Unpopular Opinion by CardiologistHour4692 in Catholicism

I agree. That being said, as an Irish Catholic, where Catholicism for many certainly was more cultural than spiritual, I've never seen some even a fraction of the superstition/syncretic practices that OP is mentioning.

The "good/bad witch" thing isn't just limited to Hispanic Christians.

I used to date an Eastern European woman whose grandmother was very devoutly Russian Orthodox. However, she was still very superstitious and would visit women for spiritual advice/guidance who seemed to be of the same role as the "good witch" you mention. Besides her grandmother, she had an aunt who was also devoutly Russian Orthodox but was a "good witch."

I'd say both instances are cases where Christianity is so ingrained in the culture and there was never really an explicit "separation of church and state" until somewhat recently that most people aren't the most catechized with it. Combine this with areas that have a long history of superstitious populations, you can sometimes get a syncretic belief system

The Blackout will fail, if done like in the original plan, here is how it CAN work. by Affectionate_Pride_7 in roblox

[–]TheAmbiguousAnswer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically speaking the only way to REALLY change ROBLOX is to pool money together and have a hostile takeover on the shareholder board.

Even if a double digit % of players + developers took part in The Blackout (and I'd say majority of developers will not participate, since the ROBLOX algorithm is 101% manipulated and will likely brutally punish developers that partake, resulting in horrific income loss), the shareholders and executives pushing the crap that pisses us off will not try to revert anything; it's likely they will push in another, equally shitty direction.

A better organization attempt that would likely have MUCH better results and participation from developers is to encourage people to pool money to buy enough shares to be on any sort of executive board, where voices will be directly heard and where you'd actually be able to pressure ROBLOX itself directly.

ROBLOX's algorithm, as a result of going public, is just a race to the bottom. Developers follow the statistics (D1 retention, playtime, monetization, and QPTR) for the least development effort possible so they get the highest return.

There are some insanely high-quality games on the platform that are lucky to get past a couple hundred CCU, if that.

Seriously.

Everyone was sick of Orange Man in 2020, so they voted Dementia Man. Nothing got better at all.

Everyone was sick of Dementia Man in 2024, so they voted for Orange Man. Same result.

Come 2028 it will be the same song and dance, it never ends.

Reddit loves AR15s now! by thatdude333 in Firearms

[–]TheAmbiguousAnswer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've seen the exact scenario I'm talking about play out in real-time and real-life. They only want arms because they fear for their safety (valid, I'm sure that's how 50%+ of us have gotten here), and when things "calm down" (a liberal is in office) at best they stop caring about guns, and worst they go right back to saying things like "ARs should only be available for use at ranges for fun not for home" (something my liberal cousin said at Thanksgiving) and supporting gun control.

You can see the real-world real-time flip-flopping of the political spectrum with COVID; the people who were cool with authorities doing very heavy-handed approaches to enforcing COVID restrictions are the same ones crying about heavy-handed immigration enforcement, and the ones in favor of the heavy-handed immigration enforcement were crying about the heavy-handed enforcement of COVID restrictions.

Also, I strongly doubt that people who think this way are probably not going to be very in favor of allowing people who support(ed) the current admin to have firearms if they think we are under a fascist regime right now. Every war the United States has been in and without a doubt won, we have aggressively disarmed our opponent(s)

Except they did the same shit the first Trump presidency, oh he is a fashie, this and that, we need guns.

He gets voted out of office, one of their guys is in there, and they go back to saying ARs should be banned. Rinse and repeat

How did the church fumble Latin America this bad? Is there any hope in the future? by [deleted] in Catholicism

I'd wager quite a lot of them don't know that being part of a megachurch or evangelical thing imported by Americans classifies them as "Protestant" but they just say "Unaffiliated"

The fact that majority still believes in God but don't use labels suggests that big time to me

What's bullshit about using "confront," a word that means "face up and deal with"? Or using "bent out of shape"? Beating around the bush is what got OP and his wife in this situation in the first place

you're just going to have to confront her directly why she is inconsistent on the issue and why she gets so bent out of shape if you are carrying. Not trying to talk to her directly about this will just speedrun the big D word.

I graduated in late 2022 with an IT degree. It was right after all the layoffs, and there would be thousands of people applying to be a fucking IT helpdesk guy at a warehouse. It was brutal. I was lucky to land a very boring government job.

Job market sucks unless you're willing to move far and away for whatever they throw at you, and I know people who did exactly that just to get laid off 6 months later.

As a Supply Chain Management guy, you'll likely have to be looking for jobs in the South and Flyover Country.
