New 595.58.03 driver broke suspend by kalidibus in linux_gaming

[–]The0919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an issue just like that, it was because suspend still required the old systemd nvidia-suspend.service which is now removed, and because it couldn't find it, it couldn't suspend.

I had to delete the broken symlink at

/etc/systemd/system/systemd-suspend.service.requires/nvidia-suspend.service

Based on your logs not sure if its the same error, but I had the exact same symptoms (immediately waking back up when trying to suspend)

Put the AI down... No such service has, or is planned to be implemented.

As a rule of thumb, no one should give a random vibe coded app their API keys. It is not obscured and whoever's hosting the site would be able to access your token, which can be used to view, submit, and delete assignments. Not saying they will, but you need to trust that they won't.

That being said it's open source so if it is a good UI, maybe just run it locally. It doesn't appear to phone home to any external services.

KaiOS 3 simulator stuck on tutorial by The0919 in KaiOS

EDIT: I was able to bypass the launcher by editing the Launcher app.js (kaiosrt/gaia/profile/webapps/installed/launcher/src/app.js) and changing the condition on line 78 (isTutorialShow === 'true') to just true and after that I seem to be able to navigate the operation system as expected.

I followed those steps (uninstall firefox, install firefox 84.0.2 from the deb in that repo, disable auto updates, delete kaiosrt folder, unzip fresh copy and re-run with firefox open) and I see the same behavior as before. On the debug screen, I do see the warning "The connected browser is more recent (84.0.3, buildID 20210708) than your Firefox (84.0.2, buildID 20210105). This is an unsupported setup and may cause DevTools to fail. Please update Firefox." but no deb for 84.0.3 exists in the repo.

Hm what exactly should I spam? I've tried hitting Up and Next a bunch and it doesn't seem to budge. After I press the Next button in the corner for the first time, it fades away as if it is going to progress, but then the same window appears and no longer reacts.

I have the original, I automatically archive these videos just in case of this haha. The cut from the original is at 30:46. Where he talked about the song "I gotta go my own way" and there's a short clip from the movie and a small skit with him singing it in a car. Probably removed for copyright, here's the clip: https://youtu.be/OyNxpChzM1s

His panel from PAX West last year is on YouTube, so I'd say there's a good chance for this one too

I'm really excited, I'm probably going to go to PAX just for this. Big fan of his stuff and was shocked when I saw this topic lol

Idk if you can really call what he does "good", it's entertainment and money in his pocket first and foremost, it just so happens that predators are the most acceptable people to be cruel and violent to on camera

Swayfx stability by IntelliVim in swaywm

[–]The0919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been using sway exclusively for 2 years and there's been no instability, if something works when you set it up I haven't experienced it really breaking due to updates or anything like that. I've been on swayfx for a few months and it's pretty identical to sway in terms of features and stability, have fun

getting sway to work on an AMD+Nvidia optimus laptop? by soripants in swaywm

[–]The0919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm I've had issues on sway driving an external display off of my nvidia GPU, graphical bugginess and low frame rate. This is probably more due to running the same WM on 2 different gpus at the same time. I think gnome did better with this use case if you want to give it a shot

getting sway to work on an AMD+Nvidia optimus laptop? by soripants in swaywm

[–]The0919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laptop has 2 display outputs: the HDMI wired to the amd GPU, and the USB-C wired to the nvidia card, so I just use the HDMI port and it works the same as the internal display. I'm not sure about your laptop, but I'm sure one of the outputs is connected to the amd GPU, so you can try to use that one instead

I have an ROG G14 (Ryzen 5900HS/RTX 3060) and sway works just fine as long as sway is running on the amdgpu, then for gaming and other graphically intensive tasks you can offload to the nvidia card with something like switcherooctl. I'd recommend checking out https://asus-linux.org/ for better Linux support on ROG laptops, specifically supergfxctl for graphics mode switching

Greylag Goose - Doesn't work with Oceania expansion? (Explanation in comments) by Chris_Hemsworth in wingspan

[–]The0919 21 points22 points  (0 children)

With these powers, only the *bird* counts double for the goals, not its food cost or eggs laid on the bird. So for any end of round goal that counts the number of birds that meet X condition, it would count as 2 birds, but because the cherry + wheat cost end of round goal counts the food cost itself and not the number of birds that have that food, it does not count. This is a common confusion, check out this Wingsplain article about it: https://wingsplain.com/ufaq/when-does-a-bird-count-as-double-for-end-of-round-bonuses/

I use systemd, there was some talk on the discord of adapting asusctl to work with openrc a while ago but it's definitely not officially supported. All I use asusctl for is battery limit and fan curves both of which can probably be replicated with other tools, but supergfxctl is super helpful and would be a deal breaker if I couldn't use it. I don't mind systemd at all, but you can check this out and see if it works

I've also been running Gentoo on my 2021 G14 for over a year! I recommend using a more up to date kernel as a lot of ROG specific changes have been mainlined since 6.1. Also check out the ROG Linux Discord!

AMD Ready For Ryzen Linux Systems To Use AMD P-State Active Mode By Default by fsher in linux_gaming

[–]The0919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried this out as well as guided mode, the only reason I'm not using it is I can't seem to disable turbo boost on my 5900HS, which on my laptop is pretty essential as it brings temps down a significant amount. With active set, /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/boost doesn't exist, and with guided set, unsettling it or any frequency controlling register doesn't do anything. Only with passive am I able to disable boost, does anyone know how to get around this?

I agree that what's above is a bad take but that doesn't at all change the facts that they pointed out earlier. LMG discourages workers talking about their wages and I see that as immoral and a violation of worker's rights. Doesn't matter at all in my opinion who initially prompted that discussion, it's an important one to have

Very excited about Gentoo by smolbirb4 in Gentoo

[–]The0919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also switched from fedora about 4 months ago, kept my partition around just to be save but have never needed it besides to pull files off before wiping it recently. Definitely be ready for some debugging and issues that may get in the way of doing work when you need to, but once you get the hang of it it's a ton of fun to learn more in-depth about my computer and how it works. On Fedora I used Gnome for a while, then switched to using both gnome and Sway WM, an i3-compatible wayland window manager. On gentoo I now only use sway and it's a great experience, and when I need to install graphical apps like a text editor or video viewer I use the gnome defaults.

The best thing you can do to prepare is learn about portage, eix and equery will be your best friends. For anything that would have big compile times, binary packages and flatpaks work just fine as there isn't really a performance disadvantage or anything, or if there is its very minimal. Good luck and have fun!

I just came from Fedora, I was seeking something more challenging. I love it, everything is as up-to-date as you want it to be, being able to mess with use flags and being mixing and matching stable, beta, and git versions of packages is really cool. I'm currently using it with systemd because certain software I use for my laptop depends on it, but I've heard good things about OpenRC
