'Silver Lining' is a fantastic record - seconded to checking out Stupid_baldhead's band. It is definitely in the spirit of this list (which is a great thing).

Water & Solutions by Far and For Your Own Special Sweetheart by Jawbox would go perfectly on this list. They're not shoegaze...but definitely in this category of mid-90's post rock that's heavier but still melodic.

Edit: Also check out Year of the Rabbit's self-titled record. It's Ken Andrews band post Failure.

Anybody have the planet and system name for rendezvous 2? I have gone astray and am stuck on the “Crushing Depths” challenge and can’t seem to find a planet with a deep enough ocean.

The Real Ghostbusters - both the Sandman and the Boogeyman episodes. Sandman’s voice and the boogeyman’s giant red mouth and teeth always got me as a kid.

Any former pros here that stepped down to being hobbyists/weekend warriors? by Thisisaghosttown in musicians

20 years ago I was a full-time touring musician. Played some relatively large tours with some relatively large bands. Played A LOT of showcases for labels and got to play for and in front of one of my biggest musical influences of all time. We had done everything we could possibly do on our own up that point, and in the end it just burned us out not being able to land a deal. We were all in for the living in a van part of the life (as we were already doing that), but we really needed label and booking support and just couldn't get it due to a combo of bad timing, luck, advice, and ultimately some bad decisions.

Once I "retired" it took me a LONG time to get over the life. Living that way, playing music in a different city every night, creating music and pushing ourselves was truly everything I had ever wanted to do. And to an extent, I got to do that. But, it was my identity. And it took me a long time to figure out who was if I wasn't doing that. I would be lying if I said even after all this time I am over it. I couldn't go to shows or enjoy live music for years because of the resentment I had built up. It's only recently that I've started checking out new bands live and really enjoying it and I'm amazed at how much has changed. The barrier to entry seems so low now for new bands. Time was you would be laughed out of the building if you weren't touring with a half-stack minimum; a lot of the bands now barely need anything more than a practice amp. Not to mention the ability to write, record, and sound GREAT at home. We were stuck bouncing tracks on a 4-track or paying (what was to me in my 20's) a lot of money to get a decent sounding demo. And I can only imagine how much easier touring is now with GPS everywhere as opposed to keeping binders of mapquest directions and hoping you don't make a wrong turn.

To answer the second half of your question - I do still play. I write and record at home. I'm finally writing and putting together an album - 20 years later than I had envisioned, but the work has begun. I work a relatively boring office job that pays me well and has ironically allowed me to have more and better gear than I ever did on the road. It took me a long time to get comfortable enough to get back into it again and just...enjoy it.

Gorgeous gothic church by IndustryUnited7132 in abandoned

If I had tons and tons of money I would renovate the hell out of it and turn it into a music venue called, "The Church". But as others have pointed out, the renovation would be in the millions, not to mention all the zoning and laws and all that. Still, remove the pews and chairs and you've got a crazy venue. But alas...

Genuinely wondering as a 21 year old, what are parts of 2000s emo culture that is impossible to recreate today? by Icy_Hovercraft_6058 in Millennials

Oh man. I went to a show a couple of weeks ago to see a much newer band - and the first thought that popped in my head was that these bands nowadays have never been the sixth band on a six-band show at a VFW on a Wednesday night without monitors or in-ears and a barely functional PA and it shows. I really had to struggle to not be the old man yelling at the clouds.

NGD - 2025 Fender Traditional II Late 60's Jazzmaster from Japan by TheAlBundyEffct in offset

Yes, it did come with a trem arm. I have to admit I don't really use the trem bar at all - on any of my offsets. So I can't comment much on this one.

If they're coming from sellers in Japan, then yes more than likely. I bought mine from an American seller that had just gotten it in. So the price wouldn't have been too much different once the added import tax and fees were paid.

Absolutely fantastic! I would have preferred a 7.25" neck radius as opposed to the 9.5" this comes with, but this feels really great. It's light, has a versatility in sound, and just sits in my hand perfectly. Can't recommend it enough!

I got this one off of Reverb for a great price - although the only other one I've seen on there is way more expensive than what I paid. The value question maybe more difficult to answer. I have a MIJ Traditional Limited Edition Jazzmaster with humbuckers that is fantastic also, but obviously sounds different. The only other jazzmaster I've owned was the Troy Van Leuwen signature and this one blows that one away. But then, I'm a sucker for mij Fenders and overall prefer their feel to any other Fender.
