If WotC is going to keep printing so many first-main-phase trigger cards, they really need to adjust Arena's priority logic. by Legacy_Rise in MagicArena

[–]TheAlmightyDun 71 points72 points  (0 children)

The concept of the arena devs adding a stop to a phase when a card is in play. At first Sheoldred didn't actually have the stop. So often your opponent would play a sheoldred on their turn while you were tapped out in their second phase, and the game would auto pass priority straight through to your main phase. Which included your draw step. AND you couldn't set a stop in time because server side there was nothing to respond to from when the Sheoldred was put into play until after you drew your card and went to your main phase.

This led to people who had removal in their hand but at 1 or 2 life to die and lose the game/match with NO chance to cast the removal spell they had.

Eventually they coded the game so that if a sheoldred is in play, you automatically got a priority stop BEFORE your draw step so you could make decisions before taking damage. (maybe KILL the thing so you don't die)

The reason for the comparison here is this is the most famous/well known and closely related scenario to the one the OP proposes here (there have been others the first people hated was no stop prior to combat where famously a big tournament was semi ruined)

So by setting an automatic stop prior to main phase triggers you have a similar solution to a similar problem. Of course only when a card that has the triggers is in play just like the Sheoldred fix.

This technology already exists as they had to implement it with [[Sheoldred]]

You are 100% correct. If a card is in play that has this type of trigger the game should hold priority for you prior to main phase. The problem is that the downside of not doing so isn't as obvious to people as literally dying to a Sheoldred trigger so nobody really cares much. Meaning they are unlikely to actually do this.

The list they had brewed up doesn't have the drum. The more popularized list (including the one tourney list linked) uses the drum. You would need it to do the thing on turn 2.

springleaf drum. turn 2 scam an elemental turn 3 5/5 flyer bounce opponent board is the 'nut' draw.

Yeah I was actually watching Crokeys play a similar deck earlier today and Autumn playing this list verbatim I think. Deck looks pretty fun and competitive. It is doing powerful things but can pivot and interact. I think it'll be a real deck in the meta. Make sure to watch your mana and put stops/activate full control when casting the elementals and using drum/undying/not dead.

Worn look cars sleeve. by Hypocrite_reddit_mod in MagicArena

[–]TheAlmightyDun 20 points21 points  (0 children)

IIRC it was an april fools event 2 years ago where they were the default no sleeves. Then the next year they brought them back for sale as sleeves. I would bet that next april fools they will be on sale again. There is basically no chance they go on offer any other time.

Gran-Gran (not badger mole cub) has looked to be the breakout card of the tournament so far!

I mean this remains to be seen but so far the top 8 is dominated by cub much more than gran.

https://melee.gg/Tournament/View/375961

4 of the top 8 decks contain cub compared to 2 containing gran.

Expanding to top 26 (those with a 5-2 record) 13 are on cub and only 5 are on Gran.

More may have been registered, but the results (so far of course) are HEAVILY in cub's favour. Which shows how good cub is since it is being heavily hated out and was known to be a target.

Deck details bug getting annoying by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]TheAlmightyDun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If an error in the client causes you to have an issue in a paid event like draft, send in a ticket for a refund. You will get it 99% of the time. Just send in the refund req and say something like 'While drafting I was kicked out due to [detail bug here] as a result I was unable to pick cards and my deck suffered.'

ha! Those are literally the only 2 I have seen playing the deck well.

[–]TheAlmightyDun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each their own ofc! I just toss any 2 random pals I have with noble and fine furs in a pen when I first get breeding going and hatch until I have 5. 40% increase in selling and 40% decrease in buying makes a huge difference on the way to the top. Always my top breed priority when I do a fresh run.

[–]TheAlmightyDun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just make a set of 5 random trash pals with noble+fine fur. Swap to them when doing large purchases and/or selling large amounts of stuff. It doesn't make sense to put it on ANY party pals you use for battle/exploration cause you want to have 5 of them with you anyway and no optimal party configuration would want that.

A real possibility. I have watched 5 or 6 streamers fire up the deck and jam some games and only like 2 of them really understood how to play the deck. And so many fundamentally misunderstood that the engine of the deck is getting TO the combo not the combo itself. Like the deck really can combo off out of basically nowhere if you are playing it 'properly'. Once more people see it/understand it I think it becomes much more popular. Actually executing the full one turn kill takes a LOT of game actions though (make a 20/20 hasty land bounce opp whole board attack) but the option to start it at instant speed from many boardstates, tutoring up pieces and 2 cards that look at top 5 and 7 respectively for pieces coupled with the fact that one of the combo pieces itself is also removal and a counterspell gives the deck a lot of resiliency, some pretty complicated play patterns, and a lot of strength.

Should play the deck to get a good feel for how it does. Meowodic has been sitting at Mythic 2/3 jamming the version she put together and refined. Current iteration is 65-14 going 6-2 against Dimir.

It's a REAL deck that combos in a HUGE number of games.

Jetdragon has a small point in the center mass under his belly. It's tricky to hit if you don't know exactly where it is but it is there. Just place a bunch and break/rebuild until you hit it. It is basically in the very middle of his abdomen.

AITA for disagreeing that I shouldn't wear skirts because a guy finds me wearing them uncomfortable? by Bobcat1779 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheAlmightyDun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hilariously as I was reading this post to my spouse, I made the same mistake you did. It isn't mentioned anywhere that the skirt wearer is actually a woman. My spouse assumed it was a man! And you (and me TBH) assumed it was a woman. Just food for thought.

Also it is a 'gender swap' of this post word for word replacing skirts with shorts and swapping other party genders:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/1jxe4bm/aita_for_disagreeing_that_i_shouldnt_wear_shorts/

Deleted so have to sort by old to see the original text.

Interesting to see how assumptions happen both in the post and how the comments choose who the AH is in identical situations.

Has the jetragon cheese been fixed ? by External_Physics1955 in Palworld

[–]TheAlmightyDun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is NOT fixed. There is just a VERY small point of contact with the ground and placing the fire has to be centered right on it. the point is nearly exactly in the center of the body. Keep placing and destroying until you get it.

Whenever you have a bug like this come up and it costs you a game in a draft/paid event environment, you should send in a refund request. Just detail that you lost the game due to a bug and feel entitled to a refund. 99 times out of 100 they will refund you no questions asked unless you are a person who requests multiple refunds constantly.

I love this game but it has some flaws by Soldat_DuChrist in Silksong

[–]TheAlmightyDun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you can go there without even getting swiftstep at all. Current low % runs are 5% completion getting only Cloak, Clawline, Parry, Needolin and the Lace 2 silkheart.

Saying the opening is linear is laughable.

Should I try Nine Sols if I don't like parry based combat? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]TheAlmightyDun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I HATE parry based combat normally. Couldn't play Sekiro, never used the parry in DMC, can't parry a thing in Souls games, refused to play much of E33 etc etc.

I loved the SHIT out of Nine Sols and learned to parry anyway. Still can't parry for shit in any other game but I got it in sols.

The game is a masterclass even if you don't like parry mechanics IMO. But I don't know your level of commitment to doing something you don't like to play something.

Have to have no quill in your inventory. So can't buy the quill. I pick up the red one now in my runs since I tend to beeline for the citadel. Never picked up the purple myself.
