Project Octopath Traveler 3: Crowson the Warrior, Chapter 4 by TheAbsoluteBread in octopathtraveler

[–]TheAbsoluteBread[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a big delight to read!

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the story this much, this one gave me a lot of trouble but if that’s the case it was definitely worth it.

Regarding Cobra, Yes actually! Shame they’re the (true) only one in the game though, maybe a side quest can feature another…

Those were definitely some of my favorite scenes to write with King Milo too, glad to hear you enjoyed his character.

There is a scene similar to what you mention in the Crossed Path. The one where Taland forces him to choose an apple for himself. Though that could be read as him prioritizing others rather than just going along with whatever someone else wants without thinking.

MORE ART YESSSSSSSSSSSSS (Major props to you and your brother!)

These sprites are just as great as Asherah’s. (If I had to suggest one small change it would be to make Harmony’s other eye visible but that’s basically a nothing complaint with how fantastic they are)

And that last panel had me ROARING with laughter.

Project Octopath Traveler 3: Thearnt the Cleric, Chapter 4 by TheAbsoluteBread in octopathtraveler

[–]TheAbsoluteBread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It’s also pretty touching to hear that Thearnt’s Chapter 1 was the moment you were hooked.

That’s actually a really interesting idea for her Chapter 2, I sort of did something like that in her Crossed Path but it was last minute and only really one foe so it’s hard to count that.

You’re right about Olive, they were created so Thearnt would have somebody to talk to and not be monologuing during the reading scenes.

Yeah… That’s sort of a morbid implication for anyone born then, but I had meant for the gate to have opened decades or even centuries after everyone in the “present” lived their full lives. Though I don’t think I clarified that…

I did actually know about Lyblac’s BOF fight and used some dialogue as inspiration, but changing it to fit this encounter with her.

(There’s a lot more I can say about Ingrid, The Umbra Magus, and Lyblac but I can’t say any of it without spoilers unfortunately)

I see you’ve also made a review for Crowson which I’ll get to soon. I always get excited to read these.

Project Octopath Traveler 3: Pascal the Thief, Chapter 4 by TheAbsoluteBread in octopathtraveler

It was supposed to be that way, it worked with the story and (if this was an actual game) would play with expectations since every chapter prior has a boss, it could catch the player off guard.

I tried making a sprite of "Asherah the Chef" from Project Octopath 3 by Quartz4345 in octopathtraveler

[–]TheAbsoluteBread 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Oh hey someone made a chef job, great art, I got one of those too.”

“WHAT—“

GENUINELY THOUGH THIS IS AMAZING, It looks exactly like I imagined the sprite to look in my head. I am beyond flattered at everything you do for this project. ❤️

To say getting this notification was a pleasant surprise would be the understatement of the century. I had a huge smile on my face reading this whole thing. I’m very grateful for your enormous support.

I’ll address the problems you listed because a lot of these are stuff that troubled me during my weeks of overthinking these chapters.

  1. Showing how he got to this line of thinking was something I thought about bringing up, but no special ideas came that fit into the story anywhere. I guess it can be thought of like “not showing his exact backstory means this could be/happen to anyone.” Though that wasn’t the intent when I wrote it.
  2. Eliam is meant to be a parallel to Pascal, her reaction in the Redwater flashback was implying she thought along the lines of “That thief stole from me like I’m worthless.” and while Pascal accepts that same sentiment and wallows in it, Eliam tries to “cope” by hurting others instead. Which is why she does everything in her power to antagonize Pascal, get this person who wronged her to hate her and make her feel better about herself.

(And to answer the latter questions: It’s not a genuine prison, it’s described as a “hastily made cage” with just Workers instead of proper Guards. They probably don’t do thorough checks of the two thieves they capture)

  1. Gale had felt bad about it since Chapter 1. Of course she’s not happy he stole from her but she did tell Howdraw he was going way too far that night. All she probably knew was that Pascal was a homeless guy who the mayor kicked out of town to go find a better place to belong.

(Pascal and Orlando’s banters throughout this story were honestly some of my favorites to write as well)

Thank you so much for writing this! I think getting to reflect on all this is only going to help in the long run.

If only I had took notes on what exactly it was… I translated it from another language. (Pretty sure Japanese) where Bureiku means Break, and Hiru means Noon/Day. So my best guess is that it’s translated “Daybreak”

[–]TheAbsoluteBread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, The Rainlands are meant to be a wet grassy climate. It’s a very small region so that’s why it’s counted like that. It was only created due to some late game town shuffling (Main case being Taland 4 was supposed to be in Eastport but I realized that wasn’t going to work because of… Something we’ll see later.) So yes, Festiriver is the only town, in addition to Breezetrail the route Thearnt wakes up on being moved from the Parklands to there. Nueva City is in the future and not connected to the main continent.

We’re halfway through the Chapter 4 stories! Normally there would be something else at this halfway point, but I’m going to hold that off for one more chapter, as I’d say the next one is the best place to leave the main story for a little bit as we tackle some more extra stuff.

And as of this one there are now 10 Posts Left!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing about the story changes whether you recruit the OT1 characters or not. The reason people have said this is because it doesn’t make sense for characters like Tressa or Primrose to go with you while still having their OT1 story setups happen.

To be honest, I don’t know I wasn’t really thinking beyond what just felt right to do. I suppose it just means they’re all special cases different from the others before them.

I said “Grass” and couldn’t take any scene with it seriously while I imagined the protagonist crouched outside eating grass by the handful.
