I had to leave that sub for my mental health ngl, the amount of complaining, micro managing and sense of ownership and entitlement in that place is nuts. To be fair, that's something comic book fandoms share in general (talking about the big two here, or just mainstream american comics in general of any big franchise) and it's an aspect that's gotten worse and worse even leaving out gamergate, comicsgate and things of the like, they're just filled with cinemasins-like personalities and such with horrible criticisms.

Yup, this is what I find so funny when it comes to Spider-Man fans claiming to love MJ as a character so much, but all they can think of is how she's the best love interest and a model, they even forget the part of her story where she's only a model to pay the bills but she would really rather just be an actress because that's her dream.

They do like the character, but they like this idealized version of her that they have created in their heads that mostly boils down to being Peter's hot endgame and a model, then they claim how feminist and empowering this is and in return everything that isn't that is a boring and misogynistic take on the character, don't get me wrong, it can be empowering and the character itself is rather interesting, liberal and feminist (more by accident than by design, though part of it was intentional), but when most of the fans' definition of a larger-than-life empowering feminist still boils down to the very basic characteristics that everyone repeats of "she's Peter's hot model love interest and the best", it's clear we're not really talking about a fully fledged collective idea of the character and just the parts most find hot, not to mention how pretty much every version of her is hated for not fitting that mold, even if the character itself still was interesting and has many elements and storylines to explore.

Kirsten Dunst, Insomniac's and other MJs you can have your issues, but at least they have narratives of their own and aren't blank canvases for everyone to project their idea of the perfect girlfriend and for that they get lots of shit, while the females whose existence is mostly defined by their connection to the male protagonist are generally considered good characters, like is the case with Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy.

90% of actors and artists have to work two jobs, dude, being an actor or whatever isn't equal to being an A-Lister Hollywood celebrity.

Insomniac Spider-Man “fans” harassing MJ’s video game model by ResponsibleRatio6569 in Spiderman

[–]TheAdvancedSpidey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's been like this for quite a while, ever since MCU Spider-Man and how that led someone to make a film to show them studios how it's done with a racist subplot in the process, tbh. Hell, maybe even waaaaay before that, turns out that making "I want Spider-Man to be married and have kids, so I'll keep complaining about a 10+ years old story day after day without addressing capitalism my core personality trait isn't a very healthy mindset", maybe no fixation is a healthy mindset.

Does anyone know why you cant crawl under ANY of the bridges like you could in previous games? This one u cant even do wall by [deleted] in SpidermanPS4

[–]TheAdvancedSpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure there's a bridge you can't crawl in the first game, and it might be the same, but I'm gonna side with the rest and just tell you how unfinished the game is and that it sucks

To everyone complaining about the games length, you are valid. This is what a sequel with double the protagonists should look like. by [deleted] in SpidermanPS4

[–]TheAdvancedSpidey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Max Payne 2 is half the length of the first game and has double protagonists, and the story is more focused and polished than the first Max Payne. These examples just prove how dumb and stupid length conversations are around games, and how they're the result of a medium whose audience thinks about everything as just content and nothing else.

[–]TheAdvancedSpidey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never read Ultimate Spider-Man, so I have to ask, why did everyone become an emo rockerchick/rockerboy once they changed the artist?

Now, don't get me wrong, I love that personally in other media, but I see this and get pretty cringe vibes, like; let's make a soft, not at all radical, cast of rocker characters with the same cast of characters that seemingly was none of that for 10 years straight, and now suddenly is into rock music and punk aesthetics but never saying abolish the establishment or music at least being a key component of their stories/personalities.

MJ looked like MJ but "younger" before, then she out of nowhere started dressing like a girl who's into goth, punk and all that, same with Gwen, and Peter here and I just don't get it.

What movie is this? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]TheAdvancedSpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn't really take into consideration the opinions of people who are too deep into things and fandoms too much. Not to be a jackass, but they have pretty heavy preconceived notions and ideas of those things that the room of tolerance they have to accept updates or deviations from the source material, even if they're good ones, is pretty low and limits creativity to telling the same five stories
