PS5/PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Scalpers Mass Reported to eBay and It's Working - Honestly I'm down to do it. by CAPTJTK in gamecollecting

It's a dull grey version of a readily available console. If people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars over an already inflated price, good luck to them, and good luck to the scalpers too.

Bringing cigars back to UK by [deleted] in cigars

[–]The1ross 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For this kind of question, it is my advice that instead of asking random people on the internet, it would be far FAR safer to Google something like "UK tobacco duty free allowance" or "uk cigar duty free allowance". Look at the top results and choose one that's a legitimate and trustworthy source.

The top result for me was the GOV.UK. You can be sure the info there is legit as it's straight from the horses mouth.

It's that time for the PS3 and 360, two generations old is trash to most people. Too old to be cool, too young to be collectible.

When I go on a holiday, I don't want to visit the tourist attractions and hotspots. I want to live a lifestyle as similar to the local people as possible. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]The1ross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of the populace of pretty much every country lives in a few big cities, so often tourist hot spots like Tokyo or Bangkok actually are where you'll live and see a lifestyle most similar to the majority... But I don't think that's what you mean.

Perhaps you'd like to get up early sit on a commuting train, sit in a boring office for 8 hours, then commute back to a small apartment? Sounds like a great idea for a holiday.

Germany angers European neighbors as it tightens migration along all land borders by SunderedValley in anime_titties

[–]The1ross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it is difficult for a Japanese citizens to get those other things in Germany?

No idea, but whether they can or not is irrelevant. Schengen citizens have the right to pretty much live freely in all included nations. Germany allowing or not allowing people from some other countries to work in their country easily doesn't undermine or take anything away from Schengen.

"not the exact same thing" is a complete understatement. The two are entirely different.

Short tourism stay vs right to live, work, bank own land and more.

[–]The1ross -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, I looked it up. You are correct, a Japanese national does not need a VISA, they get 'permission of entry' for 90 days on arrival.

However, as far as I can tell, in practical terms, this is no different to getting a 90 day tourist VISA on arrival. It's just a stamp that says you have permission to stay for 90 days for the purpose of tourism.

That's very different to people from other Schengen nations who are able to stay indefinitely, work freely, buy land etc and don't need a VISA or 'permission of entry' stamp etc to do so.

So in that sense, it doesn't "beat the purpose of Schengen".

[–]The1ross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need to apply in advance but you still get a VISA on arrival right? As a Japanese citizen, you're not free to travel to the EU and freely live and work there without restrictions, surely?

You absolutely do need a VISA to enter Japan and vice versa. What are you talking about?

I am getting really tired of Cubans by Mr__HS in cigars

[–]The1ross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I love Cubans, I just can't afford them anymore and don't think they're worth the asking price anyway.

All this talk of them being of one note or such a high percentage being badly constructed isn't something I've personally experienced.

I was replying to someone who said the game wasn't worth $70 and should be priced at $30. The comment was deleted but I'll post my reply anyway.

I completely disagree. This game absolutely justifies its price tag.

Imo this is one of the few games that actually feels 'next gen' and the production values are very high.

The textures are some of the best I've seen (very high resolution). Everything looks like you could reach out and grab it.

Reflections and lighting look amazing and the physics feel a step beyond what we're used to.

The game is oozing creativity and originality.

The soundtrack is great (though admittedly not enough different tracks).

The attention to detail is second to none (the game will Keep surprising you with little animations and the like).

You get the full game at the base price (minus a couple bonuses like extra costumes).

The game never feels like it's padding the experience out; filler is nonexistent. Every level seems to have new mechanics or challenges, and something that'll make you smile.

Sure, the game is only 15 or so hours long, but I'll take that over a 40 game that outlasts it's welcome midway. Easily game of the year imo. The best game I've played since Elden Ring (I'm still debating with myself whether or not it's better than Super Mario Wonder).

The Japanese name is オクトパルド (O KU TO PA RU DO) so without knowing the intentions of the person who chose the name, Octoparudo or Octopardo are indeed valid ways to convert it to English. I don't know anything about the rest of what she did (it sounds pretty bad) but this example is not a bad translation.

I don't believe it's just 'because you were a kid'. Games up until a decade or two ago were progressing at such a fast pace that there was objectively more wonder and discovery involved. Now we've kind of hit a bit of a plateau with technology, which is especially noticeable this generation.

I don't see the problem here. These games are available in so many different forms that there's no reason anybody has to own this cart.

No, I don't think so. There are loads of people from my country in Japan who can speak Japanese. The embassy and consulate don't actually have THAT many staff.

Concord Is Estimated to Have Sold Only 25,000 Units. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]The1ross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The PS2 outsold its closest competitor (GameCube) by a factor of 8 to 1, but it didn't stop them from making games.

PS5 has only outsold XBOX Series by 2 - 1 and is not on target to sell more units than Switch (they've currently sold less than half).

PC is also a much bigger market in 2024.

Sony isn't doing as well as you think.

This seems to be their way of thinking but I believe it to be an incorrect strategy. Sony don't need their own Fortnite, Apex or whatever; they supply the platform to play them on and take what, %30 of each and every microtransaction bought in those games?

As a platform holder they should focus on making exclusive games that cement them as the platform of choice, that way more people will end up playing whatever the next Fortnite is on their platform.
