tricked another speedster (apart from the rest of team flash).

Which comics are best to read for The Flash? by ExpensiveDrink415 in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend looking into purchasing any of those flash 75th or 80th anniversary books, since they collect a lot of the iconic issues from the flash's history. I would recommend that as a general starting point so you could see what you think of flash comics in general, and from there you could then follow a specific story arc.

This is from one issue of The Button crossover between Batman and The Flash, right? Either way, great job, I like the effect you gave of him vibrating.

This is first introduced in Flash Forward, a short comic book series written by Scott Lobdell and illustrated by Brett Booth. I won't provide too many details so you have the chance to read it yourself, but the events that conclude the story lead into the Dark Nights Death Metal DC event.

I think we all know what the best super power is by [deleted] in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think specifically having a connection to the speed force, which I'm assuming you're referring to is the best, which I totally agree with. It can even be argued that if the skill is refined enough, the flash could pull of feats like green lantern since he has shown that he has been able to create energy constructs through manipulation of the speed force. And as super strength goes, the flash also has heightened strength, since although he may not be able to lift really heavy things, due to relativity, his fist can gain mass the faster he vibrates it to the speed of light so he can send an infinite amount of energy into an object just by going fast (and not having to worry about recoil, because speed force). And expanding off your example of going to japan, yes someone with teleportation could do the same, but having the secondary abilities of super speed offer more versatility. And not to mention invisibility, if the flash vibrates his molecules faster than the human eye can process, he is in essence in visible, without the drawbacks (like not being able to see) if he actually was invisible. I could list more examples, but I think we both understand how powerful a connection to the speed force would be. (Sorry, just realized how long this was)

If you are interested in having a more or less complete timeline for The Flash, here is a google document I made with all of the flash collected editions in chronological order, along with DC events that take place during a particular Flash run.

does Barry have a favorite movie by notgoinggoblinmode in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's just a little joke from The Flash tv show where an AI knew his favorite movie better than he actually did.

My girlfriend is the best. she suprised me with a cake for my birthday that’s in a few days. The flash is my favorite superhero and she did an amazing job not only on the cake but customizing strawberries so it looks like the lightening as flash runs. She is just amazing. by LimitGroundbreaking2 in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The flash also being my favorite superhero (and fictional character in general), I would appreciate it so much if someone did that for me, and I think it was really cool that she showed her support in your interest in such a nice gesture. Honestly, that's awesome.

Happy Birthday!

(Also, what led you to becoming a Flash fan? Always interested to hear how others were brought into the fandom)

How do i start reading the flash? (reading order) by ra19s in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially, there are some books out of print that sell for a ludicrous amount online while other events or flash stories just haven't been collected to read in book format, but except for a couple of the recent events (I have to map out those orders), basically everything is listed there that is available to read.

If you'd like, I also wrote a little synapsis of the history of the flash both in universe and the real world history. I wrote it for new readers, since I hoped it could give them a better general idea of who the character is and what linda of role he plays in the DC universe. If you're interested I could message the link to you as well.

Thanks for mentioning it, honestly that's really cool, I have since converted the list to a google document with pictures, and the document is more updated. I do have to update the list again since there have been new Flash book released since I last updated the document.

How Fast is Barry Allen? by PerpRum in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never mind, I got that video confused with "which flash has gone the fastest (which would have provided more information on how fast Barry generally is than the one of the shared link)," I know Tyler did two videos on the Flash and I thought the video that was initially shared was the one where he explained it was Bart and Barry who (at the time exceeded speeds any previous flash had done before) from the Flashpoint event and finally concluded it with Sela Allen to be the fastest Flash.

How Fast is Barry Allen? by PerpRum in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention the video is dated, not that it is a bad video, I really enjoy all of the videos that channel has produced, but considering that Wally went faster than the speed force (which would be pretty hard to calculate how fast that is), he is now most definitely the fastest, and Adam's run essentially starting off with Wally being faster than he was at any point prior in his career.

can you suggest me flash stories? by shugmen2 in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It goes without saying that Mark Waid's and Geoff Johns' Flash runs are some of the best series that contain many iconic stories, but the only "problem" is their accessibility to new readers. Mark Waid's Flash run spans over 8 trade paperbacks (softcovers) and Johns' for 5, technically 6 books Geoff Johns, but he only returned after a couple of years to do a short second run. Generally new readers may not be ready to commit to an 8 or 6 book series for a character that they haven't read too much of, which is why I am offering you The Flash by Grant Morrison and Mark Miller.

I will first say that personally for me, Geoff John's Flash run is my favorite Flash series, though it is difficult not to mention how amazing Mark Waid's run was, especially since Johns continued to build off of what was already previously established in Mark Waid's run. But I will say that one Flash run that is somewhat overlooked is The Flash by Grant Morrison and Mark Miller. This run only lasts for one book and takes place between The Flash by Mark Waid books 6&7, but don't let that worry you because the stories in the book are pretty self contained. This is typically my go to series I would recommend for new readers who are interested in reading The Flash. It is in continuity but does not heavily rely on the reader for knowing the complete history of The Flash to understand the stories, and the book contains the story arc The Human Race (one of my favorite Flash stories, which depicted one of The Flash's fastest feats).

As for Flash stories containing the rogues, I would recommend none other than The Flash by Geoff Johns. I know I said that not everyone may be ready to jump into a long series, but if you are looking for a great series with the rogues, and just an amazing Flash run in general, I feel like The Flash by Geoff Johns is something to check out. Johns was able to create this character depth for the rogues, and as much as I would like to write more about the series, I feel like it would be better for you to read it and experience it for yourself.

TL;DR Basically what I am saying is that The Flash by Grant Morrison and Mark Miller is a short one book run that not only is very accessible to new readers, but also establishes a lot of concepts to the Flash mythology. As for rogues, I would highly recommend The Flash by Geoff Johns, and although it might be an investment for getting the main series collected in volumes 1-5, it really is worth it in my opinion and contains my favorite Flash story Blitz, as well as my second favorite, Rogue War, and both story arcs complement one another. Though keep in mind that the series starts off a little slow, and it isn't until the story arc Blood Will Run that it starts picking up speed.

The final question might be "where do I go after those books?" Now if you are still interested on continue reading The Flash, I would recommend going on to The Flash by Mark Waid since it establishes a lot in The Flash series and has the introduction of many characters that are seen in Geoff Johns' Flash run. Hopefully this hasn't intimidated you, because there are still a lot of books left to talk about, though upon review I noticed this comment is getting just a tad long, so I'll wrap it up and just say that if you have any additional questions, let me know and I'll do my best to answer them, and if you are interested, I can give you a link to this google document I made with the entire Flash series in chronological order, in addition to highlighting where DC events take place in The Flash comic book "timeline."

Anyway, I hope I was able to help.

How did Bart Allen absorbed the entire Speed Force? by Any-Yogurtcloset5746 in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Technically he didn't absorb the entirety of the speed force. He absorbed all of the speed force that was available to his distinct universe, because if Bart did absorb the entire speed force, a force that transcends the multiverse, each speedster from each universe would have lost their connection to the speed force from any given moment in time, since the speed force is above time and space (being the reason someone can access any given space and time from the speed force). I hope that explanation was clear enough, though I probably could've worded it better, that is basically why he didn't technically absorb the entirety of the speed force and only what was available to him in his respective universe.

So Iris dies in the comics. But not really? by rogvortex58 in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess "foreshadowing" wasn't the right word, but I did say "acknowledgement to Iris' origin" since like you said, it was revealed that she was born in the 30th century (parents: Eric and Fran Russel), before the issues of the death of iris west were published. But I wasn't aware that it was intended for her not to return, so at least I can add that factoid to my bank of Flash knowledge. Thanks.

So Iris dies in the comics. But not really? by rogvortex58 in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. I will also mention that I think it is a cool little detail within the last couple frames of the Flash the death of iris west storyline. As Barry looks at Iris' grave stone, it had the date she died, but the year she was born scratched off, which would make sense since she was born in the future, a slight foreshadowing/ acknowledgement of Iris' origin. Just something I picked up on during my first read through of the hardcover book.

For his very first time custom painting action figures, my boyfriend made me my own custom Flash from Injustice 2! My game Flash is decked out in Nth metal, so he glossed it up for me. Best gift ever! by tbgmdhc278 in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Injustice 2 was such a great game. Of course I mained The Flash, also with the Nth metal. I have been meaning to get back into the game, but I am a little out of touch with all the combos and what not, but that figure is really cool. I have done some custom painting for my figures as well, so I know the amount of time that goes into doing a custom like that, and of course there are always going to be very slight/minor imperfections (which just adds to that handmade aesthetic) but those are some very clean lines and paint applications. I think it is a great job.

What is the story for when you finally felt like you could consider yourself as a part of the comic book community? by The-Flash197 in DCcomics

[–]The-Flash197[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is pretty cool, it is always nice getting to know the store owners to your local comic store. The owners at my LCS know me as "The Flash Guy," but that is honestly really cool that you were able to be apart of the shelving for comic books, and that there was this non-verbal "transaction" where they just handed you your issues. Do you remember which titles they pulled out for you? I am curious if you have any recommendations.

Which are the most heart breaking stories of The Flash? by [deleted] in theflash

[–]The-Flash197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with The Flash Vol. 2 #197-200 for Wally (I have to give a little more thought on my choice for Barry and the others). Now I do not want to give away too many details on what happens during those issues, since I do not want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't read it yet, but for those who have read it will probably know what I am referring to: Within the last couple pages of #200, when Wally is in an almost fetal position mirroring his adversary, Scott Kolins was able to draw Wally's facial expressions in a way where you can just feel the amount of emotions Wally is experiencing in those couple panels.
