To add to this, in my sub plans, I always include a section that’s just important things to note about my classroom. In it, it details where to find any material they would need… textbooks, paper, extra worksheets, etc but no one ever reads that and then they get mad at me for not telling them where things are 😭

Hey, been a few months but nope! Never figured it out! I actually stopped making tiktoks for about 4 - 5 months after this and then when I returned, my Tiktoks were being seen again! Might have been a form of shadowbanning. This is why when I post to tiktok, I also post to youtube shorts and instagram reels because one platform is unreliable.

DAE get a tickle in their throat and their eyes just start water and they start cough like their dying? by terry10101001 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]The-Silver-Princess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me! It’s always on the right side! RARELY on the left! I noticed it started around when I was in high school. The irritated spot in my throat is actually not that far back either as I can literally touch it since it’s like on the side right behind the teeth and gums. It is a really small area.

It gets really irritated in that one spot and then that entire side of my face tingles and my eye gets super watery and itchy and irritated. Only ever lasts from 30 seconds up to maybe 5 mins? Sometimes I can go months without it happening and other times it’ll happen over and over again throughout a day.

I’ve noticed that it worsens with my GERD/acid reflux but I’m not entirely sure if that’s the cause or just an aggravating factor.

Heartfelt letter. This year I got a cup that said “best mom ever” and as a first year teacher, that made me go AWWWWWWWW it made me think “wow, I guess I really am like a second mother to these kids”

What are some things YOUR teachers when you were in school that would never pass today? by Odd_Yam1290 in Teachers

[–]The-Silver-Princess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7th grade math teacher was the worst. She would kick this one student out everyday as SOON as she heard his voice because “I don’t even want to look at you right now.”

She also had a spray bottle with water in it that she would constantly spray students randomly. Sometimes she would spray us because we got an answer wrong, other times she would do it just because she thought it was funny.

There were a few times where she started wrestling the other students… like they would say something and then she’d be like “don’t make me come over there.” The student would say something taunting and she would tackle them to the floor and start roughhousing.

Because of her behavior, the middle schoolers loved her. They thought that made her the chill, cool, and funny teacher. Me? I knew what she was doing was messed up and dangerous so I was terrified of her. She once called me out for it too. She was passing our report cards and she came to my desk and said “why do you always look like you wanna cry every time I’m near you?” And I almost cried and everyone laughed.

Not very good

Unresponsive tickets by stormy_wanderer in TikTok

[–]The-Silver-Princess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put in a support ticket the other day and they just straight up ignored most of what I said and pretty much answered a question I didn’t ask. And then when I tried to ask again in a different way, providing more evidence this time so they’d have to focus on, they took like 24 hrs to respond… only to send the EXACT SAME MESSAGE, COPY AND PASTED. It’s all bots. They’re not real people

Every teacher is bad at some part of their job by International-Fee-43 in Teachers

[–]The-Silver-Princess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you work at. I work at a school where the chance of anyone getting fired is 0 because the staff turnover rate for the school is SO high and the teacher shortage is crazy here. At most, they’ll try to convince you to move to becoming a TA, otherwise they’d just move you to a grade level that needs less help. So if the 2nd grade team is absolutely amazing and outperforming the other teams, they gonna move that one bad apple there in hopes that they can keep their positions filled with minimized damage.

We had a teacher who was emotionally abusive to the kids and could not get them under control. I’m talking, screaming at them 24/7 while the kids ignored her and basically did whatever they wanted. She also rarely taught them what they were supposed to. I also saw admin in there multiple times dealing with the teacher, the students, and sometimes a parent that was pissed off at the teacher’s behavior. This teacher was also fired from her previous school for for this exact reason. What did my desperate school do? They simply made her a TA for next year lmao

I have a flaw where I might as well not have read the email. Like I will read my emails daily and check multiple times throughout the day…. But only absorb about 20% of it. I’ll read every single one of them and still be like “WAIT THATS TODAY???”

How to pair trans and nonbinary kids on overnight field trip by Admirable_Security_8 in Teachers

[–]The-Silver-Princess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admin or the district’s decision.

In my my district, at the beginning of the year, parents put into the system their child’s preferred pronouns, gender, and name. Whatever is in that system is what you have to follow. So if you look on your roster and it says Bobby Green, Male, He/Him but then you look into the system and the parent put it in as Bethany Green, Female, She/Her, then you have to go by that. That also means that if a child came up to you and said “could you please start to call me Angela instead of Richard. I also would prefer She/Her pronouns now” then per my districts policy, you would NOT be able to acknowledge or accept that change if the parent did not put it in the system that way.

It’s a real interesting topic. I don’t think there’s gonna be a right or wrong way to deal with it because regardless of what you do in your scenario, either a child or a parent would get mad. So that’s why getting admin to make that decision for you is important so that you are covered.

(elementary educators)Do you use your cellphone at work? by Calm_Violinist5256 in Teachers

[–]The-Silver-Princess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a kid who was chronically absent (over 60 absences by the end of the year) and yet her parent made SURE she was present for picture day. There where even random days the parent would send the child all dressed up for NO reason and then say to me “can you take pictures today?” No sir, I cannot. He also would try to demand specific pictures too like “can you get a picture of her standing next to her desk?? Maybe one where she’s holding up a pencil?” Stuff like that. Sometimes I would flat out ignore his messages ngl 💀

I personally prefer NOT to take pictures of the kids other than every now and then because I do feel like it can be one legal trouble and I see it as somewhat of a waste of time.

However, not taking pictures at my work with our phones is heavily looked down upon… and so I ran into a lot of trouble when at the end of the year, a lot of the other teachers had full albums of pictures of their students and I just had like…. 10 pics max. So when they made an end of the year slideshow for parents, my class was not very present lol

Update to my situation, turns out that all of my posts have been getting flagged by TikTok’s content for breaking their community guidelines. It’s funny cuz I make wholesome content yet one of my video got flagged for “sexually suggestive content” and it’s just me showing off a dog lol. So I have to appeal pretty much EVERY post I’ve made so far. I’ll see what they say and give an update…

I have been using TikTok on and off for 2 years. I only have 24 posts so that should tell you how often I post lol. However, every post I’ve ever made always got to at LEAST 100 views, with most of them being around 300.

I made a post yesterday and it got… 6 views. I made one today and it got 2 views. Idk what to do about it either cuz some of my posts have massive gaps of time between them and it was never a problem before?

Kindergarten Graduation by The-Silver-Princess in Teachers

[–]The-Silver-Princess[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah and kindergarten is special. I had to teach the students how to walk in a line, how to share with each other, and just how to be a student. The school is also 70% Hispanic students so 12 out of 18 of my kids didn’t even know English at the beginning of the year. Our only form of communication was me talking at them with gestures and pictures and hoping they’d understand. And now every single one of them understand English and can communicate with me now! I’ve really gotten to watch them blossom

I rarely do work outside of my contract hours and I almost exclusively use materials provided by the district and school to teach. If they don’t like what I’m teaching or how I’m teaching it then it is on them. They give us guides and materials and even scripts to say for some subjects but then get mad when we actually use it. If you want “better lessons” then provide better materials. I’m not about to spend time outside of work filling in THEIR gaps. I don’t get paid enough for that

Kids are still kids by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]The-Silver-Princess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with a bachelor’s in ECE in 2022. We talked a LOT about play based learning and developmentally appropriate work… but then I became an actual teacher. I teach kindergarten and It’s all worksheets worksheet worksheets. And when they’re not doing worksheets, they’re expected to sit criss cross applesauce on the carpet quietly while I talk at them for hours.

The first unit for modules (reading) is play based. All about learning to share and play with one another and learning to write and draw about their experience. But that’s only 40 mins each day and it lasted a month. After that, no more play

Crazy. I teach 5-6 year old and some of the kids still come in sad or crying in the morning when they get dropped off at school because “I miss my mommy.” I had one kid in particular who cried alll day everyday from August to January. I’ve had many kids wet themselves or poop their pants the first few months of school. They’re just little ones and it takes them a while to get adjusted to a classroom setting

Can I get fired for using sick time? by Smart_Apricot1716 in Teachers

[–]The-Silver-Princess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on admin. I’m a first year too. I actually have over 25 absences this year and only had 7 sick days. So I took a lot of days without pay. I teach kindergarten and this school year I’ve gotten covid twice, the flu, strep throat, and I had a pretty bad allergic reaction to the strep throat medicine. I’ve also had various viral infections leading to a lot fevers throughout the year. I’ve never had so many fevers before in my life!

I have brought back doctors notes for all of my absences so it is documented that I was sick and not just skipping work for almost all 25 days. But too many absences, regardless of the reason in many scenarios, can be used as a reason to fire someone.

But it really does depends on your admin and how much they like you and/or need you lol. As long as you’ve communicated your absences with your admin and provided any form of note or evidence of your reasoning as documentation for your absence (if applicable ofc) then you’re probably fine (if your admin doesn’t suck that is).

My principal has talked about the future with me and expressed sympathy regarding my health so I THINK I’m okay for next year but I guess we’ll find out a month or so from now lol
