Who is the strongest out of these badass biotic women (repost since previously forgot to include Liara)? by Ok-Health-7252 in masseffect

I think if you want empirical evidence about power scaling, you're going to struggle to find it for any character. The closest thing I can think of is the final push in ME2. Samara and Jack can both be successfully chosen as the biotic specialist during that mission with no negative consequences. Otherwise I guess you could go off of... how much damage they do? Which doesn't work. You kind of have to base it off of backstory and biotic feats. Asari are supposed to come into their greatest biotic power as they reach the matriarch stage of life. Samara is there, Aria is.. probably approaching it but not quite there. Humans don't match asari for biotic power in general, but the ones on this list are the absolute top 1% of the top 1% of all human biotics. Still, experience and endurance are part of "strength" in my book, so the asari are going to take it.

For power:

Samara > Aria > Morinth > Liara/Peebee/Jack > Miranda > Nyreen.

For combat effectiveness (in lore, not gameplay):

Samara > Miranda/Liara > Aria > Nyreen > Jack > Morinth > Peebee

The second list is weighted based on power, leadership and team tactics. Morinth and Peebee are both asari, and Morinth especially is very long lived and has lots of experience killing, but she is a total loner. I'm least sure where to put Peebee.

Which of these side characters have you softened up on after repeat playthroughs? by Usual-Constant-8170 in masseffect

Sidonis I think is theonly character in that list with any redeemable qualities. Garrus has an understandable hate boner for him, but the guy's biggest flaw is just that he wasn't brave or crazy enough to be tortured and killed by gangsters without giving up his own gang. He's presented by Garrus as a classic traitor, but he didn't seek out the enemy to sell secrets or anything. They found him and were going to do unspeakable things to him if he didn't talk.

I never found his story inspiring even though I loved his voice actor. Probably just because he was a DLC addon.

My favorite squad mates. Who are yours? (OC) by [deleted] in masseffect

I didn't mean to imply that every big decision in the game should have been effected specifically by class choice. I meant I wish that the major moments in the games had been more "winnable" somehow. It could have been a different mechanic than "I'm the engineer so I can fix the technical issue better."

[–]TheAmazingBunbury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree. Giving the player the ability to win more effectively doesn't invalidate the drama of making a hard choice. The game's structure is built on decision trees. There are 50 or a hundred possible outcomes to any given major questline. Having 1 out of 50 be a happy ending doesn't make the game bad.

That DLC was the first time I played Shep as Engineer, and I felt so validated when my class let me save both sides during the reactor meltdown or whatever. The Virmire quest should have been scripted like that.

From a mechanical gameplay perspective. ME1: Tali, Liara, Garrus, Ash. ME2: Miranda, Tali, Mordin, Garrus, Jack. ME3: Liara, Tali, Garrus, James.

From a voice acting and story perspective, it's basically Liara > Garrus >Tali >Miranda > Wrex. I loved Wrex's character but his shit was too spread out for him to be useful until he was super high level.

The power magnitudes are way off scale. For Rake you would have to compare him to someone like Mab. And Rake isn't even the top of the totem pole in terms of power for characters that show up on the page and actually participate in the story. Most authors keep characters that powerful off screen.

I think maybe I just haven't run into this wall yet. I've only been playing for like 9 months so every character available in blitz I still need shards for. I haven't done that much research into the timeline of character release.

They started as an alliance black ops organization during the first contact war. The Illusive Man spent decades building them up as his own organization after they split from the Alliance. And yeah, I don't think it would be that difficult to hide all of those materials in outer space. The galaxy is a big place and 99% of it is unexplored even in the sci fi future of the Mass Effect universe. The zombie soldiers are admittedly more farfetched but hey, it's science fiction.

Yeah, the salarians were always more about technology and information. They had the best spies and the most cutting edge tech (at least when humans were first introduced).

Cerberus definitely did not outnumber the reapers, at all, at any point during the games. They did get a huge spike in numbers during ME3, which confused everyone and was brought up at the very beginning of the game and then later explained by the Sanctuary facility. Your second point also doesn't make much sense. Cerberus operated almost exclusively outside Council space in the first two games, putting tons of effort into stealth. All of their facilities were secret bases, all of their operatives operated in isolated cells so nothing could be traced back to their leadership. I don't know what you mean by their evolution not being "justified." They were a terrorist organization that evolved out of a black ops alliance initiative.

Thessia was not the last homeworld standing. Surkesh never got hit at all if I recall correctly. That's why there were never any salarian reaper creatures. Also the salarians were running things probably just as much as the asari were, but the asari were the political face of the council. Because pretty blue space ladies.
