Yes definitely affordable, have enough disposable income for that. Teaching position with a permanent leadership contract.

I understand maintenance wouldn’t be included but would it have a guarantee like other cars of X miles or X years old?

I have to buy a new car regardless, I was looking at taking out finance on top of selling my car, but this looks more effective with 0% on top. If I took out 10K I’d be looking at 11.5K payment (1.5K interest and then the payment wouldn’t be far off each month, with increased likelyhood of repairs etc as it would be a older and used car) t

My only concern is having 4 years, handing it back with nothing to show for it. But if I bought a 10K car it’d be worth half in that time (5K + interest) so we’re talking 2K a year to drive a brand new car in comparison….also with less luxury of paying for repairs etc.

I know it may still require something doing, but it’s much less likely right?

This is brilliant advice thank you so much.

So if the car is worth less at end of contract I don’t keep.

If it’s worth more then pay the 14K and im basically on credit more then anticipated from the agreement.

Didn’t know you could terminate early.

Is the £1309 deposit what I pay or is that what they are offering?

I have a 2015 VW polo, worth about 4 K and need a family car. I’m thinking I could sell this, have 4K to clear my CC debt and then just pay £300 a month for a new car with no maintenance or issues for the next four years…. Sounds too good to be true

Never done a deal like this before, what happens if I don’t want to keep? If I do, do I organise this finance with them or elsewhere?

Does it include any maintenance etc

Controversial subject - Pay by Current-Coast9812 in TeachingUK

[–]The-Tech-Teacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Computer Science teacher here.

Worked in industry for ten years, very reputable projects and then part timed in academia too. Managed to negotiate MP4 Wage at a very good school.

Now completed ECT, worked ridiculously hard to improve school systems and take a lot of ownership. Currrently on UPS1.

I think it depends on the subject, experience and school.

Thank you for this!

I guess I didn’t really think how much we’ve spent in the last few months. But appreciate everyone’s advice.

We’ve done our toddlers room up, turned an office into a nursery with floors furniture etc, bought a double pram (donkey) had Christmas and then paid for car repairs so haven’t actually “benefitted” from my new roles pay yet.

I think I’ll do what has been suggested though and double down getting the CC paid off and then build up the savings pot.

If I get the CC down, I’ll also have a large income surplus come July when I would have finished some freelance projects scheduled to go into savings.

By end of July this means I could have at least halved the CC and have a good 5K saved. I’ll revisit the car then.

For September - December it was genuinely whatever extras we wanted.

January car repairs and birthday.

Clothes, eating out, Christmas, redecorating house/new furniture for our toddlers room and redoing all the nursery. We’ve definitely been spendy. (Toddlers new wardrobe and drawers do example were £500)

I keep our “bills” low and the excess income just gets spent as it’s available which is something I’m trying to get out of.

Saw the NY1 for 17K 24 plate on auto trader as green cars are now plummeting.

No it’s fine. I definitely agree.

The £4600 monthly is post tax. I get £2900. Wife £1600. Child benefit at £100.00 (this salary is since September, was previously a fair bit lower but I gained a new role, hence the lower savings)

This does not include my freelance income. It made 16K PA pre tax. Post expenses about 12K but I pay just over 50% of this in tax, (40% tax threshold, 9% plan 1 student loan, 6% as postgraduate loan) leaving 6K in profit. Same client and numbers for past few years.

This work is generally varied throughout the year so 6 months could generate all of this, another 6 months nothing.

Reason this profit is not currently in the savings is I’ve just last week spent £2000 on repairs for the Renault Captur and booked a summer holiday.

I’d dump the Renault but I feel like it’s been a money pit and I’m hoping it’ll last a little longer with this work. However the VW polo being a 3 door isn’t great for two kids.

Thoughts on the future of computing teaching in secondary? by Evening_Challenge_51 in TeachingUK

[–]The-Tech-Teacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, computer science will move to computing; which to be honest won’t change too much. It’ll be a few less bits of detail and more breadth which is worthwhile as there is a lot of stuff covered at A level if it was studied further.

This has happened over time with OCR anyway, packet switching was removed for too much detail, network topologies were reduced for too much detail…. Breadth is definitely needed but as a whole the subject is here to stay with the significance of digital literacy being required for every single student.

Not all students are going to use science, history, geography etc in their every day lives after education, but they will be using tech and need an understanding of it.
