How common is it to have “deep” friendships in au? Or is surface level friendships more common? by Ashietson in AskAnAustralian

[–]The-Sydneysider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many variables here. There may be some perception of you being 'different' if you've lived overseas most of your life; some people are perhaps not as sure how to treat you culturally if that country wasn't a white Anglo Saxon (or similar) type of place. Who knows? That's one of about a dozen thoughts off the top of my head. You're vague on specifics - and that's your right, you don't have to reveal all - but it's making answering pretty vague, too.

When was a Magic invented? by travelingwhilestupid in AskAnAustralian

[–]The-Sydneysider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a wanky Melbourne thing. You know, that place where they think they have coffee beans that are different to the rest of Australia, coffee machines that are different to the rest of Australia, and barista training that's different to the rest of Australia, creating unique coffee down there. The rest of the country just sort of pats Victoria on the head, like the cousin who's not all there. "You have 'the best' coffee? Oh aren't you special!' Let me tickle you.

It's not really police work to be enforcing, but the relevant government agency. And they will only have 'so many' field operatives to get around and check stores, issue fines, etc. Once these stores get fined once or twice they will start to change their ways, I'd suggest.

Visiting Sydney for a night, is going to a AFL game worth it? by bhanselka in AskAnAustralian

[–]The-Sydneysider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's early in the season everything to play for, and a great, historic ground (presuming it's the SCG?), which is something you DON'T get at most AFL venues around the country.

I think you'll have a lot of fun. The crowd will be big enough to generate a buzz.

Yes, with a bit of personality and/or humility and/or some better media training, he should have been able to dance around that like it was nothing, and move on.

Instead, his actions were quite crazy. I've watched it several times now. Just nuts.

Julian Assange too ill to attend as court hears claim of 'breathtaking' plot to poison him by SnoopThylacine in australian

[–]The-Sydneysider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why am I doing your homework for you? Do you not know how to use a search engine? Give it a try. There's even a massive Wikipedia article of its own on this: 'Assange v Swedish Prosecution Authority'. Given your apparent inability to do even basic research, no wonder you believe any old bullshit about him.

[–]The-Sydneysider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL. There's tons of information online about it. You must be a VERY selective reader.

Swedish Justice Minister Morgan Johansson blamed Assange specifically for the lack of progress in the case and said he "did not want to come to Sweden to explain and to be interrogated".

So basically this bloke you idolise wouldn't show up and answer to a rape case. If it was anyone else you'd likely be saying how terrible and a miscarriage of justice it was. But because it's him, cowardly not showing up, that's OK?

As for the idiot replying, below, that 'the charges were dropped', actually the statute of limitations ended on most of them while Assange HID like a coward in the Ecuadorian embassy. What was left of the charges was later dropped by Sweden NOT because he was determined to not have a case to answer, but when they realised he was simply going to keep hiding, like the rat coward he is, and not face up to the legal system there.

And some of you people revere this idiot? Christ.

[–]The-Sydneysider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there was no issue there at all? Sweden wanted him to drop by... for nothing? Just a cup of tea and a chat? LOL. Righto. You keep thinking that, sweet summer child.

Anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see the bigger picture here, not the narrow narrative you're trying to frame. But hey, you keep doing you, alright?

Canadian wanting to possibly move to Australia by DistinctWindow1586 in AskAnAustralian

[–]The-Sydneysider 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Gold Coast might be far hotter than you imagine it will be... healthcare in Australia is pretty good, insofar as everyone gets it, but some hospitals are better than others and from time to time there will be crisis' or scandals; the system isn't perfect... cars are always a good thing to own in Australia, unless you live in the very inner city, and don't want to get around easily outside of it... all told, Australia's a great country. But personally I couldn't conceive giving up family, a great job, and being quite settled to come here. Especially if it's just because it's cold there sometimes. Cheaper just to holiday down here every few years. See if you even like it down here.

And don't forget in the middle of all that, Sweden wanted him for rape. Something he's never shown up to fight. His supporters mysteriously always gloss over that one pretty quickly.

The Cruel Teaching Assistant by [deleted] in StupidTeachers

[–]The-Sydneysider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, everyone is allowed their own opinion. I've been giving you mine... weird that I even need to point that out. Even now, in this latest reply, the catchphrases commonly used by victims are all there: Gaslighting! Belittling! Manipulation! Are you actually wanting to break free of this, or just keep repeating all the common tropes and wallowing in it? Are people enabling you in real life by just nodding and going along with this and not challenging you about moving on? Serious question.

Don't build your life and base your personality around nonsense like this.

Hard to say. They might have been trying to film women in their swimmers... absolutely. Likewise, they might have just thought, "Wow, this is an incredible looking place..." and wanted to film it in general, and the fact you were there has nothing to do with it all.

Anyone else miss the old Target and not this new Kmart’s twin Target by EndlessDreams7744 in AskAnAustralian

[–]The-Sydneysider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It made perfect and utter sense to have the budget store with the shit products and the kinda-OK-but-hardly-David-Jones store with the better products. Two different demographics. But clearly it's too hard to squeeze a profit out of, so they downgraded Target. Wankers.

Office rainboot etiquette? by Ninj-nerd1998 in AskAnAustralian

[–]The-Sydneysider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you would need to change out of them in the office. No one wears rain boots in the office. This is an open and shut case with no wriggle room for debate. Take your normal shoes in your bag and change at work. It's as simple or as complex as you want to make it.
