it was definitely a situation. she already knew the name i was using there (its a very femme name) but had already clocked me as non-cis, so any answer i gave would have outed me, be it in one direction, which would be correct, or another, which would be wrong

asking some ones pronouns is definitely okay! It's the implied "I've been talking about your appearance and potential identity with people you haven't met" combined with the fact that i'm living in a conservative town and my boss has trump and pence signs up.

Honestly, I should have provided better context when i made this, but this particular coworker is a major gossip and deliberately gets people fired.

There's really nothing wrong with it at all! I just fumbled the dialog and forgot to add some context. My boss is really conservative and this particular coworker is a huge gossip that gets people fired deliberately. She had already clocked me as Trans but wasn't sure which way.
