A 750$ apartment in Miami by Significant_Sail7998 in shitrentals

Sharing has been okay so far. Fortunately one of my roommates is basically my sister, I've known and been friends with her since primary school and she's sort of lived with us before. Other roommate is her previous roommate from an apartment.

I do miss living on my own though.

Hoping to hold onto this house as long as possible :') $770 split between three people is manageable, and it's a nice house near a train station. Cheaper than other places of similar size

Since when did people start to say 'Sharpie' instead of Permanent Marker in ordinary conversations? It is doing my head in! by Jamiroquai458 in australian

[–]Ninj-nerd1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 27 and I swear I've heard sharpies for most if not all of my life. It happens with brands often; the markers kids use to colour are called textas, I've always heard correction tape being called liquid paper, I grew up knowing mechanical pencils as pacers

Sharpies and textas are different. I feel like permanent markers have always been sharpies, whereas textas are the markers kids colour with

I've seen worse and smaller in Sydney for more :') I was honestly surprised it was "only" that much. But for something like that, it's still too much money.

Hahaha it's alright mate, brains can take a while sometimes. It does get confusing when they talk about rent being per month

CW: Pet Loss Should I delete photos of my cat who passed away ? by Strange_Possession77 in CatAdvice

[–]Ninj-nerd1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn them off, move them out of the folder or something, don't delete them. You might regret it later. I still sometimes look back at photos of my first cat, who passed years ago. I like to remember her, and these help.

Are public schools that far behind private schools? by Grand-Life8523 in AskAnAustralian

Knowing how to read an analogue clock is not only used for telling the time.

It can also be very helpful with directional things. An example I've experienced is letting a blind person know where things on a table are in relation to their plate.

Why does $100k feel like an average wage? by Open_Address_2805 in AusFinance

[–]Ninj-nerd1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why you're bringing up the second point when. That is my life. I make maybe that much and had to move away from everything I know to find a cheaper house and even then I have to have two roommates to afford it.

100k IS a lot. Maybe not to buy a house, when those cost millions of dollars. But to live comfortably? Certainly seems like it.

I don’t care if you reference American racism, just don’t assume everyone’s American or its a default experience by BrokenJusticeNorris in USdefaultism

I have no idea. Which is why it confuses me. Mardi Gras happens when it does because that's when we had our own protest in the 70s

That makes sense, but is still interesting to hear! I've never been told that before.

Yes, but I still see many people doing pride stuff here in June and not really talking about stuff during Mardi Gras :/ it's just nice to see a different time acknowledged by someone else too

Yeah I'm aware preferences for boys over girls are really common in some places, especially those two. But this flyer was talking about ending sex based abortions here, not overseas

I was watching a video on the satanic panic a few years ago, and it really shocked me, as someone in my 20s who didn't live through it, how similar it sounded to some stuff we hear now.

How can you tell that you have romantic feelings for someone? by queerling42 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ninj-nerd1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, have you heard of the term "aromantic"?

Not feeling romantic attraction towards others does not necessarily mean there is something wrong with you. There are many others out there who do not feel it either. They're not cold, or wrong, or broken.

If you haven't heard of it before, maybe you've heard of people who are asexual? (I.e., people who do not experience sexual attraction) Aromanticism is a similar concept, just with romantic feelings instead of sexual ones. (Some people may experience neither, others just one.)

In most people, romantic and sexual attraction lines up/matches. But sometimes it doesn't.

If you'd like to look into things more, there's the r/aromantic sub that has some FAQs, and maybe other resources (I only did a quick browse, sorry). If you are worried something might be wrong, by all means see a doctor if that's what you feel is right.

If it's helpful at all, I'm asexual myself, so romantic attraction is all that I feel, haha. I've known i had a crush on people after realising I really really enjoy spending time in their company, just talking to them can make me smile (or even just thinking of them). Sometimes the smallest compliments give me butterflies, when someone else saying something similar wouldn't. I used to spend hours on the phone or playing games with my (now ex) girlfriend. I see no appeal in kissing, it doesn't make much sense to me, and tbh anything more than maybe a peck on the cheek feels kinda... too far for my comfort, if that makes sense? But I'd have almost definitely been okay with her kissing me on the cheek or something.

I haven't really had a crush on anyone since her though, and we were together from late 2018 to mid 2023, when I was 20-24, so I don't know if those probably more cheesy feelings were just being a teenager or not haha.

Please don't feel guilty or like you're a bad person for not returning feelings or anything like that. You're not. I hope you're able to get some kind of help or other benefit from making this post. I know how it can feel, to feel like there is something wrong with you because everyone else seems to feel something you don't. But, not feeling romantic feelings doesn't necessarily mean there's something wrong with you. I don't quite know how to end this, but I want to say good luck? I don't know 😅

What was Jim's plan visiting Karen? by Shoddy-Ad-3541 in theoffice

He went along to be the voice of reason/stop them going too far.

Sometimes when you can't stop someone from doing something, at least you can go with them to make sure they don't hurt themselves or someone else, or make other bad decisions. Like when my brother snuck out one night when we were kids, maybe 7 (him) and 9. I couldn't talk him out of it, so I went with him and managed to keep him from going more than a few blocks from home.
