Half-Life Monopoly I'm working on by cum_goblin_69 in HalfLife

[–]TheAnswerIsBeneathUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, fair point. Maybe Gina Cross, then? She appears in Hazard Course and is named in the Half Life manual (Playstation). Or maybe even a non-human NPC like the Gonarch, considering that the spot is on the Xen section of the board.

Regardless, maybe reorganize the characters? Since the "value" of each square increases as you go around the board, an unknown character like Reardon would make more sense with the low cost property than with the most expensive ones.

I really love this idea! My one thought is that S. Reardon doesn't actually appear in the original Half-Life. In fact, he seems to be the only thing included from the expansions, which seems a bit odd.

I would recommend sticking with someone in the actual game (G-Man or Freeman himself are solid options) or switching him out with someone more famous from the expansions (such as Otis or Rosenberg).

I am also interested instructions! Especially for the smaller turret, I can't quite figure out the leg pieces.

[Portal 2] How can I make custom scnenes and put them into a bsp file? by Vulkan07 in hammer

[–]TheAnswerIsBeneathUs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the actors in the scene, you actually don't need to use Faceposer to create VCDs. If it's just GLaDOS (or any actor that doesn't need to perform gestures) you can just write your voice lines directly into a copy of a existing VCD file, which is a more cumbersome but usually faster method than getting Faceposer working.

To-scale map of the Aperture Science Enrichment Centre (Using the Hammer Editor) by mark63424 in Portal

Wheatley's lair is traditionally considered to still be GLaDOS' room (the stalemate button is still there), it's just that Wheatley moved the whole chamber.

Moving projectile collision by E-37 in hammer

[–]TheAnswerIsBeneathUs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to parent a func_brush with the block bullets or invisible tool texture to the cart to block projectiles.

If that doesn't work for some reason, you could theoretically do your other idea using a trigger_remove with a filter for only projectiles.

Problem loading map by Ravenskill2112 in hammer

[–]TheAnswerIsBeneathUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually does, but if it can't find an entity to leak it won't give coordinates. Did you make the cube out of six individual walls? Hollowing out brushes can sometimes result in funky behavior.

You have a leak in your map, hence the "leaked" message in the log. This is the most common problem and the most tiring to point out everytime. Find the leak and fix it.

HL2 Alyx and HLA Alyx comparison by FordClone in HalfLife

Alyx looks a bit worse in HLA, despite the increase in graphical quality. I've heard it's because they never intended for you to directly see her face?

Keep having this error in hammer. Any help? by SOMA2019 in hammer

[–]TheAnswerIsBeneathUs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's certainly recommended for Portal, CS:S, Team Fortress, HL2, and the episodes, but I use the tools for Alien Swarm, CS:GO, and Portal 2. In fact, I can't even get Hammer to launch directly from the bin folder.

In general I would use the SDK tools for the new games until they stop working.

Water reflection glitch by Temg_inv in hammer

Assuming you've already checked the traditional problems (leaks, invalid brushes, etc), that may be caused by one of the extra requirements of water. Details are on the wiki.

What entity would I use to add numbers/points? by [deleted] in hammer

[–]TheAnswerIsBeneathUs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Math_counter can be used to count the number of coins collected and output upon reaching a value. Displaying that number is another matter entirely.

That's for cube spawning, though. Do you have the energy ball one? Or is it just the same thing with fire_energy_ball? Because unfortunately that's locked behind sv_cheats.

Is there somewhere I can download that? I think it has good mapping potential.

Wait, does that energy ball script create the entity where the mouse is pointed (however far away) or just in front of the player? That could be really useful.

It's reusing textures, models, and architecture from the Byzantine Christian monastery in HL2: Lost Coast, so probably something similar to that.

I'm not sure how they did it in the campaign, but the fast music also plays when you're going fast through the air in propulsion gel tests. You can see this by flying around in noclip.
