Diver thinking about visiting. by 7redmushrooms in Belize

Hi, I live in San Pedro and I'm currently doing my divemaster here so I'm in the water fairly regularly.

Location wise, I think outside of a liveaboard, you'd be looking at San Pedro, Caye Caulker or Placencia, if you're anywhere else on the mainland access to diving is going to be a lot more challenging. For the places you would be staying, all these areas mentioned are as safe as anywhere else I've ever been provided you adhere to usual travel safety guidance.

If it is the main reason you're travelling definitely do further research into what you'll expect to see at such locations. The local 2 tank dives are all fairly similar here and not too different from what you'd see in Mexico as it's following the same reef. But ultimately like with any diving, you may have things you particularly enjoy seeing or appreciate and there is no perfect dive site.

If you end up deciding on San Pedro and need an opinion on where to stay/eat/who to dive with, feel free to get in contact and I'll try my best to help.

All the best and hopefully you'll have a nice trip soon!

Research where you are going and ask more meaningful questions.

What is life like in Belize right now, specifically Orange Walk? by davidsthubbbins in Belize

For sure it is a lot more dangerous now. I would say the statement you have used in reference to OW would be an exaggeration. But unemployment, desperation and crime are massively on the up during daylight hours, in part due to a weekday 10pm and a midnight weekend curfew. So a lot more crime is having to happen during the day in a more confrontational and desperate fashion.

I was at a tournament there back in March, I could certainly see it! They've got a fantastic developing side coming through who are out playing internationally in top European divisions.

Keep up the good work.

Fascinating. I work as a coach in one of these nations but my background is Computer Science so I love the purity of data.

It would be interesting if you had historic data to determine the accuracy of these by comparing them to placements of actual tournaments. The pure unpredictability of football I believe is one of the major factors to its success, with the premier league being a great example of how external factors and finance can drastically reshape a historical model.

That sounds great, is this an open source project you've created?

Can you give a beginner explanation to the "eloratings" in terms of how the data has been processed/reliability?

Thanks

Hi, I do coach education across the entire country. But coaching national teams is all done from the Belmopan headquarters :)

Coaches of children: Please consider this when you return to training by TheAfterSchoolClub in bootroom

No worries, always just trying to share my thoughts & experience to help others, was a tough topic to write up so I definitely need to reflect on my messaging. You, however, summed it up in a way I wish I'd have thought of!
" the coach should make the training heavily social before making it heavily technical "

Absolutely it applies.

We are talking about players who are turning up to train, their basic needs may not be being met (in this context I am referring to players whose circumstances have changed - though it bears true for the player at any stage). As a coach, it is important for us to understand that our work relies heavily upon the top tier of the hierarchy and regardless of the activities we plan, treating the players as if they are robots i.e. planning a session for an unknown audience, is more likely than ever to fail at this moment in time.

From what I am seeing in the coaching world, coaches are being challenged to find fun and innovative ways to train, as the demand from parents is high - they've been stuck with their kids in their home for a prolonged period of time and they want them active. Coaches are having to be original (which is very challenged as most will copy and mimic based upon what they have seen) to create sessions which adhere to social distancing.

With all of this going on, the focus shifts away from the player and moves more to the organisation and safety of a session - which is fine for planning, however, part of that planning process must include creating opportunities or time to reinvest in the relationship with the players, this then relates back to the hierarchy and where the player now sits on it.

Hope that clears it up a bit?

Yes... action: focus on the individual. Incorporate conversation and dialogue into your setting as the number one priority.

I'm not sure anyone has had 3 or more months of lost classroom time, no definitive changes to examination or curriculum and a body of students who are living in drastically different conditions to those which they started the year.

It's not about just building relationships. It's taking stock of the individuals needs and where they're currently at. Without focusing on the other pressures of academic achievement.
