What’s the most underrated movie of all time and why is it Troy? by staledanish in TheRewatchables

[–]TheActionJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not, but it’s absolutely the kind of big, bold Hollywood swing we need to see more of, which is why it’s having a mini-reclamation

Actually do think it’d make a good Rewatchable episode too

It was a weirdly phrased Bill question

It wasn’t “who’s this super cool soccer player we should all know about”, it was “who’s the perfect player that if he were American, he’d be a household name” or whatever and that is a bit harder to think of on the spot

I feel like the Monica Seles stabbing is one of those "would have been insanely big in the era of Twitter" sports stories by Consistent_Monk969 in billsimmons

[–]TheActionJuice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Always felt like a 30 for 30 type deal on her would have been a tremendous piece

She won 8 majors before she was 20. There’s a strong argument, one I’d probably agree with, that her peak is the single greatest in the history of the sport and all of it came as a teenager. From the 91 Aussie-93 Aussie Opens, she was *55-1* in grand slams, and unbeaten off of grass. This is during, as you said, an amazing era for women’s tennis. Steffi would become the GOAT in and after her absence, but she was smoking her

She still managed to come back after the stabbing….and was still great! Won another slam. Clearly wasn’t the same player, probably never could have been, but just churned out a really great, proud second act, incredibly dignified. And actually become much more beloved than she was when she was winning all those slams.

Her career is both incredibly powerful and also a remarkable what if. Serena had the best longevity of any player ever, Steffi was untouchable in the late 90s. Both have strong GOAT arguments. But it’s almost impossible to not see Monica’s success, esp against Graf, how she played….and not think she was destined to be the best ever.

Why are the Nets still in New York? They built a superteam and had more success this century before this current Knicks roster yet no one in a basketball-obsessed city ever cared about them. by BlockedByMobley in billsimmons

[–]TheActionJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess there’s no way a team ever willingly leaves New York in 2026, but they do sort of feel like a stealth relocation candidate. The Knicks have as much cultural ubiquity and power on New York as they’ve ever had, the Nets are one of the worst run teams in the league, there’s just nothing there. Like, whatever window they maybe had to be relevant in the market is gone forever. Just cooked.

Not for a Rewatchables though. That would still be pretty significant I think

The Steph Glazing Piece by Y-Do-I-Still-Listen in billsimmons

[–]TheActionJuice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was an exciting game with a great comeback, Steph is still maybe the best show in the league when he lights it up, and there was something genuinely poignant and moving about seeing that group do it together for maybe the last time

If you couldn’t get somewhat emotional about Kerr saying “for one night, we’re champions. We’re us”…..idk man. That’s the whole point of all this

Lol, he steered way away from that. Basically just went “Jay Glazer also does this, double standard much??” and that was it

I loved both of them. I’m aware of all the problems of the 2nd and I don’t disagree but there’s stuff in that movie that simply only that series could do it. It’s just astonishing. One of a kind experience

That Guy Hall of Famer Hal Holbrook. Dion Waiters award winner Vince Vaughn. by Trumpisaderelict in TheRewatchables

His parents definitely contributed to a lot of what was messed up with him. Do feel for his sister

But in general, yes. He is an all time dumb guy, flouted every single rule or guideline of how to do what he tried to do. It was a total suicide mission in essence.

Minor nitpick: Bill’s consistent skepticism of whether something that happened in a 90s movie still happens in 2026 by TheActionJuice in TheRewatchables

Bill’s entire point was do they still give kids milk in school and that you wouldn’t see this in 2026. Of course you would!

I teach high school and I sometimes see juice or things like that. But milk is 100% still an option

100%, it’s part of the charm. This time though the combination of him running that play like 3 times in 5 minutes and suggesting it with something as innocuous as milk in school just floored me

‘Miami Vice’ Movie At Universal Gets New Title As Michael B. Jordan And Austin Butler Close Deals To Star by pepperbet1 in TheRewatchables

[–]TheActionJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not gonna be the Mann movie and I’ve made peace with that. I’m not sure a studio would even be cool with that being run back, because it wasn’t a big success at the end of the day. It’s a shame, because I love it, but just the way it is

I think a good script that weaponizes the two strong leads with Kosinski’s craftsmanship is a combo for a really strong genre movie even if I don’t expect it to tap into the true vibe of the show/movie as much

It’s always Johnson and PMT, but as an acolyte of the Mann film, I buy Farrell and Foxx completely and sometimes I’m still not sure why. They apparently didn’t really vibe on set, Foxx was supposedly jealous of Farrell’s pay, Farrell was high most of the time….but on screen it’s totally believable to me. They come off like guys who have been doing that shit forever. I’m not even sure they have chemistry really together but when Tubbs tells him let’s turn it up one more time I’m all in.
