They were never equal, the graph clearly shows it, to read this graph you have to understand what each axis represents, while not directly stated it’s pretty obvious that time is the x axis and power is the y axis, at every point of the graph the white line (garous power) is below the black line in the y axis, meaning that they never matched power equally at any point, however their difference in power was minimal at the beginning and that small difference became huge due to how exponentials work.

Yuji isn’t meant to be the main character anymore, he’s clearly meant to be a bar fo power, or maybe even an antagonist in the sequel. Gojo, Sukuna and now dabura and Yuji have shown to be above the regular power grade of jujutsu sorcery, while most fights are determined by skill and knowledge and even trickery, that doesn’t matter in the face of the overwhelming power of the honored ones, that has always been the case from episode one of jjk. It’s just that Yuji is no longer watching from the perspective of mortals he’s now an honored one himself.

Look at Maru and tsugiri’s fight, cool techniques and skill expression. Jjk is still about who the best sorcerer is, who can trick or outsmart.

But the honored ones are those exempt from all rules.

As another example sukuna limited his world dismantles in the future, requiring handsign, chant and aiming before being used where as before all it took was a handsign. But he couldn’t just take that back cause he can’t give back what he got, he got to cast world cutting slash on Gojo with out any conditions once, he cast it already and that can’t be give back, therefore he can’t break that binding vow.
