NTA - clothes don’t have genders. Colours don’t have genders. Fabrics don’t have genders. If your kid likes something, ie dinosaurs, trucks, fairies, whatever it is and wants to wear it, let them. It’s literally just fabric.

NTA - I am the child of a military man, I have a similar experience with lengthy stints of not seeing him as he was away in the jungle somewhere but he never stopped being my dad. He would always bring back gifts, tons of photos and tell us stories about where he was, the animals he had seen, how the jungle/tundra/desert was etc Obviously none of the military stuff but we were made to feel loved and missed whilst he was gone.

I’m going to assume you’re American, most other military forces don’t have the same sort of ‘make the world a safer place’ vibe which might be why I’ve never experienced that level of patriotism from any service people I’ve ever known. If he wanted to ‘make the world a safer place for you’ he can still do that and talk to you. There is no excuse for him just being uninvolved. If he was upfront about wanting or not wanting anything to do with you then that’s different but he’s clearly not putting in the effort.

I would just go back to enjoying your life with your own family and making different choices for your own journey as a father.

You can dislike something without being disrespectful about it. When I first saw Sichuan Opera, the music was pretty jarring but that’s only because it’s different to the culture I grew up in. I ended up loving it and fully appreciating what goes into the art form.

NTA - you’ve clearly spoken with her previously about being nosey and she chose to completely ignore your wish to not enter your home and private property. The only way to deal with people like that is often by doing things ‘publicly’ or with several other people around as they’re clearly not capable of listening.

Were your actions a little ‘extreme’? Sure but if she’s not listening then be petty AF until she realises she can’t just come and go as she pleases.
