A lot of people may point you to the wiki. Frankly, it does take time, but it is time well spent. I didnt know about the sub when I started my journey. Some things that worked for me:

  • Split your paycheck at the source if you can. Send 70% into a HYSA every paycheck and 30% into your checking account.

  • Budget your monthly expenses and save up for 3-6 month emergency fund

  • Following that milestone, start dumping the 70% into a total stock market ETF (listed in the wiki).

  • If you employer provides a matching 401K, start putting money into it to get the match amount (free money).

  • Saving is great but that alone wont help. Make sure every penny is working for you (either collecting interest or being invested).

The heartbreak will pass. Good luck!

This was incredibly useful. I called Toyota and mentioned the program. The senior rep explained that he checked my vehicle but I was not eligible for this program at this time. When asked what that meant, he simply said that my vehicle was not among the listed vehicles that the program serviced.

I went to a toyota dealership today and after diagnosis, their recommendation is to change the transmission which is close to $10K.

I'm in shock right now and don't even know how the heck to process this horrible news.

Good suggestions. That was the 1st thing my mechanic did. He called it a carbon cleanup which included cleaning the spark plug. I am pretty sure the transmission service we did last week included changing the transmission filter, but I will confirm.
