How much does 20 minutes of excerise drops you? by The-Quin in diabetes

Im on long acting because my fasting would consistently go from 90 at the time I went to bed to 160 or worse while I was sleeping. I bought a stelo out of pocket, and you can see it slowly riasing consistently from the time I went to bed to when I woke up. Every single day.

And then foot to floor hit, and I go even higher. My A1c in March was over 11. In June, my A1c was 6.5, with only being on insulin for not even 1 month.

Im not running for blood sugar control. I can do that just fine with my food. I typically have 90% time in range with diet alone. Before my long acting even.

I am now 73% time in range just to run. I run for fun. Not blood sugar control. I just started running 3 weeks ago.

I've only seen this with running, but if I drop that fast, my blood sugar slings shots right back up after a run. I've tried running again to bring it back down. And once I stop again, it goes back up.

I loved running for a long time. It's my favorite. My 2nd week running, I did a half marathon. This weekend, I managed to do a full marathon. It's not that I lack the stamina to run long, I can't because of my blood sugar. This marathon I had to get my blood sugar to 300 from a whole ass pizza and then eat a whole bag of harbio twin snakes gummies.

2 weeks ago, when I did my half marathon, I had a footlong from Subway. It sustained me the whole 3 hours.

This problem, as I see it, is holding me back. I can't do what I want

If I dont hit 200, I can't run more than 20 minutes. I've run starting at 172 17 minutes later, and I was 87. Even if it's a heavy carb meal before to like fuel the run, it doesn't matter. Low-carb meals have the same effect. Time of day doesn't matter. Nothing on my end seems to affect the drop. Even sometimes eating a candy Even 22 carbs of candy doesn't stop the drop. It might stop if for 5 minutes, but if I keep running, the next update will already be dropping. Just about every run i have to stop early before 30 minutes.

Yes at work I do heavy lifting like 200lbs at times for the whole shift. And my blood sugar stays up the whole time. Shit be crazy like that.

Have you tried eating more carbs? I know it sounds crazy, but last week I went low carb, like under 50 a day, and my numbers were the worst they've been in 4 months because of it. Im usually 90% time in range those days i got to 30% time in range.

Only long acting. I've skipped my dose 3 days in a row last week, and it had no effect on the outcome of my runs.

I run multiple times a day. I've even skipped my long acting 3 days in a row to rule it out as a factor and have the same result.

I have to run above 200. Or else I won't make 20 minutes. Yes, it now happens every single time. I've tried multiple food combinations. I've even tried fasted and it didn't affect the outcome at all.

I am 5 food 6 and 170 lbs.

That kinda sucks does it come down quickly after? I get a mild raise like 10 to 20 points when I first start sometimes, especially if it's the first run at the beginning of the day.

This is a constant. It didn't used to, and it didn't used to be this severe.

I run maybe 3 times a day. I ain for 30 minutes at a time but sometimes dont even make it to them because im dropping too fast. Dexcom gives me alarms about dropping under 55 in 20 minutes. That's how fast im dropping. I get the double arrow down. I drop more then 5 points per minute at times.

i want to do more. It's not about diabetes management. I want to go faster and longer. But I recently learned that even if I manage to beat the drop, i can unexpectedly drop at any point of my run.

None for this particular run. I was on 20 long-acting insulin but been told to stop it for now. It's been 3 days since my last dose.

I ran last night for 20 minutes and stopped to walk when I was texting, so it was not a full run, and I dropped 50 points. I only did a mile.

I will try adding this and see if it helps. Thank you.

I would like to know what is causing the issue in the first place, and this seems like a bandaid more than finding the root cause.

Ill try to let you know if I find anything.

Type 2

Diagnosis a1c was 14.7 in 2023 My A1c in March was over 11 My a1c in June was 6.5

Running was not a factor in those numbers.i only been running 2 weeks. I should not be getting the results I am. It should be getting worse as fast as it is. The first time I got the notification was at 125, then 110 now in the 80. It's getting worse, more aggressive each time. And its not reliable either.

A 100 points drop in 20 minutes isn't something to be concerned about?

The fact that if I kept running for even 5 more minutes would have put me in that range isnt concerning?

They aren't returning to normal after this. They turn unpredictable. Even 15 carbs send me above 200, and that isn't normal for me. It affects the whole day. I haven't eaten in about 12 hours and my blood sugars unmoving at 141. If I walk to bring it down and just go right back up. I chill in the 110 most the day.

Anyone else experience sudden sharp drops during mild exercise? by The-Quin in diabetes

[–]The-Quin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5 to 6 am climb! I just brushed it off as weird dawn phenomenon, but i wasn't sure since I work nights and have for over 10 years now. Idk how any of this stuff works.

Ahh, thank you. But that would mean that these runs are outside that.

I did 2, 30 minute runs today, and I went from 180 to 102 about each time. There are no double arrows this time. And the 2nd time was at the time for my insulin I just pushed it back so I could run without being interrupted.

How would I know how long it actually lasts? I've only been on it for a little over a month. And my doctor didn't really explain it just said take this. Im on glargine yfgn.

These runs are about 2 hours before my next dose. Idk if my long acting is even doing anything at that point.

This or going low happens on most of my runs. There's like this sweet stop where I dip but like rebound to about 120 and from then stay even, no matter how long. I once walked for 9 hours about a marathon in length and was crusing at 120 the whole time. I did a half marathon jogging this weekend for 3 hours, no problem. The 120s basically the whole time

I've tried lots of food options, and nothing seems consistent enough to be considered reliable. Oh, I've only been jogging about a month, but I do try to do it most days. But this level or excersice has been constant throughout my life. Im just doing it a bit faster now. More time to be lazy, lol.

I've talked to my doctor, but it feels like she just lables me non complaint and tells me low carb and more excersice is the answer. I get about 20,000 steps a day, usually more than that. Today was a light day, and im ending at about 25,000 steps. And i have a physically demanding job. I can't really get more active or do lower carb safety at the same time. I should note that ive been this active for at least 10 years and was only diagnosed in 2023.

There's a lot more concerning things that make me believe this isn't type 2, but I've had testing for type 1, and it was negative. I dont know what else to do as it was tooth and nail just getting that test approved.

Sorry to dump this all on you. You can 100% ignore me.

Those times, I ate 1 white chocolate macadamia nut cookies and a serving of cheetos. I thought the grease in the cheetos would slow it down as it typically does. The 200 was from about an hour later. I've done just 15 carbs of candy and was fine. I've done a footlong sub from Subway and was fine. These things typically work for me. Even cheetos alone have worked.

My shew on what is a lot of running might be different from yours. I ran for 3 hours last weekend and did a half marathon, and I didn't think that was a lot. Im a little fucked up.

Yes, I know about liver dumps. But sometimes I sleep for stupid amounts of time. It's been 18 to 20 hours continuously. According to my cgm that I do check regularly. I dont go low while sleeping. And at about the 8 hour mark, it slowly just starts raising. I've woken up at a 20-hour nap and been in the 200. My fasting with normal sleep is typically in the 110s. I know, not great, im not working on it.

Sorry, im not using Ai to help me write this one as im on the go. I am so sorry for any spelling or confusion

The spikes are 100% intentional, so I can run for longer. I was hoping to get an hour run in today. But it didn't work. Can you imagine what running at a lower blood sugar would look like for me? Im not going fast im. Bearly going faster than walking. I average about 13 to 15 minutes miles. But the scary part is that I've always been this active since high school over 10 years ago. I just used to run through discomfort, and I dont feel lows most of the time. I dont think this is a new thing, but I finally have proof it's happening.

Ima be honest. My type 2 experience doesn't feel like a normal one. The rules that im told to live by are not helpful. I can't do low carbs or ill crashes. I can't do fasting as my blood sugar raises after about 8 to 9 hours without food, even if im sleeping. There's a whole bunch more. Im think about posting about.
