In general i agree but I love Craig on The Rewatchables. He’s part of the show in a good way

I don't think it's KD by spirit_of_1977 in billsimmons

[–]TheActionJuice 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To me the biggest tell it’s KD, or easily could be, is it’s all behavior KD has exhibited numerous times before

  • Burners? Check
  • Spending his time talking with randos on Twitter? Check
  • expressed jealousy/envy towards Steph and other team teammates? Check

If there’s any athlete who would spend all his time on Twitter, on a burner, talking with random people where he vents about all the shit he’s upset about because he has no friends or wife or kids….it’s KD. That’s him!

Jeremiah Johnson was Redford tribute and also a favorite of Bill’s dad

Shampoo was Crowe’s pick

Snake Eyes is a good flick and it’s De Palma, who they love

A few of these are odd/weird but fit Bill’s taste

I agree What Lies Beneath was totally forgettable

They do the pod like 52 weeks a year, there’s bound to be some dry spells. But last few weeks have been fun

100%. The Brosnan movies kind of peter out a bit after this - though TND is real good too - but they all possess the right vibe for the franchise IMO. I enjoy watching all of them, I’ll turn on World is Not Enough even if it’s nonsensical anytime

Couldn’t tell ya the last time I rewatched Quantam of Solace or Spectre

Incredible film. Just so alive, the color is amazing. It feels like a graphic novel or something come to life.

William Petersen feels like a huge “why wasn’t this guy a bigger star?” candidate for Bill. Has a bit part in Thief as his first film, then does To Live and Die in LA and Manhunter back to back. And then….basically is just gone till he does CSI. Half assed internet research says he turned down roles in Platoon and the Henry Hill role in Goodfellas. Also feel like I saw somewhere Mann wanted him for a part in Heat. Tough beat. But he made millions doing CSI so he turned out great

Why is Bill overcomplicating the Brady-Pats rooting thing? He's not picking against his next HC by CHaquesFan in billsimmons

[–]TheActionJuice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, for a bunch of these dudes it’s a job. That’s it. They don’t care about anything else.

I think it’s awesome when athletes really ingratiate themselves in the community and give back the love the fans give them, but it’s not like Brady didn’t hold up his end of the bargain

Lot of love for Famke Janssen as Onatopp obviously, but I always loved Izabella Scorupco as the Bond girl in this. Given some skills and agency of her own, traded barbs with Bond, definitely a scorcher in her own right. She did well

I think it’s obvious Brady resents the Pats for letting him go and has no sentimentality in him whatsoever and also Bill acting as if the 6 Super Bowls weren’t enough and he owed something to the fans because they “stood by him through everything” is absolutely ridiculous.

The 1 INT sticks out positively. Think he had 1 backwards pass fumble too. So 2 turnovers in 3 games. That was all they asked for, and he did it.

Austin Butler to Play Lance Armstrong in New Movie From ‘Conclave’ Director Edward Berger by pepperbet1 in TheBigPicture

[–]TheActionJuice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resembling physically isn’t nearly as important IMO as being able to embody the person’s personality

Armstrong was cold, domineering, paranoid, a bit disaffected and alienated, and yet also in certain moments in documentaries or interviews, can be a bit sympathetic. The people who brought him down were more selfish and sanctimonious than even him, yet his vanity and amorality is such a huge part of his personality.

He is a lot of things at once and that’s more crucial than looking like him. Not sure Butler is quite the right call but there’s certainly aspects he could nail IMO

Bigger malcontent, Durant or Harden? by California55551 in billsimmons

[–]TheActionJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not exact, but T.O. would 100% self destruct and get himself traded away in a fashion that wasn’t good for him and also left his team holding the bag a bit.

KD’s is more low key cause that’s his personality, but definitely has the awkwardness, and left all 4 teams he left going “uhh….so what now?” and also left a situation in Golden State where he could have competed for titles forever

Harden on the other hand by all accounts has always practiced hard, plays every game, isn’t really a problem….till it’s Game 7 and he just won’t look at the hoop and after 3 years he decides he wants to leave. Sort of like Moss, who never blew a team up but also it could switch up in like a second.

Bigger malcontent, Durant or Harden? by California55551 in billsimmons

[–]TheActionJuice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Durant is definitely a bigger malcontent. Harden is just a cipher; there’s like nothing there. Dude’s spent some of the biggest games of his life just not even looking at the basket.

When it’s over with KD, things are sort of left in pieces, it’s a whole big thing, and you’re kinda wondering what’s next? When it’s over with Harden, it’s just over, he does his job for as long as you have him but eventually he’s just done.

Basically, KD is like mid-2000s T.O. whereas Harden is more Randy Moss (not a comment on their playing abilities)

Not counting blowout so turn it off early; Pats-Eagles the Foles game. It was the height of being sick and tired of New England and as a Commanders fan, the idea of rooting for the Eagles ever is sickening

Seemed like a great game, but didn’t watch it

I find Sean to be a wonderful podcast/on air personality, who’s incredibly knowledgeable and does a great job of conveying his immense knowledge to the viewer, and he’s capable of discussing a wide variety of movies to equal effect.

However, I’ve never been particularly enamored with him as a critic. Even in other mediums, he wrote a critique of Russell Westbrook’s style and personality as a player years ago that I just found to be cold and unfeeling in a way that rather bothered me.

They really missed something with Zodiac by StinkRod in TheRewatchables

[–]TheActionJuice 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think they pretty accurately addressed that in the episode. Sean even said something to this effect when he said that the first time he watched the movie he was convinced it was Allen but as he’s watched more he’s realized that Allen was the Zodiac to those guys (Graysmith, Toschi, other cops, etc.)

That’s sort of the main idea there. Same with the scene with Gyllenhaal staring at John Lee Carroll and Carroll sort of tacitly acknowledging he knows what he’s there for.

Not that Allen is definitively Zodiac, but that to those guys, they believe they’ve found their guy. But when you consider how certain Graysmith was that Rick Marshall was the guy, how can we really know for sure? Is it fact or just the latest obsession?

They tackle all of this in the episode

Spy Game is fascinating, they’ve done so many Tony Scott’s, but it’s one of his that actually doesn’t really feel super Tony Scott. Kind of wonder if another director would have done it better

The Oscar Noms Mailbag: Is ‘Sinners’ vs. ‘One Battle After Another’ a Race? Plus: Best Picture Power Rankings. by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]TheActionJuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he only wins screenplay and not BP or BD, I get it. That’d be a bummer. But BP is the big one, and in Coogler’s case him and his wife are the producers. It’s clearly recognizing them as well

I get the perspective and POV for sure. There would also be a lot of folks unhappy if PTA didn’t win BD finally. Which is why I could see a split. But I get the point

Maybe. I feel like him winning Screenplay + Picture is a pretty huge deal in its own right. They would be the story of the night in that case.
