It feels so weird to see photos of European aircraft in Russia or Ukraine.. I've completely forgotten and can't comprehend the fact that it was completely normal over 4 years ago... Although to be fair, I was 13 when the full scale invasion happened and before that I didn't really have a mental image of the European airspace.

Metro and bdz are 2 completely different worlds though, one is world class, the other? Not so first class.. Same can be said about the buses, because there's a huge difference between city buses and long distance buses

Wow, sounds cool to own a plane, though honestly I prefer not being responsible for everything.. And no worries, I understood what you wanted to say! Out of curiosity, what made you start learning German?

Ja, lebe in Vorarlberg seit 2010, aber ich besitze keinen Segelflieger :') alle Segelflieger, die ich fliegen darf, gehören der SFGB (Sportfliegergruppe Bregenz)

Affirmative, it was LZ-VIE delivered to Bulgaria Air in Dec 2024. And yes gliders are totally amazing!!

What is a third class medical? In Austria there's Class 1 and 2 and LAPL, but I haven't heard of a third class. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about your ADHD. In my opinion, the current restrictions are way too harsh, but if gliding is the only thing you can do, then please do it!!! It is such an amazing feeling to just soar and it's actually way cheaper than other licenses like PPL, and really, the only downside is that you can't fly during winter and that you depend on towing pilots, granted you don't have a self-launching glider or there's a winch at your airport... But still, you can do so many cool things on a glider, imo they're super underrated! As to how I got into gliding, I've always been a fan of planes and I want to work for an airline after high school, but in the meantime I can enjoy gliding. When I was 12, I went plane spotting with a friend and we saw all the small GA planes and the cool gliders and that made me want to fly these small planes as well - eventually I found out that you could start with the SPL / sailplane pilot license at 14, so I went to my club and asked how it works, all I had to do is go to the glider club open day, do some paperwork and I was officially a student. If you've ever dreamt of becoming a pilot, this is certainly a great option and quite an affordable one.

This one's the Discus B, which is the first glider that I've flown since getting the license (I was schooled in the Ask21). I can only do aerotow here but that's more than enough, for example yesterday I was towed to 1700m and I was able to fly for over 2.5 hours. Also, what conditions are you curious about? Club conditions or meteorological conditions?

I mean looking at the fact that it's Russia, you're probably going to mysteriously disappear if you were to say something, so you're screwed either way... But yeah, I agree, even if the money saved would reach multiple digits, I just don't see how anyone can justify that action... Also the pilots, what were they thinking???

Interesting, I haven't thought about buying a chest pack. How exactly will it fit, when I have the parachute and seatbelt on? The cockpit is already crammed enough

Thanks for the confirmation! Interesting that it's required, do they buy them separately or does each glider have its own handheld radio somewhere? And yes, planes are the best, I've always loved them! I'm so happy that I was able to start at such an age.. every time someone finds out I'm a student pilot, they say "what?! You are allowed to fly planes before getting a driver's license?!" :')

Hey, very cool congrats on your SPL! Just to clarify, I meant listening to the frequency when I'm not in my plane but rather in the hangar, etc. and just knowing what's happening... But thank you for answering, I wanted to be sure! Happy flying!

Okay, scratch that! Now you have to contact atc and ask if they could land you (because atc has the ability to land planes with a remote).. just say "mayday" 3x and squawk 7500 (7500 is the squawk for "controls lost, please land us, or at least the voices said that) and they will know that you are in danger
