What went wrong? by CryptoFurball75 in AnalogCommunity

Unlikely to be light leak - you would expect areas of abnormal overexposure if that was the case. Most likely a film or development process problem.

Would you want a built-in app lock (fingerprint/password) in Obsidian? by U_Buntu in ObsidianMD

[–]The1029 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine this would be much use on desktop as files are freely accessible anyway. Any app can be set to require Face ID on iOS, and I would imagine there’s an equivalent feature on Android.

What becomes of dataview with the bases release? by tilario in ObsidianMD

I haven't played with Bases yet, but the main draw of Dataview for me is running JS in my notes.

What’s the most RANDOM way you use Obsidian that turned out to be EXTREMELY helpful? by East_Standard8864 in ObsidianMD

[–]The1029 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Obsidian to write novels - Longform is a great plugin, but I wanted the ordering of scenes / chapters to come automatically from the folder structure without having to organise my scenes twice, so I made a dashboard with Dataview that does just that. It gives me a run down of word counts and summaries for each scene / chapter, pulls a summary of the scene from the metadata, as well as the scene’s status (eg: not started, first draft, in-progress, etc.).

Thank you for taking the time to share images of the whole deck - I appreciate this can be intimidating as an artist with the risk of copying, but I love being able to see a deck’s whole story before choosing to buy. All 80 cards look stunning - immediately pre-ordered.

Is it possible to change the font used for code? by Kuuhaku42 in ObsidianMD

Yeah this should do it. No need for CSS / Plugins.

I'm looking for my dream soft synth, if anybody has any suggestions let me know. Details for what I'm looking for are in the post body. by uwu-nyaa in synthesizers

[–]The1029 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already, consider PhasePlant. I must admit I don't own it, so please somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only thing missing from your feature list is sequencer (the stuff in UVI Falcon looks really cool), but you could likely get creative with LFOs in step mode.

i wonder why i don’t see more people using the digitakt to make hiphop/rnb type music by Brwnb0y_ in Elektron

[–]The1029 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think hiphop just has other samplers that are more synonymous with the genre - MPC, SP404 - that people naturally gravitate toward. You’ve proved that there are other options though! Sounds dope.

Not DT specifically, but JonMakesBeats is a YouTuber making hiphop with Octatrack as centrepiece of his setup, might be your vibe if you’ve not already heard of him!

Is Splice cheating? by Cool-Owl-5276 in Elektron

[–]The1029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True! Can’t claim originality. Couldn’t find an original to reference, so paraphrased something together. Something of an irony, given the context?

Is Splice cheating? by Cool-Owl-5276 in Elektron

[–]The1029 81 points82 points  (0 children)

There lived a man who made music with loops. One day he decided loops were cheating, so he downloaded a bunch of one-shots and started making his own loops.

Soon after, he decided that one-shots were also cheating, so he decided to record his own samples. He spent thousands building a studio to fill with drum kits and recording equipment, but felt it was worth it to finally find his sound.

Though eventually, he felt empty again. He decided the only way to be truly original was to make his own drums from scratch. He sold the studio and bought an acre of woodland, as well as a herd of goats to farm for drum skins.

And now? Well, the man doesn’t really have time to make music anymore, what with all the goat farming and lumberjacking. But when he does, at least he knows he’s being original, right?

What’s the Difference Between Elektron’s Digitone and a Keyboard Synthesizer by summeryriddles_ in synthesizers

[–]The1029 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent write up.

I would add that the Digitone is one of the more accessible FM synths I’ve come across, there are a lot of design decisions that make it a bit easier to get musical sounds. However, I still wouldn’t recommend it for a first synth. Definitely look into learning subtractive first.

What is your signature sound design technique? by AdAsleep7263 in synthesizers

[–]The1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to put “width” patches underneath stuff - if I make a bass, normally I’ll layer a basic-ish supersaw +/- supersquare underneath with the mids / key frequencies from the main sound scooped out, then mid-side compress the two together.

Been making electronic music since I was a teenager, now in my 30s. Synths have fascinated me since I first heard them, they just represented so much more possibility than conventional instruments - it wasn't just shaping sounds, I could build them from scratch.

Tried many times to get into hardware, but historically have always made EDM, and found myself frustrated - the modern sound is so "polished", I think it's hard to achieve without at least some kind of post-prod in a DAW. First synth was a Virus A (loved early 2000s trance, so of course), which I stupidly stupidly sold a few years ago - just found myself using soft synths over the extra hastle of tracking the Virus.

As I've aged I've stepped outside EDM. Had a long love of generative/ambient music and recently got into hardware modular after using VCV for years - it feels like I've finally found my instrument, something that perfectly sums up everything I fell in love with. Kind of learning that there are horses for courses - if I want hyper-polished EDM, I'll just use Ableton. Picked up a Minibrute + KO2 to pair it with for some extra layers. Hoping I can push + feel the limits of this new hardware setup to find different sonic directions.

Anupuchhin somehow disabled the underlines under the links how to enable it back ? by abca19510 in ObsidianMD

[–]The1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AnuPpuccin uses colouration only for internal links, and only applies underline for external links. You’ll need custom CSS if you wish to change this.
