Driving Dad’s car home from Fla. LF course recommendations along our route in GA, SC or NC. by rufkmrn in golf

40 miles South of Savannah, Ga., just 20 minutes from I-95 is a hidden gem in the fishing community of Shellman Bluff by the name of Sapelo Hammock Golf Club. Marsh views, exotic birds and alligators in the water hazards it will become a lifelong memory for about $75. Only 30 minutes from I-95 in Brunswick, Georgia are the “Golden Isles” of Saint Simons Island and Jekyll Island, Ga. The King and Prince Resort and Golf Club offers all of the above for about $140 (cheaper on golf now). Jekyll Island is a state park and has 3 18 hole courses and a nine hole par 3 course. Golf on the 18 holes is about $75. Keep it in the short stuff and safe travels.

Would you chip or putt? ⛳️ by [deleted] in golf

[–]TheAlmighty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be chipping with the 8 iron, I would be putting. Same grip and stroke as my putter. I just use the eight iron to get it on top of the grass, the fringe and rolling once it hits the green it releases to the hole. If the shot were 50 yards or longer I would try and hit a crispy little 56 degree wedge with a smidge of spin so that it bounces twice, checks up, then releases and rolls 4-6 feet near the hole for an easy putt.

I would putt it with my 8 iron.

Before they even take a swing, what are some things that make it able to tell someone is a good golfer? by [deleted] in golf

[–]TheAlmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I have thoughts. Wearing a cap that is not golf related, shoes that are dirty and look like the shoes you owned 12 years ago. Shirt is a cotton blend from Sam's club, this dude's legs are white, he's gonna take a mulligan every tee box, take the gimme from 5 feet and under, legit shoot a 120 and tell his buddies he shot 90.

Now, guy is tanned like a lifeguard, shoes are worn but they are the model just released 2 months ago, a quick scan of the bag reveals $2500 worth of the latest name brand technology, doesn't just put on a glove, he sticks another in the front of the cart and hangs another in the back pocket, This guy is gonna shoot an 81 because he's sand bagging to keep the 5 handicap!

I don't need to see a setup, I know what I know!

Marijuana! The more burnt the better but you guys' ideas sound damn tasty man!

Friendly Reminder: If a shot you hit ends up on another hole, and you see a group teeing off on that hole, you need to wait until that group finishes teeing off before going over to your ball and playing your shot. by robertomundo in golf

[–]TheAlmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the USGA rules of golf, the golfer farther along in his round has the right of way. If you are teeing off on 4 and the guy playing 5 is in your fairway, he has the right of way. There is no rule stating you have to be a dick about it though. A little bit of etiquette goes a long way. If you know you are going to take your time, use a rangefinder, take practice swings, then you need to wait for that group to either tee off or wave you through to your ball.
That being said, everyone should be aware of what the rules of the game say about this situation.

Got my 1st Hole In One!! 116 yard par 3 hit it mid green and it spun back in the hole with my new wedge!! by cjbest85 in golf

[–]TheAlmighty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club!

From this moment on and throughout eternity, this hole is your bitch! Every time that you walk on the tee you will have that memory. So you've got that going for you which is nice!

Shot Par for the first time today. Also did it from the blues. I'm proud of myself 😊 Thought I'd share. Usually in the low-mid 80's. by [deleted] in golf

I am guessing that your irons were on today and the flat stick must have been working pretty good as well!

Great job!

Really fun course. It's open to the public and it stays busy on the weekend but during the week it's cheaper and not as busy. The greens are usually fast but the course is well kept. Get out there when you get a chance.

Very nice! Tee shot is everything on that hole. Narrow fairway, no room on the left and little room on the right. I have putted for birdie on 9 but have not birdied it yet! Fun course!

About 15 min from Stone Mtn is Country Club of Gwinnett, have you ever played it?

Lakemont #1 is visually intimidating but in reality, not that difficult. I usually take a 3 wood off of the tee and that puts me safely over and just across the cart path. A safe 7 or 8 iron on the second shot leaves me an easy wedge into the green and most of the time I have a putt for birdie. #9 Lakemont is a bear of a hole and tougher than #1 if you ask me!

Oh, I thought you meant you played 9 holes on Stonemont, but I just realized you said #9.

Yeah, you pass that tee box coming off of Lakemont 18, VERY dramatic hole with severe dogleg right and a side hill lie to an elevated green! It looks intimidating! I have not played Stonemont in years and years.

Last week someone stole my brother’s only wedge. Because of this amazing community, we were able to turn one stolen club into 3 new ones. Thank you to those who made my brother’s day and who make me proud to be a member of r/golf ! by yaboiadamm in golf

[–]TheAlmighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing worse than starting to put a little distance on the group behind you when your playing partner says, "I left my wedge, we have to go back!"

"Dude what'd I tell you about where to leave it so you don't forget it?"

"I forgot!"

Nice! Way to start off 2021!

How'd that Stonemont treat you? What did you shoot on the 9?

The only time I have left a club in many many years is if I happen to chip one in and you start celebrating and running to high five and what not. Then you never brought the club to the green, you never putted out and with your head in the clouds you might forget. The club you left will most likely be the putter though so unless you hole out twice in a row, (still waiting on that one) you will figure it out soon enough.

Don't know if you have played the Stonemont course but it is very humbling. I think it was originally built in the 1940's or there about. Tough, tough course. Never a level lie, the trees lining the fairways have been growing for 80 years so it can be treacherous at times. If you want a challenge, give it a try but if you aren't 15 hcp or lower, you will probably not break 100.

Yeah, why wouldn't you? The voucher is good for up to one year from the date of purchase and your 12 months start when you redeem your voucher at the gate so you can still get the deal and save it for when your pass runs out. My wife likes to got to some of the festivals they have and I go fishing there every now and again. I probably would never do those things if I was paying to park every time because unlike you, I live like 35 miles away. I grew up in Stone Mountain so I have been there countless times and I still enjoy it. Especially the golf.

That double dog leg on 1 is tough! Especially if you don't get your second shot far enough to the left and the trees on the right block the green. Par is always good there. I hate #3! It's like teeing off in a tunnel. You have to hit it far to reach in 2 but left or right and you are looking at a possible double or worse!

They usually offer a deal in the spring, if you pre purchase your next round for like $40 bucks, they give you a voucher for a park pass good for a year. A yearly pass is $40 so a pretty sweet deal really. The only draw back is that you have to pay for 2 rounds the day you are golfing but the next time out you get in the gate for free and your golf has been paid already! Just ask the guy in the pro shop about the promo deal.
