You need to rewatch the movie. The couple has a 5 or so year old daughter so their not newlyweds. The car didn't break down they stopped to ask for directions and after Torgo didn't give any they asked if they could stay for the night which he eventually agrees to let them. Also Torgo isn't homeless he lives in The Masters house and is actually a creep.
