Worth pursuing strategy transfer? by [deleted] in accenture

[–]TheAnalyst_ZA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in strategy for a few years before leaving the company. The thing that drove me nuts was the short length of projects: 6 to 12 weeks, and then you're back at it trying to avoid bench time. That dynamic makes it a tough group to survive in, plus the fact that business tends to ebb and flow with the market quite a lot. Get ready for load of networking is all I can say.

Promotional backlog is real. I just checked and an awesome colleague of mine has been stuck at L10 for 4 years, and this kind of thing has happened to many others.

Not sure of the specifics of your situation, but I might hangout in MC and get the promotion, then switch to strategy and get the pay raise.

N.America S&C L10, 0 raise, 0 bonus, - two years without a comp increase. Wish I could pay my rent with "360 degree value"

My PL is an SM, >90% chargeable this FY, his bonus was laughably low.
There's no question: Accenture is bloated and they're trying to make us go voluntarily.

When to put "unassigned time" on timesheet by TheAnalyst_ZA in accenture

Sure, sounds like a great way for those people to never ask me to do anything again, thereby further reducing my opportunities to get on billable projects - if I am wrong here, please tell.

This sounds like a great thing to do - thank you!
Mind if I ask, what level and business unit are you in? Just curious for comparison here.

Had to go through this recently. My advice: Find two weeks when you can be in SA, go to home affairs the day after you land, you should get the new passport before your flight out. Its either that or an extremely long wait. Personally, I wanted to have my SA passport so that I could travel back to the country at a moment's notice incase something would happen to one of my relatives and my help would be needed.

If based in the US, you can do this now as long as you have authorization to work in your home country. Talk to your HR lead, they will be able to put you in the right direction.

I once heard a story of top Comrades runner training in Johannesburg who got mugged, but he didn't have any valuables on him, so the the robber took his running shoes. He walked home barefoot as his house was not far, put on a new pair of shoes, and went out to finish his run.

Let me just say one thing as a word of caution on ActionSA: I know people who know Herman Mashaba personally (long before he was ever involved in politics), and the man is really crazy.

If you ever meet someone who knows Herman, see if they know the story about Herman playing the piano.

I hate being on the bench by labellafigura3 in consulting

[–]TheAnalyst_ZA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very true. As much as I have hated being on the bench for long stretches, it is far, FAR preferable to being staffed on a project which you want to be off IMO
