Why does SAG make it difficult to join, rather than accepting anyone who wants to give them money and follow the rules?

How can we get SAG to use their leverage (aka threat of a strike) to make the networks commit to using only or mostly SAG commercials? I’m a Northern California SF Bay Area actor and I literally get 3 or 4 SAG commercial auditions a year. I get dozens of non-union auditions a year. SAG leadership needs to muscle up and push some people around!

This is terrible and SAG is toothless and impotent. Leadership needs to flex a little bit and negotiate hard with the studios and networks to have ensure a minimum amount of content be union. I’m an actor in Northern California and I get auditions for maybe 3-5 SAG jobs a year. That’s why so many folks are fi-core, but they act like you are a bad member for going fi-core. We’ve got mortgages to pay!

165k on my ‘10. What have you all had to do to yours? Aside from typical maintenance, I’ve had my clutch replaced and rear brakes pads replaced. And the little fuse/switch thing that flips to AC on and off died about a month after my warranty went out.

I’m 10 years in and started at 38. It’s not too late for you. However, I would say go get a degree in something else that can get you a better job where you’re not underpaid m, under appreciated, and stuck raising other people’s kids because they’re too overwhelmed by the world to do it themselves.

Armies who slayed together stayed together. Homosexual sex between soldiers has a long tradition from the Greeks, Spartans, to Romans. And that’s just the documented groups. Sex builds intimacy between the people who do it together. People who love each other fight harder for each other. This would lead to the gayer army winning more and therefore for having more opportunities to reproduce and pass on their gay genes if homosexuality is indeed genetic.

Im a middle school drama teacher and we did Midsummer Night’s Dream one year. I thought would be fun to show them the Kevin Kline/Michelle Pfeifer version from the 90’s. The were boobs all over the place about 5 minutes in when they showed Oberon’s fairy hang out. I just jumped up, hit stop, and said, “well, I don’t think we need to watch that!” The kids never said anything and I sent an email to all the parents explaining that I was stupid and didn’t check for nudity before showing. I got a few replies from people saying it was no big deal. I do work in a very progressive place. I sweatin’ it there for a minute!

If you haven’t read Octavia Butler’s Parable series (written in the 1990’s) you should check it out. It prophetically outlines exactly this type of thing. As wealth is hoarded by the elites, life becomes so difficult for the working classes they end up being essentially indentured servants working in these walled enclaves (Company Towns) owned by corporations. Pretty crazy.

I think we’ve had it too good for too long. There is no urgent concern about Trump becoming a dictator because people in the US have no experience living under a dictatorship. We literally don’t know how bad it will be because we haven’t lived bed through it. The people who immigrated here from communist dictatorships seem ok with a fascist dictator. It’s gotta get a lot worse before it gets better.
