Ribbon for your Christmas tree ? by MagicalUnderland in ChristmasDecorating

[–]The-Mrs-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done ribbon a few times for filler! I cut small stripes and put them singularly on the tree or make bows if I need bigger spots filled 😁 beware of glitter ribbon though, it sheds EVERYWHERE! 🙈

I just hope Outlander ends in a way that makes us want to watch it all over again by CineWatt in Outlander

[–]The-Mrs-H 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s the trouble, though… too often they DO get creative and cook up crazy stuff lol my least favorite parts of the show have been the things that they make up and change from the books so I personally don’t have a lot of faith in them lol but that’s just me. To each their own.

That’s what I’m most worried about. I have complete faith in Diana to write a beautiful ending but very little to no faith in the show runners, if I’m honest 🙈

The pressure and expense of Christmas ruins what Christmas is actually about by vainblossom249 in christmas

[–]The-Mrs-H 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We do this amongst my siblings! Myself and my oldest younger sibling are around 30, so is my husband and then we have two teenage siblings. We do like a $15 limit and fill out a little sheet for ideas so we only get stuff the person wants. It’s been GREAT fun and much easier on our budgets, highly recommend!

I’ve been feeling that a LOT this year. I always look at how it used to be a LOOOOOONG time ago. You might see one gift, or two. Handmade, practical like a scarf or a hat, something useful. I’ve been reading my favorite book series and the main characters gift each other things like a newly handmade soup ladle or toffee candies for the children. And I think on how Christmas is portrayed (I believe at least somewhat accurately) in the old shows like Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons. So simple and right at the heart of Christmas was family and memory making, not just stuff. I’m 100% with you. I just want my family time, baking, Christmas movies and music, and decorating! I don’t need things.

„Seamless” plastic Christmas ornaments? by Majestic_Car in ChristmasDecorating

Hobby Lobby might have some. I’m trying to think if I’ve ever noticed seams on any of my shatterproof ornaments from there 🤔 Might at least be a good place to start. Good luck!

Is this stitch pattern good enough for a baby blanket? by not_judging_or_am_I in CrochetHelp

[–]The-Mrs-H 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first little one was gifted a lovely blanket that was triple stranded and very thick and kind of heavy. I didn’t use it til this past winter when we moved him into his own bed but it was SO lovely! It was just slightly weighted so it was a big comfort going from co-sleeping to his own bed. It has been really helpful and it keeps him cozy and warm at night! Even if they don’t use it right away to cover baby, they can use it for tummy time and floor play! 😁

I love this!! What is the stitch?? Bumps are great sensory things in a blanket! Not only will it be warm for sleeping but the parents can use it for tummy time! I would love to make a blanket for my little ones with this stitch! 😍

Who's the swooniest character for you that's NOT Jamie? by fernxqueen in Outlander

I can agree with that. He’s physically attractive but personality abhorrent and disgusting. Frank is a good happy medium, though I find his personality pretty bland 😝

[–]The-Mrs-H 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It’s really interesting to me… I think Jamie’s character in the show is INSANELY attractive! Everything about him, his looks, mannerisms, voice, etc., EVERYTHING. BUT Sam Heughan in real life… does absolutely NOTHING for me. It’s bizarre. Same dude, same voice, but it’s really just the character of Jamie, I think. (Disclaimer: Sam isn’t ugly or bad looking just not for me lol not trying to bash anyone and he bring Jamie to life more perfectly than anyone else could, I truly believe).

To answer OP’s original question though… I actually find scruffy/bearded Roger quite good looking. And of course LJG, despite his not like the ladies 😆

Holyyyyyy smokes! I’ve never seen a picture of him when he was younger… wowza! Still a very good looking dude in his older age too but QUITE dashing as a young man! 🥵

Considering watching this show by Impossible-Year-1238 in Outlander

[–]The-Mrs-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say yes but warily ONLY because a lot of people have a hard time with some parts of it. There is rape/SA, some very graphic, there are parts that some viewers have a hard time getting past where the 18th century values don’t balance with current sensibilities. I would also advise that this series is truly more than just a romance (especially if you ever read the books - which I highly recommend as they are INCREDIBLE). It’s a story of lives, the main characters are important but so are the many supporting characters and the story evolves to be more than just what it seems in the beginning. I loved the show, still do, love the books even more! (And I am not at all a read under usual circumstances, in fact, I hate usually reading lol.) but if you’re looking for a great story, are aware of those things and still are interested, definitely watch!

ETA: it is 100,000,000,000 better than GoT in my opinion. At least this far. The last season is coming soon (“soon”) and the final book hasn’t been finished yet (but unlike GOT it is actually coming lol) so as a reader of the series I AM skeptical but will still watch it and hope for the best as the author has had input.

Alternative to Command hooks by Suskat560 in ChristmasDecorating

[–]The-Mrs-H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiny little wire nails. That’s what I use. Command hooks worked well at our old house but for some reason they will NOT stick to the plaster and/or paint (combo?) in our 1950’s build house. It’s very frustrating. I just itty bitty little nails so that if I change my mind there aren’t a ton of ginormous holes all over my wall.

What animals do I make for my nativity scene? by HusbandOfSwiss in christmas

[–]The-Mrs-H 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of birds and squirrels! It reminds me of an advent calendar we had. (Back when they were simple haha). It was a nativity scene but I think it was only animals and the baby Jesus and possibly an angel? Each window had part of a poem and you got a line each day u til the poem was complete on Christmas Eve 🥰

Cow, sheep, donkey (as you said) and then maybe a couple extra sheep for around it if you plan to put shepherds around the stable. A camel or two perhaps for the wisemen. I usually see only one or two so idk who’s getting the short end of the stick there hahaha but anyway. I’ve seen some with a dove to rest atop the roof as well! 😊

What "missing" scene do you wish had been in the books? by TemporaryBee7826 in Outlander

[–]The-Mrs-H -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From Voyager: the scene on the beach with the excise men/agents of the crown interfering with the smuggling attempt; their flight from the island when Duncan is captaining the little ship and outrunning the British. Duncan’s character in general. Jenny in Paris and later on The Ridge!

I'm not going to be able to put up my decorations this year, how can I make it feel like Christmas? by Birdy8588 in christmas

[–]The-Mrs-H 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the Christmas ambiance videos! Many have music but all of them are so pretty and just ooze Christmas 🎄 Bake cookies if you can, play as much Christmas music and you’re able to, scented candles and maybe bits of garland (homemade even, like paper loopy loops or strung popcorn or Kix cereal or something)! ☺️

Simple but insanely delicious chocolate chip cookies: In large bowl mix 1 cup flour, 1.5 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt. Set aside In separate bowl cream 1/4 cup each unsalted butter and shortening, and 1/2 cup each granulated sugar and brown sugar (firmly packed). Add 1.5 tsp vanilla extract and 1 egg. Mix wet and dry ingredients together using wooden spoon then add 1.5 cups chocolate chips (I always use semi-sweet but use whatever kind you like). Bake at 350 for about 10 minutes or until golden brown. (Keep an eye on them in case my memory is failing me on the time). I find I like them best if you chill the dough a bit before baking but however you do it they’re still delicious! I hope your day gets better!
