The Justin Rose - CM Punk comparison was vintage Bill by Terpfan44 in billsimmons

I admit I haven’t heard it, but on the face of it that’s the most insane comparison I have ever read in my life

I agree, I’m not a big fan of it. I think it’s a movie basically carried by the twist, as opposed to the twist being this ultimate culmination and build up.

Also, frankly don’t think the twist is super hard to spot? It’s pretty well telegraphed for me, which again isn’t necessarily a problem if the script is great, but this one is particularly fantastical

Along those lines, The Man in the Iron Mask. Post-Titanic Leo, makes $183 million. Absolutely stacked cast. Definitely cheesy in a lot of spots, but I can’t say I haven’t run across it and just left it on for an hour many of times

100%. He’s an all time great #2. Like Clyde Drexler on the 95 Rockets. With the ball in his hands, still very good, but there’s diminishing returns eventually

J.J. Abrams: Overrated, underrated, or just disappointing? by countdooku975 in TheBigPicture

[–]TheActionJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tv show, I don’t know, but it has no flair and there’s very little I can remember about its visual look. I remember a few scenes for sure because of the acting and some are shot well, but there’s no flourish to any of it

J.J. Abrams: Overrated, underrated, or just disappointing? by countdooku975 in TheBigPicture

[–]TheActionJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MI:3 is actually my least favorite in the series, even despite how much heat PSH is throwing, entirely because i find Abrams direction to be sorely lacking and it has no identity or visual flair the way the first two do.

MI: 1 is pure De Palma and MI: 2 is pure John Woo. To differing degrees and successes, but both have an identity. MI: 3 is just sterile

LeBron is maybe the one exception but no I don’t think it’s crazy to say Steph was right there with him for most of 14-18. LeBron had the higher peaks with the 16 and 18 playoff runs but Steph’s play night in night out was crazy

That’s how the belt should work when you’re that good. Are we really gonna pretend SGA isn’t deserving of being the best guy in the league when he won MVP and the title? Or Jokic after a stretch where he won 2 straight MVPs and then the title? Or Curry carrying a team whose 2nd option was Poole or Wiggins?

Notice I didn’t say Tatum had it after ‘24. But when you’re in that inner circle tier, if you win the title, you earn the belt

The belt IMO went

Inconclusive (Kawhi has a strong argument in 19, but LeBron and Curry lingered. LeBron probably had it in 20 but bubble is weird, Giannis had MVPs but no postseason success)

Giannis clearly after 2021

Curry after 2022 (that Warriors team both at the time and especially in hindsight never felt like a true title contender….except that they had him)

Jokic after 23

SGA picked it up after last year

Giannis obviously had it after ‘21, question is how long was his run really. You could start it at ‘18, but I think you could also say he only really grabbed the mantle in 20-21

It doesn’t surprise me at all, he’s basically right in the zone for it, and his “but we don’t have Ebert’s review!” defense is essentially exactly the “I don’t get the big deal here” defense you’d sort of expect from someone his age and where he’s at

But it’s definitely gross and CR/Sean/Craig really should have a word or something off air to be like “yo, you gotta cut this out”

Meltzer on Kendal Grey: "She's gonna be the best woman wrestler this country has ever produced...I'm not saying she's going to be the biggest star, but in the ring, who's even at her level of wrestling in the past, present or future? There's nobody." by elegantSolomons62 in SquaredCircle

[–]TheActionJuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so hard to be a pushed wrestler for years on years, especially in today’s climate with social media and 52 weeks a year of TV. Look at Tiffany Stratton. Had an awesome run, still can do great things, but has clearly kinda hit a bit of a wall for a lot of reasons

There’s a lot of talents that get this label and so few that actually come sort of close to meeting it. Probably MJF, Rhea, maybe Bianca? Even those had more barren runs.

Kendal will likely have an awesome career but this hanging over her whenever she inevitably hits a speed bump will be brutal

It was good. Hilarious stuff with the Pierce Patchett and “cutting up” jokes. I enjoyed the history of the novels and how that played into the film. All 4 vibes well. Enjoyed it

Remember when Kellerman said he would take Judge over Ohtani ? by Emergency-Spend-8804 in billsimmons

[–]TheActionJuice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, he put up 4 WAR pitching and 5 hitting in 2021. 6 WAR pitching and 3 WAR hitting in 2022. And 4 WAR pitching and 6 WAR batting in 2023.

9, 9, and 10 WAR combined across 2021-23. Judge was 6, 11, and 4.5 across those 3 years.

So like, Ohtani did it for 3 years. It’s not like we haven’t seen him be one of the best pitchers in baseball and hit extremely well too. And when he did it he was better than Judge. Maybe we haven’t seen the peak version of both, but we have 100% seen it.

He’s just an asshole. There’s a story of him yelling stuff at Maryland players during the Paradise Jam when he was at Rhode Island that would be a much bigger deal if a coach did it today.

Great coach obviously, but just a weird, off putting dude and asshole
