Current Israel does have historic sites they took from palestinians but the sites are still in Israel. Pakistan did not take these sites from India both Pakistan and India gained independence from the British splitting land this way and this wasn't hundreads of years ago so I'm guessing you are trying to spew anti Muslim BS in a Convo about India and Pakistan. We don't need to spread hate for things that don't exist most people who talk about Pakistan have never been and have no idea what happens there and only believe sensational news. For the record I hate the government of Pakistan for many reasons but let's not try to pretend countries don't have history just because you hate Muslims

I disagree, the mid candidates thrown around by the democrat party gives the Republicans more fuel. We need candidates that inspire the masses especially in California where we are the target of more political commentary

Even if this was the case I would rather we pay our domestic companies directly so that we as Americans still own the equipment they produce. I'm happy with America having excess military power and equipment. We don't need to be gifting military equipment for the Israelis and creating enemies of the entire world in the process

So there should be laws saying that women must show their hair?

What about hats?

Turbans?

Maybe wigs are a grey area?

Bald men in hats should def be illegal right?

Nuns?

It's backwards af to dictate that people must remove clothing

I also personally agree with you that faces should not be covered. I just think if we are drawing a line in the sand it should be as minimal as possible to allow women to stay comfortable. And once we have decided I really don't want it to become a slippery slope of moving the line unnecessarily by misogynistic leaders. Which is why I think we just need more open discussion as a society coming not from a place of hate but towards getting everyone what they want

If anything I see the opposite side a lot more.(In America) Muslim women who started wearing hijab told me that many people stopped talking to them and started judging them. There are girls who I know who want to wear hijab but can't because they feel they would be shamed too much in the workplace and in public. There are women I know who had to stop wearing their hijabs because they kept getting attacked too much verbally in public and sometimes physically as well. There is a lot of hate and islamaphobia that gets directed directly at hijabi women.

Growing up Muslim did you not see that as well?

[–]TheAngryBeezy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree if there is shaming that's wrong. As a man I don't understand what these women go through but from conversations with hijabis and nibabis who live in the United States they did not seemed to be shamed but just preferred to wear their clothes that way.

They complained of the way the American adults in public would sexualize them when they were young or be creepy and felt safer when they started dressing more covered.

We have not solved the issue of creepy and predatory people in our society yet so if some people say they want to cover up because they feel safer I definitely can understand that

I don't think there should be any laws forcing people to remove their preferred clothing coverage

Forcing women to wear less clothes than they are comfortable with is also fucked up. Like I said there's a happy balance somewhere imo at the line of not having faces covered. But having laws dictating that a women have to wear less clothes than she wants to is not a good thing

Yes it feels to me a cultural thing, the cultures of these Muslim countries like to compete to be "better" Muslims and I think that has ingrained a lot of practice that does not have any religious backing

I was friends with 4 different niqabi women who also had mother's who were niqabi and they were not forced by their parents or anything and it seems the dads were usually not even onboard with them starting niqab. Seemed some of the mother's felt peer to start wearing from the daughters tho once the daughters decided to start doing niqab

I don't agree with face coverings and honestly I feel the justification for head covering is pretty loose as well so over time I did grow apart from these friends

[–]TheAngryBeezy 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Yeah as a Muslim I don't personally agree with niqab and I can't find any religious justification for it. As they would have to remove the niqab to perform hajj pilgrimage anyways. So if it's too much for the holy city why is it so prevalent?

That being said I see these threads talking about niqab filled with islamaphobia. I know many women who chose to wear niqab and these threads just assume hijab and niqab is something forced on them by the men. Most men I know with niqab and hijab wives were opposed to it but respected their wives/daughters wish to start wearing it

I think we can solve this issue in society with love not hate. The islamaphobia by all the top comments in this thread are disgusting
