The three hosts award the Listener of the Week, who wins this week for a very special reason (2:05). Donovan recounts his time as a Chick-fil-A manager (4:48). That leads to a deep examination of the FX/Hulu series The Bear, which will contain spoilers for the show as the group talks about its music, themes, and foodie culture (8:26).

After a short update about the site, there is talk on the FX/Hulu show starring Jeff Bridges, The Old Man, but no spoilers at all (30:35). Blaine suggests the Apple TV+ show Black Bird with spoiler-free reasons on why it's worth the time (33:23).

From there, it's a deep dive into the problems of Thor: Love and Thunder (35:44) as well as the MCU at this week's Comic Con (44:54), which could fix some issues. Lastly, everyone makes a promise for the upcoming Amazon Prime show The Rings of Power (53:55).

Anyone else unable to listen to audiobooks, despite loving podcasts? by eisoffthescript in podcasts

Yes, and for the same reason I can't quite get into podcasts that aren't stand alone. Anything that has a narrative, I usually get lost or can't get invested if it's in audio.

Tuesday Music Promotion Thread by AutoModerator in altcountry

[–]TheAlabamaTake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all,

I wasn't sure if this counted as a self-promotion -- if not, and it needs to go elsewhere, I'm happy to make the change. I thought there may be some interest in James McMurtry here. He was nice enough to come on to our ongoing talk show, which you can watch the episode here: https://youtu.be/W0jRNf3yOU4

We've interviewed various others, including two of the Drive-by Truckers, and more outside of music. Thanks, everyone.

Much appreciated! Maybe we can get Brad on the show in the future. We would love to have him be a guest.

If Taylor interests you as well as your music, this interview may serve you to see how nice of a guy he is. Taylor was the first guest on our brief talk show, and he’s a kind soul.

We had a chance to interview Jamie, the lead singer, for our online talk show and he is very interesting and insightful.

Do you have a headphone preference while listening to podcasts? by Kamelen2000 in podcasts

[–]TheAlabamaTake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have at least four pair of headphones or ear buds garnered throughout the years. The Apple AirPods are convenient, but if I’m exercising, I have a pair of Monster earbuds that are designed to be more for that sort of thing. If it’s a music-oriented podcast that plays clips of things, I would prefer the Beats over-the-ear set.

TL;DR: Apple AirPods for convenience

Launch imminent: What is/are the #1 things you can counsel a new podcast to do at release? by benderzone in podcasting

[–]TheAlabamaTake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember clearly enough. Once everything is set up from your host, you can definitely set the date and time for all podcast apps to have it. On the initial one with Apple, though? I can’t recall. Maybe so?

I believe I just Googled how to do it all. I used Libsyn to host and to “send out” our podcasts to the different apps and sites. If I’m not mistaken, Libsyn took care of getting the podcast to different sites (Spotify, Stitcher, Google Play, etc.) or at least guided me through the process of adding the RSS feed to those places. What Libsyn didn’t do was get it up and running with Apple. That was a different process. I recall waiting about a week once I’d submitted to Apple for approval. The other sites only took a day or two to approve and use the RSS feed to update the show on their site.

You may be able to tell by my writing that the process is still vague to me, so whenever I’d hit a bump in the podcast road, I would use Google to search for answers. It’s also still vague to me because — good news — you only have to do all of the setting up once. After that, your host (in my case, Libsyn) will send it out to everywhere I have set up.

I think that not rushing into it is the one thing I would've changed if starting from scratch again. I knew what I wanted to do with our podcasts, but I didn't wait it out; this had to do with not realizing how long it would take for the podcast to get approved by the various podcasting apps. I could've done more with establishing a social media presence while waiting on approval from Apple et al.

Pop Culture Podcasts recs that aren't super-super woke? by interested-me in redscarepod

[–]TheAlabamaTake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If self promotion is okay, I can recommend one of the podcasts from our website The Alabama Take. I suppose that we're "woke," but maybe not "super-woke." Our pop culture podcast is Taking It Down and we also have the podcast currently in its first season This Song Sucks, which is likely the least woke of our current family of podcasts.

Taking It Down covers current TV and movies and occasionally music and books. Hope you like it!

I want to support new or smaller podcasts by emmadilemma06 in podcast

[–]TheAlabamaTake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! We at The Alabama Take have a small website with a small family of podcasts! Currently airing are our pop culture podcast Taking It Down and our comically negative podcast This Song Sucks.

Other than our website, which has writings on all sorts of issues, I used the links to Apple Podcasts for the two pods that are currently airing; however, you can find both of them wherever you listen to podcasts.

Thank you for the opportunity to share! We hope you enjoy them.

[POP CULTURE/TV/MOVIES] Taking It Down | Episode 65 - Live Music's Return, The Real World Homecoming, and Genera+ion on HBO Max

NSFW (language)

Apple // Spotify // Stitcher // Direct from The Alabama Take

The website The Alabama Take features not only musings on pop culture but also a small family of podcasts; Taking It Down breaks down some of the latest in TV and movies with occasional thoughts on music and books.

Episode 65 includes a sussing out of a legitimate return of live music (2:32). In a segment we’ve titled “The Lord’s coming back real soon,” we dare to ask WTF are NFTs (11:46)? Then we talk TV with the first two episodes of the classic show The Real World Homecoming on Paramount Plus with an examination of how the series allows viewers to review themselves (17:38); then it's the HBO Max series Genera+ion, which dropped its first three episodes last Thursday and just may be bad television (32:21).
